ADC postpones presidential campaign flag-off

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has postponed its presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto State amid allegations that hotels were being pressured to deny accommodation to party delegates.

The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 31, will now take place on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The Director-General of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council in Sokoto State, Bello Aliyu Goronyo, announced the postponement in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Goronyo attributed the decision to planning and coordination considerations, saying the adjustment was necessary to ensure the successful conduct of the event.

The development comes amid allegations by the ADC that the Sokoto State Government had directed hotel operators to deny accommodation to delegates expected to attend the campaign.

The party also claimed that some delegates who had already secured accommodation were asked to leave their hotels.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and the campaign council did not explicitly link the postponement to the accommodation dispute.

Goronyo apologised to party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of the public for any inconvenience caused by the change.

He urged those concerned to take note of the new date and thanked them for their continued support.

The campaign flag-off is expected to attract the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other party leaders as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
