Mighty Wanderers lead TNM Super League after victory over Songwe Border United

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers have climbed to the summit of the TNM Super League table following a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Songwe Border United on Wednesday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Nomads displayed dominance from the onset, creating multiple chances but struggled to find the back of the net in the first half.

Striker Muhammad Sulumba missed two early opportunities, while Isaac Kaliati saw several of his set pieces and corners easily dealt with by the Songwe defense.

Despite their control of possession, Wanderers went into the break goalless, frustrated by the resilience of Songwe’s backline and the sharp reflexes of goalkeeper Bernard Mwangosi, who made several key saves to keep his side in the game.

In the second half, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira made tactical substitutions, bringing in Clement Nyondo, Promise Kamwendo and Stanley Sanudi to inject fresh energy into the attack. The changes soon paid dividends.

After continuous pressure, the breakthrough came in the 86th minute when substitute Clement Nyondo capitalized on a brilliant assist from Masiye Manda to slot home the opener, sending the home fans into jubilation.

Songwe tried to respond in the closing stages, but their efforts were neutralized by a composed Wanderers defense led by man-of-the-match Dan Kudoto.

Deep into added time, Cameroonian forward Thierry Tanjong Sama sealed the victory with a well-taken goal, making it 2-0 and ensuring that the Blantyre giants claimed all three points.

Speaking after the match, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira praised his players for their determination and fighting spirit.

“The boys gave their all today. It wasn’t an easy game but their discipline and commitment made the difference,” he said.

Songwe Border United interim coach Edwin Kaonga acknowledged the defeat, saying fatigue played a role in his team’s performance.

“We fought hard but towards the end, my players were tired, and Wanderers took advantage. We’re not out of the race yet we’ll keep pushing until the final day,” Kaonga said.

The result sees Mighty Wanderers sitting comfortably on top of the TNM Super League table with 51 points from 21 matches, remaining the only unbeaten team in the 2025 season.

The defeated MCP Peter Dimba, didn’t he study the parliamentary numbers?

Peter Dimba was the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate for the position of Speaker and he is a graduate from the then Malawi Polytechnic.

From the member of parliament who moved the motion for his speakership, Dimba holds a master’s degree in accounting from a reputable academic institution.

Additionally , Dimba has been the chair of Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament for three parliamentary cohorts before he was appointed to the position of a cabinet minister.

Interestingly, Dimba is unanimously known to be level headed, calm, composed, mature, thoughtful and calculative.

On the other hand, the current speaker of the National Assembly, Sameer Suleman was allegedly kicked out of Football Association of Malawi because he did not have a Malawi School Certificate of Education.

Moreover, critics surmise that he has questionable and unpredictable character and behaviour.

It still remains unearthed if this unpredictability of his behavior contributed to the victory of his speakership.

In a dramatic lane of events, Suleman was usually suspended from parliament because of his unbecoming behavior, which includes fighting with other legislators in the Chamber in front of cameras.

It is exciting that today marks a historic event when the former speaker of the National Assembly, Gotani Hara, had a cordial handshake with Sameer signifying a commute of congratulatory message.

The truth of the matter is that numbers matter a lot in the National Assembly.

Being all elected as members of parliamentary, strategising separated Suleiman from Dimba.

On the other front, it is being debated that DPP is a system as it featured 3 DPP candidates for the position of a speaker with Suleiman emerging as a victor and others getting a zero vote.

It is against this background that Kondwani Nankhumwa was disqualified from the race because he had submitted nomination papers late and contrary to parliamentary orders, his submission indicated that he was the fifth in terms of chronogical time.

It must be emphasised that parliamentary orders demand that there should be a maximum of 4 contestants for the position of a speaker.

Will Suleiman be an impartial and progressive speaker? Only time will tell.

Tanzania declares nationwide curfew amid election unrest

….Police enforce 6 PM curfew as tensions rise across the country during a contentious election marked by protests and public anxiety.

DODOMA-(MaraviPost)-Tanzania’s police authorities have announced the imposition of a nationwide curfew beginning at 6 PM following reports of growing tension and public unrest during the ongoing election.

The move comes amid mounting fears of violence and instability as citizens cast their votes in a highly charged political atmosphere.

Security forces have been deployed across major cities, including Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Arusha, to enforce the curfew and prevent large gatherings.

Police officials stated that the decision was made to protect lives and property as election-related incidents began to escalate in several regions.

The curfew order applies to all citizens, with exceptions made for essential workers, emergency services, and accredited election observers.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers as the situation continues to develop.

Reports from local media suggest that protests erupted in certain districts after allegations of voting irregularities and the detention of opposition supporters.

Observers have noted a growing sense of frustration among voters who claim that the electoral process has not been free or transparent.

The ruling government, however, insists that the elections are being conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law.

The curfew is expected to remain in place until further notice, depending on the security assessment of the police and electoral authorities.

Human rights organizations have expressed concern over the measure, warning that such restrictions could be used to suppress dissent and limit freedom of movement.

Regional observers from the African Union and the East African Community are closely monitoring the situation as counting begins in several polling centers.

The unfolding events mark one of the most tense election days in Tanzania’s recent history, reflecting deep divisions and uncertainty about the country’s political direction.

For now, Tanzanians are being urged to stay indoors, follow official updates, and avoid any actions that could inflame tensions during this critical period.

Real Madrid chooses calm over controversy after Vinícius outburst in El Clásico

MADRID-(MaraviPost)-Real Madrid has decided not to take disciplinary action against forward Vinícius Júnior following his emotional reaction to being substituted during Sunday’s tense El Clásico clash against Barcelona.

The 24-year-old Brazilian, known for his passion and fiery personality, was visibly upset when coach Xabi Alonso replaced him with Rodrygo in the 72nd minute.

At the time, the match was finely balanced at 1-1 before Real Madrid clinched a dramatic 2-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Cameras captured Vinícius storming down the tunnel after being taken off, only to return to the bench later and become involved in heated exchanges with Barcelona players at full-time an incident that earned him a yellow card.

Despite the outburst, Madrid’s top brass have reportedly opted for leniency, viewing the episode as a moment of frustration rather than outright insubordination.

The club believes that Vinícius’ competitive spirit often drives his intensity on the pitch and should not be confused with disrespect.

However, the incident has slightly strained relations between Alonso and Vinícius.

The pair are expected to hold a private meeting when the squad returns to training on Wednesday to clear the air and reaffirm mutual respect.

Insiders close to the club suggest that while President Florentino Pérez and the board do not intend to fine or suspend Vinícius, Alonso retains full authority over team decisions meaning future lineups will depend entirely on performance and attitude.

The situation has sparked debate among Madrid fans and pundits, some defending Vinícius’ passion as a sign of his winning mentality, while others argue he must show greater maturity as one of the team’s key figures.

Alonso, meanwhile, is said to value the winger’s energy and leadership but expects him to handle emotional moments with more discipline.

Madrid’s victory over Barcelona consolidated their lead in LaLiga but the aftermath of the match has reminded many that success at the highest level requires not just talent but also composure and unity within the dressing room.
