’A Great Soldier’, Saraki Mourns Gen Abdullahi

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has described the late Major General Abdullahi Mohammed, who died early this morning (October 5, 2025), as a great soldier and administrator.

Saraki in a statement from his Media Office in Abuja noted that General Mohammed served the country both in the military and the democratic sphere, even though he was not a politician.

‘Our country has missed a good soldier, administrator, intelligence officer, and patriot. He was a man whose skill and experience would have been useful to us at this critical period when the country is facing a security crisis. I commiserate with all Nigerians, the people of Kwara State, and the good people of Ilorin emirate on the death of this eminent son.

‘May Allah (SWT) admit him into aljannah Firdaus and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.’, Saraki stated.

Mohammed, a retired Major-General, who was the former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, died at about 1:00am, on Wednesday.

The late senior military officer, who was popularly known as Atoto, was born in Ilorin, Kwara State, in 1939.

He attended the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in the United Kingdom, and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army in 1958.

Mohammed rose through the ranks to become Director of Military Intelligence and played a notable role in the 1975 coup that ousted General Yakubu Gowon and brought Murtala Mohammed to power.

Following the change of government, he was appointed Governor of Benue-Plateau State, a position he held from July 1975 to March 1976.

In March 1976, under General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military administration, he was appointed Director-General of the National Security Organisation (NSO), the forerunner of the present Department of State Services (DSS), a post he held until 1979.

After his retirement from the army that same year, he ventured into private business, becoming Managing Director of Atoto Press Limited in Ilorin.

In 1998, the late General was recalled to public service when he was appointed National Security Adviser by then Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, a role he held until May 1999.

At the return of civilian rule, he was appointed Chief of Staff to President Olusegun Obasanjo, a position he retained under President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua until his resignation in June 2008.

Throughout his career, he was regarded as a disciplined officer, a trusted aide, and a silent power broker in Nigeria’s political and security landscape.

TYB Golf Club Inducts 109 New Members

The TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club (TYBIGRCC) has inducted 109 new members into its growing golfing community during a colourful ceremony in Abuja, further cementing its reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing golf clubs.

Speaking during the event, Club Captain, Maj.-Gen. Samson Jiya (rtd), said the ceremony was organised to help new members integrate into TYB’s culture of excellence, leadership, and camaraderie.

‘TYB is fast becoming the pride of Nigerian golf. We hosted this kitty to honour and educate our new members,’ he said.

He explained that golf at TYB extends beyond sport, serving as a medium for mentorship and personal growth.

‘Golf is not just a sport here. It is a platform for mentorship, discipline and social cohesion. We teach ethics, etiquette and what it means to be part of this family,’ he added.

Jiya revealed that with the latest induction, the club’s membership has surpassed 600 active golfers, with interest continuing to grow nationwide.

‘This event is special to us because we are building not just a club, but a community of leaders and gentlemen,’ he said.

The induction ceremony featured oath-taking, presentation of induction packages, a clubhouse tour, cocktail reception, and a putting competition coordinated by the club’s resident professional.

Francis Okosun, a member of the club’s Membership Committee, said the induction process was rigorous, ensuring that only individuals who align with TYB’s values of integrity and service were admitted.

‘We want members who will contribute positively, not just to the club but also to society through the values we uphold here,’ he said.

Veteran golfer Maj.-Gen. Godwin Umelo (rtd) urged the new members to embody the club’s values.

‘At TYB, we practise equality. Once on the tee-box, everyone is equal,’ he said. ‘We expect our members to be ambassadors of TYB and the military. Discipline and decorum are key.’

Vice Captain Ali Peters added that the growing turnout reflects TYB’s increasing prominence.

‘We started humbly, but now top players and elite Nigerians are flocking here. This turnout proves that TYB is the place to be,’ he said.

Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval For N1.15trn Loan

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sought the approval of the Senate to borrow N1.15 trillion from the domestic debt market to finance the deficit in the 2025 national budget.

The request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary session.

In the letter, President Tinubu explained that the proposed borrowing is necessary to bridge the funding gap in the 2025 Appropriation Act and to ensure the smooth implementation of key government programmes and projects.

He noted that the borrowing plan is part of the administration’s fiscal strategy to sustain economic growth, create jobs, and deliver on the government’s developmental priorities.

Akpabio referred the presidential request to the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt for further legislative consideration.

The committee has been directed to examine the proposal and submit its report to the Senate within one week.

Antetokounmpo Beats Buzzer As Bucks Edge Out Pacers

Giannis Antetokounmpo beat the buzzer to give the Milwaukee Bucks a dramatic 117-115 victory over Indiana Pacers in the NBA.

With the scores level heading into the final few seconds of the Central Division game, the 30-year-old pivoted to avoid a double block before he floated in a jumper.

It was the fifth occasion the Greek-Nigerian has produced a game-winning shot in the last five seconds of a game, and the second buzzer-beater of his career.

‘You can live if you miss. You cannot live if you don’t shoot it,’ said Antetokounmpo, who scored a game-high 33 points.

‘People don’t remember the time you miss, they remember all the times you make, so I’m happy about that.’

Gov Yusuf Hails Army For Crushing Bandits In Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for the swift response to recent attacks in parts of the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf made the commendation while receiving the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Muhammad Wase, at the Government House, Kano.

General Wase, who was in the state to assess security situation in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Governments, recalled with emotion his early days at the Kano Government House, where his late father, Colonel Muhammad Abdullahi Wase, served as Military Sole Administrator in 1994.

‘I am here on a familiarity visit. Since assuming command at 1 Division, I have visited the scenes of recent attacks to commend our gallant officers,’ the GOC said.

Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the military for their dedication and also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing competent service chiefs committed to national security.

He announced the donation of 10 Hilux trucks and 60 motorcycles to the Joint Task Force operating in the affected areas and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in combating banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling.

Daily Trust had reported how 19 bandits were crushed in Shanono.

Healthcare Services Grounded As Doctors’ Strike Enters Day 5

Healthcare services in the Federal Capital Territory have been crippled as the strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) entered its fifth day on Tuesday.

NARD President, Dr. Muhammad Suleiman, reaffirmed in a message to Daily Trust that the strike would continue until all 19 outstanding demands are addressed.

These include unpaid arrears, the 25/35 percent CONMESS salary review, promotion and upgrade arrears, and accoutrement allowances-some pending for over five years.

A visit to major hospitals in Abuja revealed near-empty consulting rooms and wards, with only a few nurses and consultants attending to patients.

At Wuse and Asokoro District Hospitals, patients waited for hours without seeing doctors, while others were turned back.

Ruth Onyema, whose son was suffering from malaria, said, ‘We’ve been here since morning, but no doctor is around. I can’t afford a private hospital.’

A nurse at Asokoro Hospital confirmed that only a handful of consultants and locum doctors were on duty. ‘We’re overwhelmed, and patients are getting agitated,’ she said.

At Kubwa General Hospital, the usually busy emergency ward was deserted. Yakubu Isah, a patient, lamented, ‘I came for follow-up after surgery, but they said no doctor is around.’

At the Abaji General Hospital, the waiting area, male and female wards, orthopedic, and accident and emergency units were deserted.

Mrs. Rebecca Benjamin, a patient, said she came seeking treatment for a fever but was informed that doctors were on strike.

‘I’ve been here for almost two hours hoping to see a doctor, but I was told they’re on strike. I’ll have to go to a chemist to get some drugs,’ she lamented.

Similar scenes were observed at the Kwali and Kuje general hospitals, where all wards and emergency units were closed. Some patients with serious health conditions said they were unaware of the strike until they arrived for treatment.

Mrs. Abimbola Surajudeen, who brought her son for medical care, expressed frustration. ‘I came this morning only to be told that doctors are on strike. I now have to take him to a private clinic,’ she said.

In the Gwagwalada Area Council, where there is no general hospital apart from a township clinic, medical activities were also paralyzed. Patients seeking care were turned back after being informed of the strike.

Mrs. Fatima Ibrahim, who brought her daughter from Dagiri, said she only received help from a nurse who prescribed basic medication.

Relatives of patients have urged the Federal Government to urgently resolve the impasse, saying the strike is inflicting hardship on ordinary Nigerians.

Farmer Killed In Plateau Attack

A farmer, identified as Bitrus Dakwan, has been killed in an attack by suspected gunmen in the Kubon community, Kombun District, of Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.

Sources who confirmed the attack, told journalists in Jos on Monday, that the incident occurred on Sunday, saying the gunmen invaded the community and started shooting sporadically.

The community accused herders of being responsible for the attack, an allegation that was denied by the herders’ association.

A community leader, John Maikwudi, who also confirmed the incident, called for urgent action to stop the attacks.

According to Maikwudi, the attackers stormed Dakwan’s house and killed him instantly on Sunday.

The community leader said: ‘Yes, there was an attack in our community yesterday, and a young man, a farmer, was killed. His name is Bitrus Dakwan. He was killed last night, Sunday, October 2, 2025, following the attack in the Kubon community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government by herdsmen.

‘The young man was in his house when the attackers came and killed him. He was still mourning his elder brother, who died last month after he fell sick,’ Maikwudi said.

Reacting, the chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN) in Mangu LGA denied the accusation, explaining that the said Kubon community in Kombun District has no boundary with any Fulani settlement.

‘I am just hearing this from you. The area where they said the man was attacked is not close to where we live. A Fulani cannot cross or move around the community either in the day or night because it is a farming community,’ the chairman said.

The spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, could not be reached on his phone as at the time of filling the report.

Gov Sule Warns Politicians Over Early Campaigns In Nasarawa

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has expressed concern over the activities of some politicians whose actions, he said, are generating tension in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, during a bi-monthly media briefing in Lafia on Tuesday, the governor warned that open political campaigns were still prohibited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ahemba said the administration views the ongoing premature campaign activities by some politicians as worrisome, noting that INEC has yet to lift the ban on electioneering.

‘The government will not hesitate to support INEC in enforcing its regulations against anyone who goes contrary to the rules of the game,’ Ahemba stated.

He added that the state government was concerned that the actions of some politicians appeared to be a deliberate attempt to destabilise the system and create unnecessary tension within the political space.

Ahemba advised political actors to restrict themselves to private consultations, which are permitted under the law, rather than engage in open campaigning.

‘Consultations are allowed. If you have any intention to contest for any position, you’re free to consult. But there should be no open campaign at the moment because the ban on political campaigns remains in place,’ he said.

He further disclosed that the government had already taken disciplinary action against one of the governor’s senior special assistants for allegedly engaging in open campaign activities.

The immediate past chairman of Doma Local Government, Architect Ahmed Sarki Usman, was relieved of his duties as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Works, Housing and Transport on October 7 for allegedly campaigning for former Inspector General of Police Abubakar Adamu, who is expected to contest the Nasarawa governorship in 2027.

Trump’s Threat: US-Based Influencers Pushing False Narratives – FG

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, has stated that some influencers that engage in criminal activities are behind the misinformation on Nigeria’s security situation.

The minister who spoke during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday said the security situation in the country is not targeted at a particular ethnic or religious minority.

He added that the challenge of accessing some of the areas affected by insecurity makes it hard for security agencies to ward off such attacks.

Idris said, ‘We can say that, for example, the Nigerian government has been able to have a correlation between some of these lobbies operating especially in the United States of America and the activities here.’

‘We have seen, and it’s a matter of public record, if you go to the records of the United States, there is what is called the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Some of the influencers of these criminal activities have direct relationship with lobbies in the U.S. who have direct relationship with some of the people who are shouting about this issue outside this country. It is a matter of public record. ‘Sometimes you hear these arguments about the minorities being attacked. The policing system and the security agencies will not in any way, because someone is in the minority, say he’s not going to be provided security or he’s not going to be protected by the security agencies. Nigerian security is formed in such a way that they should be able to respond to any threat wherever it may be, whichever community that they belong to.

‘But of course, sometimes access to some of the infrastructure leading to some of these communities make it sometimes a bit difficult to reach there on time or when this crime is committed. And the government is looking seriously into that to improve on that. And that is why there is massive investment in the infrastructure you see going around the country to also make it easy and smooth for the security agencies to operate.’

He added that the government was making all efforts to bring back community policing to complement the efforts of the Nigerian security agencies.

When asked on whether the lack of appointment of ambassadors is responsible to the President Donald Trump’s insistence on Christian genocide in the country, he said it is not, as the federal government has a cordial relation with the US.

He added, ‘We know that ambassadors play a great role in enhancing a country’s image wherever they are. But we don’t want to say it is because there is the absence of ambassadors because the Nigerian government has been relating with the American counterparts and other nations to ensure that there is greater collaboration. But let me also add that the president is working hard on this ambassador matter.’

On his part, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, David Alake, said politicians who lost elections in the elections are also pushing the narrative of Christian genocide in the US.

He added that there is a letter written by Nigerians applauding Trump for labelling Nigeria as a country of concern.

He warned that if there is an escalation in the security situation in the country nobody knows who will be affected.

He also accused them of amplifying the activities of separatist groups in the name of losing elections which he said showed they do not have goodwill towards the country.
