The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has accused President Bola Tinubu of lacking the capacity to develop a ‘blueprint’ capable of addressing insecurity and other challenges confronting Nigeria.
Abubakar Yusuf, national publicity secretary of the APM, asserted in a statement issued on Saturday that Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State and the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, has the ‘blueprint’ needed to tackle the country’s security challenges.
Yusuf said Nigeria could not afford another four years under what he described as the ‘incompetent’ administration of Tinubu.
The APM spokesperson also criticised Christopher Musa, Minister of Defence, over his recent claim that the country’s security situation had improved.
Musa, speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, said terrorist attacks were no longer rampant and that troops were now moving into terrorists’ hideouts to rescue victims.
Yusuf, however, said the minister’s comments showed that the Tinubu administration was ‘either dangerously disconnected from reality or is deliberately attempting to manipulate public perception by denying the actual situation’.
‘The security situation has truly improved as the administration claims, the APM challenges the President, the Minister of Defence, and other senior officials of the Tinubu Presidency to travel by road without armed security details as other Nigerians must do,’ the statement reads.
‘In any case, it is clear that insecurity is festering under President Tinubu because he lacks the capacity to develop and operate a blueprint to tackle and contain the challenge.
‘Our nation cannot survive another four years under such a hopeless and incompetent administration.
‘The APM, however, urges Nigerians not to despair but to remain steadfast in their resolve to vote for our presidential candidate, the people’s candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who is ready with a blueprint that will address the insecurity and other challenges brought upon our nation by the Tinubu-led administration, whose lifespan ends on May 29, 2027.’
The party’s comments come amid continued concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, including Oyo State.
On May 15, gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Command said two people were killed during the attacks, while at least 45 schoolchildren and teachers were abducted.
On July 10, the presidency announced that 39 schoolchildren and five teachers abducted during the incident had been rescued.
