Charting the future of lotteries: Global leaders take the APLA stage

The upcoming Asia Pacific Lottery Association (APLA) conference will gather some of the world’s leading voices in lottery innovation, regulation, and strategy, all set to tackle the complex forces shaping the future of the industry.

Kicking off the discussions is Robert Chvátal, CEO of Allwyn Group, who will dissect the global illegal betting ecosystem- a growing concern for both regulators and legitimate operators. His session will examine the scale and evolution of illicit betting markets, their economic and social toll, and how these undermine public trust and government revenues.

Chvátal will also share international best practices on enforcement and cross-border cooperation, underscoring how collaboration among lotteries, law enforcement, and policymakers can curb illegal activity while reinforcing responsible gaming frameworks.

Meanwhile, Stéphane Pallez, Chairwoman and CEO of Groupe FDJ United, will look ahead to ‘The Lottery Organization of the Next Decade.’ Her talk will explore how national lotteries can evolve amid shifting consumer habits, digital acceleration, and heightened regulatory expectations.

Pallez will discuss the integration of technology and data analytics into lottery operations, as well as the need for stronger player engagement and sustainability-driven business models. Her insights aim to help operators remain both profitable and socially accountable in the years to come.

Rounding out the speaker lineup is Nils Vesk, an innovation expert known for helping global companies thrive amid disruption. His presentation, ‘Thriving in Uncertain Environments,’ will delve into design thinking as a strategic tool for lotteries to adapt and grow in volatile markets.

Vesk’s session promises practical frameworks to boost creative problem-solving and turn uncertainty into opportunity.

Together, these sessions will offer APLA participants a forward-looking lens on regulation, innovation, and resilience, charting a roadmap for how the lottery sector can responsibly navigate a rapidly evolving global landscape.
