THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has assured consumers that suggested retail prices of 190 monitored basic necessities and prime commodities will remain unchanged until December 31, 2026, citing sufficient supplies nationwide.
The commitment covers products included in the agency’s official suggested retail price (SRP) bulletin, which serves as a guide for consumers and retailers.
The DTI said adequate supplies would help keep prices stable through the remaining months of the year, when household spending typically increases ahead of the Christmas holidays.
The price commitment, however, does not cover all products sold in supermarkets and public markets.
Fresh vegetables, fruits and other agricultural commodities not included in the DTI bulletin may continue to experience price fluctuations depending on supply, weather conditions and transportation costs.
The distinction is particularly relevant as consumers contend with rising living costs and the prospect of dry weather associated with El Niño, which could affect agricultural production in the coming months.
The DTI monitors prices of basic necessities and prime commodities to help protect consumers against unjustified increases and ensure that retailers follow applicable pricing regulations.
Consumers are encouraged to consult the agency’s latest SRP bulletin when comparing prices of covered products.
The government’s assurance comes as households prepare for the yearend holiday season, when demand for food and other essential goods traditionally increases.
