CRICKET-IND/WIS-Powell, Rutherford reprimanded for Level 1 breaches in Ranchi T20I

West Indies players Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford have each received an official reprimand and one demerit point after admitting to separate Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against India in Ranchi.

According to the ICC, Powell was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2, which relates to ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.

His offence occurred in the sixth over of West Indies’ innings, when he hit the ball away with his bat after being dismissed by Mayank Yadav.

Rutherford was found to have breached Article 2.8, which covers ‘showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.’

In the 13th over, he yelled aggressively at the umpire after a wide was not given.

The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Virender Sharma.

Both Powell and Rutherford admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions.
