The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has ended a two-day high-level mission to Haiti that was aimed at exploring opportunities to advance public health and strengthen collaboration between the the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Trinidad-based agency.
According to a CARPHA statement, the delegation held discussions with Haiti’s Public Health and Population Minister, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, and other key Haitian health officials and stakeholders identifying ‘opportunities for CARPHA to support Haiti’s health priorities while strengthening the country’s engagement in regional public health initiatives and mechanisms’. Sinal is the incoming chairman of the CARPHA Executive Board (EXB) and will be hosting a board meeting in 2027.
‘The discussions provided an opportunity to advance preparations for Haiti’s leadership of the Agency’s governing body and to explore how this role can further strengthen Haiti’s contribution to regional health dialogue and decision-making,’ CARPHA said, noting that during the two-day visit this week, its executives along with health officials visited the La Fossette hospital, Hôpital Sacré-Cœur, and the Hôpital Universitaire Justinien, to observe the health systems, surveillance and laboratory functions.
