Twenty two people stranded in Tanzania in contact with MFA, spokesperson tells CNA
A total of 22 people, most of them Cypriot citizens, are stranded in Tanzania and are in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an effort to find a way to return home, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Theodoros Gotsis told CNA on Saturday afternoon. The Ministry had issued a travel advisory for Tanzania on Friday, advising Cypriot citizens to exercise a high-degree of caution due to the ongoing unrest and the imposition of curfew in country.

Efforts continue for return of people stranded in Tanzania, MFA Spokesperson tells CNA
Coordination continues between the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in Nairobi, which covers Tanzania, and the Crisis Management Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nicosia, as options are being examined for the fast return of the 22 people, mostly Cypriots, who have become stranded in Tanzania, the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Theodoros Gotsis, told CNA. Responding to a question from CNA, Gotsis said that there is no security concern and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also in contact with the parents of the group of children currently in Tanzania.

Alpha Bank completes acquisition of AstroBank’s banking operations in Cyprus
Alpha Bank has announced the successful completion of the acquisition of substantially all assets and liabilities of AstroBank Public Company Ltd (‘AstroBank’), through its subsidiary Alpha Bank Cyprus Ltd (‘Alpha Bank Cyprus’) and other Group entities, following the receipt of all required regulatory approvals (the ‘Transaction’). The transfer, it notes in the press release, was executed in accordance with the Cyprus Transfer of Banking Business and Securities Law (N.64(I)/1997), and as of 31 October 2025, Alpha Bank Cyprus assumes the assets and liabilities transferred under the Transaction, successfully completing the agreement signed on 24 June 2025.

Eurostat: 8.2% of workers in the EU and 6.9% in Cyprus at risk of poverty
A percentage of 8.2% of workers aged 18 and above in the EU were at risk of poverty in 2024, despite being actively employed, the latest data on the living conditions of workers, published by Eurostat, shows. Industrial Turnover Index up 4% in Jan-Aug, down 3.4% in August
The Industrial Turnover Index recorded an increase of 4%, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, data published by the Statistical Service on Wednesday show. However, in August 2025, the Industrial Turnover Index reached 115.2 units (base 2021=100), recording a decrease of 3.4% compared to August 2024, mainly due to a drop in electricity supply. In manufacturing, the Industrial Turnover Index for August 2025 reached 105 units, recording an increase of 1.2% compared to August 2024.
Number of unemployed persons down 8.8% in October
The number of registered unemployed fell by 8.8% in October, according to data published on Wednesday by the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat). According to CyStat, the unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of October 2025, reached 7,099 persons.

A slight slowdown in growth of 2.0% on an annual basis was recorded in October 2025 by the Cyprus Composite Leading Economic Index (CCLEI), which is compiled and estimated by the Economics Research Centre (ERC) of the University of Cyprus, showing a steady annual growth rate, which, according to the Centre, indicates that “the Cypriot economy continues on a positive course, amid geopolitical turmoil and increased economic uncertainty.” This rise, as announced by the ERC on Wednesday, follows annual increases of 2.0% in September, 2.1% in August, and 2.2% in July 2025, according to the latest revised data. It is noted that in October 2025, the Index showed a steady annual growth rate, reflecting the relative balance between positive and negative trends in the individual indicators.

President and Kallas discussed EU role in Cyprus issue and Cyprus role in the region

Negative inflation 0.3% recorded in October
Inflation in October 2025 decreased at a rate of 0.3%, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Thursday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October 2025 increased by 0.54 points, reaching 118.25 units compared to 117.71 units in September 2025. The largest positive change in the economic categories, compared with October 2024, was recorded in Services (3%), while the largest negative changes were observed in Electricity (-7.5%) and Agricultural Products (-2.6%).

BoC: Profits of pound 353 million, new loans increase by 31% in first 9 months of 2025

A total of 14 bounced cheques were recorded in October in the preliminary list of the Central Information Register (CIR), with a total value of pound 176,435, according to data released on Thursday by the Central Bank. In October, seven entities were added to the preliminary list: four legal entities and three natural persons. During the period from January to October 2025, a total of 198 bounced cheques were recorded, amounting to pound 616,580.

The weight of freight transported from and to Cyprus in the first six months of the year showed an annual increase of 5.0%. According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, during the period January-June 2025, the total weight of goods transported by road in Cyprus increased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2024, while the weight of freight transported from and to Cyprus also increased by 5.0%. Investment Funds’ assets up 16% year-over-year in September 2025, CBC data show
The assets of investment funds in Cyprus recorded a 16% increase in September 2025 compared with the same month in 2024, according to data published by the Central Bank on Friday. The total assets of investment funds in September amounted to pound 7,892.2 million, compared with pound 6,801.7 million in September 2024, marking an increase of more than pound 1 billion.
Seasonally adjusted GDP growth at 3.6% in Q3, 2025
The GDP growth rate in real terms, seasonally adjusted, during the third quarter of 2025 is positive and it is estimated at 3.6% over the corresponding quarter of 2024, according to a flash estimate, published by the Statistical Service on Friday. Compared to the previous quarter, GDP went up 0.9% in the third quarter. The positive GDP growth rate is mainly attributed to the sectors “Wholesale and Retail Trade, “Repair of Motor Vehicles”, “Information and Communication”, “Hotels and Restaurants”.
Finance Minister says that growth rate at 3.6% in 3Q confirms impetus of Cypriot economy

Permanent Representative of Cyprus at the Council of Europe, Ambassador George Yiangou, has deposited on Friday the instruments of ratification of a series of Conventions and Protocols to the Deputy Secretary General of CoE Bjørn Berge. In the period between January and July 2025, 4,195 building permits were issued compared to 4,879 in the same period last year, marking a 14% decrease, according to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service on Monday. According to CyStat, the number of building permits authorised in July 2025 amounted to 796, while the total value of these permits reached pound 454.9 million and the total area 359,100 square meters, corresponding to 1,512 residential units. It is added that the total value of these permits increased by 4.8% and the total area by 7.8%, while the number of residential units having increased by 4.6%.

Construction materials prices were up in October on an annual basis and in the first ten months of this year, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service on Tuesday show. Consumer Prices Index slightly up in October on annual basis
The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices in October 2025 increased by 0,2% compared with October 2024 and recorded an increase of 0,1% compared with September 2025. According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, compared with October 2024, the largest positive changes were observed in the categories Recreation and Culture (5,2%) and Restaurants and Hotels (5,2%), while the largest decreases were recorded in the categories Clothing and Footwear (-6,6%) and Housing, Water Supply, Electricity and Gas (-2,2%).

First meeting between President Christodoulides-Erhrman underway
The first meeting of President Nikos Christodoulides with the new leader of the Turkish Cypriots, Tufan Erhrman began at around 9:50 am on Thursday at the residence of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the Nicosia Buffer Zone. UN Secretary-General personal envoy on Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin, also participated in the meeting via videoconference from Lima, Peru. President Christodoulides arrived first, accompanied by the Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaos.

Cyprus 2nd in EU in residence permits granted to minors in 2024
Cyprus had the second highest rate of residence permits issued to non-EU minors in 2024 relative to its population after Malta, according to the latest Eurostat data. EU Infringement proceedings against Cyprus and 25 member states for energy efficiency
The European Commission has called on 26 EU Member States, including Cyprus, to incorporate energy efficiency rules into their national legislation. In a press release on Friday, the European Commission said it has decided to initiate infringement proceedings by sending letters to Member States, excluding the Czech Republic, due to their failure to transpose the Energy Efficiency Directive (EU) 2023/1791 into national law.

More Cypriot residents made domestic and outbound trips in 2024 compared to 2023
During 2024, 543,526 residents of Cyprus participated in at least one domestic or/and outbound trip that included a minimum of one overnight stay for personal purposes, recording an increase of 9.1% compared to 2023, during which a total of 498.026 persons have traveled domestically or abroad. According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, residents participating only in domestic trips increased by 5.2% in 2024, reaching 164,590 compared to 156,510 in 2023.

The implementation of the state budget up to the end of October reached 65% in terms of revenue and 59% in terms of expenditure, according to data published on Monday by the Treasury. At the end of October 2025, revenues amounted to pound 7.63 billion, corresponding to 65% of the state budget (2024: pound 8.48 billion, 75%), while actual expenditures reached pound 7.68 billion, corresponding to 59% implementation (2024: pound 8.77 billion, 64%).
Individuals and legal entities related to Cyprus removed from OFAC’s SDN list
Individuals and legal entities connected to Cyprus were removed on Monday from the updated designations list of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). These natural and legal persons had been included on the OFAC list due to their links to sanctions imposed on Russia. Specifically, five individuals and three legal entities connected to one of the individuals were removed from the OFAC list. Two of the three legal entities are registered in Cyprus.

President calls on Ankara to agree on maritime borders with the Cyprus Republic
President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, called on the Turkish government to sit down with the Republic of Cyprus at the same table, to agree on maritime borders. Total sales in petroleum products in October recorded an annual increase, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service. In a press release, it says that in October 2025, the total sales of petroleum products amounted to 141,540 tonnes, recording an increase of 4.7% compared to October 2024.
