Van Vicker Graduates With First Class Law Degree

Renowned actor and filmmaker, Van Vicker, has graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Wisconsin International University College, Ghana.

The celebrated actor announced the accomplishment on Instagram on Friday, sharing his thoughts on what the academic honour represents.

While acknowledging the significance of earning First Class Honours, he stressed that excelling academically does not automatically translate into professional success as a lawyer.

According to him, the distinction reflects dedication, discipline, critical thinking and academic excellence. However, he noted that qualities such as integrity, practical experience, emotional intelligence and continuous learning are equally important in building a successful legal career.

‘First Class Honours is proof of academic mastery, not professional mastery,’ Van Vicker stated, adding that becoming a great lawyer requires mentorship, practice and strong character.

The award-winning actor began his legal studies in 2023 and completed the programme earlier this year. In January 2026, he announced that he had successfully finished the course and was awaiting graduation.

Van Vicker remains one of Africa’s most recognisable film stars, with a career spanning more than 20 years. He has featured in numerous productions across Ghana and Nigeria and has also made a mark as a director and producer through his company, Sky + Orange Productions.

Medley Of Negativities

Last week’s reports about scattered incidents of violence across the country, some involving students, cast a shadow on security in the country.

The reports also point at a society in a degenerative mode even as adults or stakeholders with oversight responsibilities over the youth fold their arms somewhat helplessly and sometimes perhaps not taking note of the developing anomalies.

We stand the risk of losing a generation should we continue the indifference towards taking responsibility for moulding our youth.

A female student of the University Of Cape Coast was found dead at a nearby beach about which the police have commenced investigation.

At Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region, a group of armed young men reportedly invaded the Christ The King Senior High School (SHS) with an obvious intention to wreak violence as their mission left two students with machete injuries.

From Cape Coast came a report about the discovery of the remains of a student who had just completed writing his final WASSCE papers, a victim of suicide.

Students of Bawku Senior High School (SHS) had attacked their teachers for not allowing them to cheat during the just ended WASSCE.

A male teacher was also captured in a video in a scuffle on a Senior High School (SHS) campus. The Bole SHS sex scandal is another kettle of fish enough commentaries have been presented.

Five Central University students are being investigated for allegedly selling wee-laced toffee and sobolo to fellow students on campus.

Something is wrong with society but we appear to be in denial mode about this reality. Apart from the occasional mention through news reports about these occurrences, nothing has been done to arrest them.

Shouldn’t we as a country converse about the rising tide of indiscipline among our youth? The answer is definitely an affirmative but who would start it when parents and stakeholders are shirking their responsibilities including faith leaders of both Christianity and Islam?

The role of social media in all the foregone should not be disregarded. Juveniles have such a free access to social media through the acquisition of smart phones that the negative impact of this cannot be discounted.

Some countries such as the UK have started the process of restricting social media to above 16 and have completed the necessary legislation to that effect.

Shouldn’t we start a national conversation in this regard given the rising incidents of indiscipline among the youth?

The kind of contents kids, some of them in the early stages of Senior High School (SHS), are exposed to is scary. Little wonder they put up conducts which look too distant for their ages.

When students gang up to assault their teachers because of the strict enforcement of school rules there is need to find out the root causes of the societal degeneration which is what we are calling for at this stage.

Northshore Apparel Gets WRAP Certification

Northshore Apparel Ghana LTD has been awarded Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) certification, marking a major step for the Savelugu based garment maker on the global stage.

The WRAP certificate is valid from June 12, 2026 to June 12, 2027 and follows a rigorous independent audit of the company’s full production operations.

The audit examined all key production areas at the Savelugu facility including fabric receiving, cutting, sewing, finishing, pressing, packing, quality control and dispatch, and confirmed compliance with WRAP’s 12 principles.

WRAP is the world’s largest independent certification programme for ethical manufacturing in apparel, footwear and sewn products; its standards cover lawful and humane labour practices, the prohibition of forced and child labour, freedom of association, workplace health and safety, fair compensation, responsible working hours, environmental responsibility, customs compliance and ethical business conduct.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Northshore Apparel GH LTD, Mohammed Nurideen, deducted the achievement to workers and the team at the company.

‘This certification is independent confirmation of what our people deliver every day. It tells the world that garments made in Savelugu are made responsibly, made ethically, and made to compete anywhere on earth,’ he said

According to him, Northshore positions itself as Ghana’s first regenerative, zero-waste apparel manufacturing hub and that its operating model combines garment production with environmental stewardship and inclusive employment, guided by a ‘three-baobab’ philosophy of People, Planet and Prosperity.

He said the WRAP certification verifies the company’s social compliance, workplace safety and environmental practices and provides international buyers confidence that products are produced to global standards.

Mr. Nurideen noted the company’s potential local impact with capacity to employ up to 10,000 workers adding that they aim to create opportunities for youth, women and persons with disabilities including members of the deaf community helping to address unemployment, economic vulnerability and rural-urban migration in the north noting that the company’s workplace culture prioritises women’s empowerment, disability inclusion, worker welfare and occupational safety.

‘The milestone is expected to strengthen Northshore’s appeal to international brands, sourcing companies, development partners and government institutions focused on responsible industrialisation and ethical supply chains. It also aligns the company with Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy agenda: as an export oriented, shift-capable manufacturer, Northshore could contribute to round-the-clock production, increased export earnings and local economic stimulation with appropriate policy and buyer partnerships,’ he disclosed

The Northshore Apparel GH LTD CEO, is of the view that the WRAP certificate signals that world class, export-ready manufacturing can be located outside Ghana’s traditional industrial centres.

‘Northshore is ready to welcome current and prospective partners to its Savelugu facility as it expands its contribution to responsible manufacturing, inclusive employment and Ghana’s export-led industrial development,’ he said.

Police Foil Bondee Mine Concession Takeover

A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organiser has been accused of leading Chinese nationals and men believed to be soldiers to forcibly take over a mining concession in the Western Region.

The incident occurred over the weekend at the Bondae mine concession and it took the intervention of the Western Regional Police to prevent what sources described as a potential violent clash and security officials at the mine.

The dispute centers on a concession subject to ongoing litigation at the Sekondi High Court where Long Shine Mining Ghana Limited has filed a suit challenging the legality of a contract termination.

The former national organiser is reported to have allegedly sought police assistance to take over the concession last Saturday, and later approached the MCE for the area.

With both efforts proving unsuccessful due to the pending court case the former NDC organiser attempted to enter the mine but was prevented by the security which led to a standoff.

The police were later called in to restore order and peace in the area.

Mining sector observers say disputes over concessions and ownership should be settled through legal processes, not through actions that could be seen as interference.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat have in recent months targeted illegal mining sites, including some linked to foreign nationals in the Western and Western North regions.

Legal experts note that once a matter is before a competent court, parties are expected to avoid actions that could prejudice proceedings or spark conflict on the ground.

They stress that respect for judicial processes is key to stability in the mining industry and to protecting local and foreign investment.

The incident is likely to revive debate over political influence in the management of mining concessions, an issue that has featured in public discussions on natural resource governance.

Meanwhile, stakeholders have called for a thorough investigation into the alleged raid and urged all parties to respect the judicial process until the court delivers a final ruling.

Music Isn’t My Last Option – Davido

Afrobeats superstar Davido has hit back at critics who claim he only does music to stay relevant or make a living, insisting his career is driven by passion, not necessity.

The 30BG boss made the statement on X, writing: ‘Una think say music nah my last option, una go learn.’

Davido’s post is a direct rebuttal to the assumption that he chose music out of desperation or because he lacked other viable career paths.

Coming from the famously affluent and influential Adeleke family, the award-winning artist has vast generational wealth and a highly successful business empire outside entertainment.

With the bold remark, Davido is reminding detractors that he makes music purely out of love for the craft.

It also serves as a confident warning to competitors: respect his talent and longevity, as he will continue to dominate the industry on his own terms regardless of their opinions.

The post has since sparked debate online, with fans applauding his confidence while critics weigh in on the ongoing conversation about privilege and artistry.

‘I’m not a @davido fan, but from the deepest part of my heart I love how the guy carries himself. He knows when to be serious, when to play, and he is not an attention seeker, but he pays attention. And most importantly, his humility. If I must be a fan of any Nigerian secular musician, it must be Davido,’ Clement C Mbanugo wrote under Davido’s post.

Uzo Chiamaka also wrote: ‘ Why all these long talk. Leave Davido alone. There is something about someone whom even grandmothers love and attend his shows. The love for Davido is about his inner man. . He is a very real person. Good and innocent free spirited individual. Stop hating on him.’

Adwoa Safo Shot, 6 Arrested

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has allegedly been shot by persons suspected to be security details of her younger brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

The incident, which left her with gunshot wounds to her left ear, is reported to have occurred at about 10.30am yesterday when she went to brother’s residence.

According to a police source, the 44-year-old woman came to the Kwabenya Police Charge Office in a Land Cruiser with registration number GN 3482-24 with gunshot marks on the back passenger window and the front fender.

Blood was oozing from her left ear at the time when she turned up at the Police Station.

According to her statement, she went to her late father’s house at Kwabenya at about 10.15am and that upon reaching the location her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, ordered his security details to open fire on her leaving her with injuries on her left ear.

Following her statement, the police provided her with a medical form to proceed to the hospital for attention as part of a routine procedure.

The bullet riddled vehicle has also been retained by the Police as part of the investigations.

6 Arrested

Meanwhile, six bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena have been arrested following the shooting of the former legislator.

Police say they retrieved five pump-action guns, Taurus pistol with ammunition, and communication equipment.

Police confirmed that the bodyguards discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in the injuries to Adwoa Safo and damage to her vehicle.

The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation.

Kristo Asafo Mission Statement

However, the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has issued a statement addressing reports claiming Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot injury from her brother during the incident.

‘We categorically reject these allegations as false and misleading. To the best of our knowledge and based on information presently available to us, no such shooting occurred,’ the statement said.

According to the church, the incident occurred after a lawful church service.

The statement said Adwoa Safo arrived at the premises and ‘forcefully drove her vehicle into the entrance gates,’ striking two metallic gates and causing substantial damage.

The church said numerous worshippers and invited guests were present at the time, including people seated near the entrance.

‘The actions described above created a serious risk to life and property. Had the gates completely collapsed or had the vehicle proceeded beyond the entrance, the safety of attendees could have been gravely endangered,’ the statement read.

It said security personnel on duty intervened, adding that their actions were ‘directed solely toward preserving public safety and preventing injury to attendees.’

The church has called on law enforcement authorities to conduct a ‘thorough and impartial investigation into all aspects of the incident’ and urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified social media reports.

‘We remain committed to peace, truth, the rule of law, and the safety of all persons who attend our events,’ the statement read.

New Kristo Asafo Leader

Following the earlier incident, videos of a swearing-in ceremony circulated widely showing Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena being installed as the new leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, even as a legal battle over his appointment continues in court.

In his inaugural address, Akofena called on members to unite ‘as one, especially during difficult times’ and urged them to rise above challenges and continue the late founder’s works.

Supporters have hailed the installation as a ‘new dawn’ for the movement ahead of the late Apostle Safo Kantanka’s funeral, which is scheduled for July 30.

Car Crash Leaves Motorcyclist In Coma, Several Injured

A motorcyclist is battling for his life after a horrific multi-vehicle crash at Adabraka near Old Tafo in the Ashanti Region, which also left several other people injured.

The accident, which caused heavy traffic congestion, involved a Toyota V8 vehicle, a motorcycle, a commercial tricycle (Pragia), and two parked vehicles displayed for sale.

Eyewitnesses said the Toyota V8 was travelling from the Atimatim Junction towards Mamponteng when it collided with an oncoming motorcycle.

In the ensuing confusion, the driver reportedly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to speed forward and run over the motorcyclist, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

An eyewitness, Mohammed Nurudeen, told DAILY GUIDE that after knocking down the rider, the V8 crashed into a commercial tricycle carrying passengers, injuring those on board.

He said the vehicle then crossed to the opposite side of the road, rammed into two unoccupied vehicles parked for sale, and finally came to a halt after hitting a metal signpost.

Another eyewitness, identified only as Kofi, disclosed that some children who were travelling in the V8 vehicle, also sustained injuries in the crash.

The motorcyclist is currently in a coma and is said to have suffered multiple fractures, while the other injured victims have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police personnel have since visited the scene to manage traffic, clear the wreckage, and commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Ayew Backs Black Stars To Overcome England On Tuesday

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed confidence that the Black Stars can secure a positive result against England when the two sides meet in a crucial Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup tomorrow.

Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the tournament, began their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama at BMO Field and now turn their attention to one of the toughest tests in the group.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s encounter, Ayew said the team remains fully focused on taking the competition one game at a time as they aim to reach the knockout stage.

‘We have two important games left. We take it game by game,’ the Ghana skipper said.

‘We are focused on getting the three points in the next match, and after that we will think about the last game.’

England enter the match in high spirits after opening their World Cup campaign with an impressive 4-2 win over Croatia.

A second consecutive victory would secure qualification to the knockout rounds for the Three Lions.

Despite acknowledging England’s quality, Ayew believes Ghana have what it takes to cause an upset and strengthen their chances of progressing from the group.

‘It’s always difficult playing at the World Cup. There are no easy games, but we believe in ourselves, and we feel that anything is possible,’ he added.

A positive result against England would leave Ghana in a strong position ahead of their final group fixture against Croatia, which takes place four days later.

The four-time African champions are seeking to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since their memorable run to the quarter-finals in South Africa in 2010.

Creatives Urged To Protect Their Mental Health

CREATIVE DIRECTOR and Cultural Strategist Kelvin Vincent has paid tribute to the late fashion designer Sadia Sanusi, using her memory to spotlight the hidden emotional toll of the creative industry.

Speaking in a video on social media, Kelvin Vincent said creatives should prioritise their mental health because their minds are their primary tools for innovation.

He indicated that burnout, anxiety, and depression can stifle the ‘flow state’ needed to produce great work.

‘We sold out collections, trending creations, and we really talk about what it costs. There’s something we don’t talk about enough in the creative industry. We talk about success, luxury, sold-out collections, trendy creations, but we rarely talk about what it costs us emotionally and mentally’ Vincent shared.

Vincent also revealed that Sanusi was his best friend in high school, long before clients, deadlines, and pressure.

‘We sat on the same desk and talked about fashion and dreamt about our future till Sanusi moved to Accra Girls,’ he recalled.

Kelvin Vincent stated that fast forward to their careers in fashion, one thing he always admired was her talent and resilience – something he made sure she knew.

He warned that empathy, a gift that makes creatives better at their work, can also become self-destruction. ‘Compassion fatigue is real, guys, and nobody really talks about it. You can genuinely love the work you do and still become exhausted by it.’

Drawing from his own experience of trying to be available to everyone, Vincent concluded with a hard truth for the industry: ‘The truth is, you cannot continuously pour from an empty cup. Yes, clients deserve excellence, and we definitely need to do our possible best for them.

But, contrary to what many of us believe, the world will continue with or without you when it’s convenient. The clients will replace you.’
