Ga East Assembly Grades Hospital Road Ahead Of Full Reconstruction

The Ga East Municipal Assembly has carried out emergency grading on the road leading to the Ga East Municipal Hospital, easing access for patients, health workers, and residents after years of complaints.

The workers were seen using the Assembly’s grader and other equipment following mounting concerns over the road’s poor condition. Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Edmund Agboh, said the move is a temporary fix while the municipality awaits a contractor to begin permanent reconstruction.

‘This was on the direct instruction of Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, who has pushed hard for road rehabilitation in the constituency,’ Agboh explained during the exercise.

‘Access to healthcare should never be blocked by bad roads. That’s why we acted now,’ he added. Mr. Agboh stressed that poor road conditions had been disrupting emergency services and patient movement, making the intervention urgent.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure and working with stakeholders to solve community challenges. Ga East District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Coordinator, Seth Agboyie, said deploying machinery shows government’s intent to tackle accessibility quickly at the local level.

‘The hospital serves thousands. We had to respond fast,’ he noted. The grading is expected to improve traffic flow, especially during the rainy season.

The action follows MP Akurugu’s recent Mother’s Day visit to the hospital, where doctors and nurses flagged the deteriorating road as a major barrier to care. She later issued a public appeal, captured in a viral video, demanding urgent repairs and stressing that residents deserve safe access to healthcare.

Locals welcomed the move. Many said the stretch had been in disrepair for years, damaging vehicles and making hospital trips uncomfortable for patients.

They thanked the MP, MCE, and Assembly, but urged authorities to ensure that full reconstruction starts soon.

The Assembly says the grading is part of wider efforts to boost road access and service delivery across the municipality.

Permanent works are expected once the contractor mobilises to site.

Otumfuo Urges Diaspora To Preserve Ghanaian Culture

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, made a majestic arrival at Sankofa Square in Toronto for a colourful durbar, using the moment to stress culture and identity as the foundation of Ghana’s global partnerships.

In his opening address to the Ghanaian diaspora community in Toronto, the Asantehene called on them not to forget their roots. ‘Do not lose your identity. Teach your children our language, customs, and values,’ he said.

His Majesty noted that Ghanaians abroad are the country’s greatest ambassadors. ‘You carry the resilience, the intellect, and the warm hospitality of our homeland in your daily lives. Do not lose your identity. Teach your children our language, customs, and our values,’ he told the gathering.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said that while his business engagements focused on trade, green energy, and institutional partnerships, the durbar was designed to showcase the cultural infrastructure that underpins those deals.

‘Ghana is open for business, open for tourism, and open for collaboration. I invite our Canadian friends to experience Ghana through the food, the music, the textiles, and the arts displayed in this village. To our diaspora community in Toronto and across Canada, this village is a home away from home – a place to come together, to cheer, and to remember who you are.’

He expressed gratitude to the government and people of Canada for the hospitality that allows Ghanaians to thrive while retaining their identity.

‘The peaceful and welcoming environment you provide allows our people to thrive, build, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to Canadian society while proudly retaining their Ghanaian identity,’ he added.

LPG Demands More Action From Ashanti Minister

The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) has called on the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to demonstrate greater commitment to the development of the region, accusing him of failing to deliver tangible results nearly two years after assuming office.

In a press statement issued on June 17, 2026, and signed by its General Secretary, Jerry Owusu Appauh, the party expressed disappointment over what it described as the minister’s underwhelming performance.

According to the LPG, many residents of the Ashanti Region believe there is little to show for Dr. Amoakohene’s stewardship despite the period he has spent in office.

The party noted that as a medical doctor by profession, the minister should have placed greater emphasis on improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that health facilities across the region are completed, equipped and made operational.

The statement further highlighted concerns over stalled and delayed health infrastructure projects, particularly facilities initiated under the previous government’s Agenda 111 programme.

‘Many residents continue to express concerns about stalled or delayed health projects, including facilities initiated under Agenda 111. Public infrastructure that remains unfinished or unused for long periods risks deterioration while communities continue to struggle for access to quality healthcare,’ the statement noted.

The LPG stressed that the Ashanti Region deserves leadership that prioritises results, accountability and development, adding that residents expect functioning hospitals, improved infrastructure and visible progress that positively impacts their daily lives.

The party also took a swipe at the minister’s public engagements, claiming that his most visible achievements in office have been social media activities and beautification projects rather than substantive developmental interventions.

The LPG maintained that its criticism was not politically motivated but rather driven by concern for the welfare of the people of the Ashanti Region.

‘The citizens of Ashanti deserve better, and it is reasonable to expect more from leaders entrusted with the development of the region,’ the statement added.

The LPG therefore urged Dr. Frank Amoakohene to intensify efforts towards addressing the region’s developmental challenges and delivering the progress residents expect from his administration.

Haaland Double Powers Norway Past Iraq In World Cup Return

Erling Haaland marked his FIFA World Cup debut with two goals as Norway defeated a determined Iraq side 4-1 in their opening Group I match at Boston Stadium.

The Manchester City striker continued his remarkable international scoring form, taking his tally to 57 goals in 51 appearances for Norway as the Scandinavian nation celebrated its first World Cup match in 28 years with a victory.

Despite making their first World Cup appearance in 40 years, Iraq started confidently and matched Norway for long periods.

However, the breakthrough came shortly after the first-half hydration break when David Moller Wolfe delivered a low cross from the left for Haaland to slide home at the far post.

Iraq responded impressively and deservedly equalised in the 39th minute. Amir Al-Ammari’s cross found Aymen Hussein, who powered a header beyond the goalkeeper to level the scores.

The parity lasted only four minutes. Under pressure from Haaland, veteran goalkeeper Jalal Hassan hesitated over a back-pass inside his six-yard box, allowing the Norwegian striker to block the clearance and watch the ball ricochet into the net.

Iraq continued to threaten before the break, creating several chances through Ibrahim Bayesh, Ali Al-Hamadi and Akam Hashim, but failed to find another equaliser.

Norway secured breathing space in the 76th minute when substitute Leo Ostigard headed in a Martin Odegaard corner.

Deep into stoppage time, Haaland’s looping header across goal was inadvertently turned into his own net by Hussein, sealing a convincing victory.

The match also saw a historic moment as substitute Zidan Iqbal became the first player of Pakistani heritage to feature in a men’s World Cup.

The win gives Norway a strong start to their campaign, while Iraq’s search for a first-ever World Cup point continues.

Gifty Oware Trial: Banker Admits NIB Fraud Probe

Gilbert Serbeh-Yeboah, the Attorney General’s second witness in the trial of former Deputy Executive Director of National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware-Mensah, on Tuesday admitted he was a subject of investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in relation to the master agreement entered between Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and the accused person.

Mrs. Oware-Mensah is standing trial before the court for allegedly stealing and causing financial loss of GHS38.4 million to the state.

The witness, while under cross-examination by Gary Nimako Marfo, counsel for Mrs. Oware-Mensah, admitted that he was investigated for the offence of abetment of causing financial loss to the state, stealing and defrauding by false pretences.

Mr. Serbeh-Yeboah, who is the Head of Consumer Finance at ADB and one of the people who worked on the loan facility, had indicated that the NIB invited the Managing Director of the bank and not him personally and he (witness) decided to accompany him.

He, however, admitted upon further questioning that he gave two cautioned statements to the NIB, one on March 27 and the other on March 28, 2025.

In his first caution statement, the witness briefly introduced himself, denied the charges against him and indicated that he wished to exercise his constitutional right to remain silent.

He added that all other information on the transaction are with the bank.

‘I am putting it to you that you were not invited by the NIB simply because you work at ADB but your role as Head of Consumer Finance in this NSA-ADB higher purchase agreement,’ Mr. Nimako suggested.

‘The NIB did not invite me. The NIB invited Managing Director of ADB and I accompanied him. So, I don’t have any personal invitation from NIB,’ the witness answered.

However, Mr. Serbeh-Yeboah admitted that it was him who was cautioned by official of NIB and not the Managing Director of the bank.

Mr. Nimako Marfo then explored the possible reason why the banker was not charged by the NIB, leading the witness to say ‘I don’t know the reason I was not charged. I was not in the mind of NIB and I had denied any wrongdoing.’

The witness, in his second cautioned statement, told the NIB that the NSA-ADB agreement went through the required banking process at ADB and same was approved.

He also confirmed telling the Bureau that ADB sent transfers to Blocks of Life Consult Limited, a company associated with Gifty Oware-Mensah, under written instruction from the accused.

Meanwhile, the witness has indicated that he was not aware of the National Service Authority, which engaged the ADB on this higher purchase agreement, making any official complaints to ADB that Mrs. Oware-Mensah has stolen any money belonging to NSA.

‘I am further putting it to you that the National Service Authority has not filed any official complaint with ADB as at today 16th of June 2026 that the accused person has stolen GHS30,701,554, the property belonging to the authority. Not so?’ the lawyer asked.

‘My Lady, not that I know of,’ the witness replied.

‘Tell the court, has ADB made any adverse findings within the bank against any of the officers that played a role with respect to the NSA-ADB higher purchase facility?’ Mr. Marfo further asked.

‘My Lady, I don’t know of any investigation against any person,’ Mr. Serbeh-Yeboah answered.

The lawyer also asked the witness whether the directors of Blocks of Life Consult Limited have approached ADB that it has made any wrong transfers into account of the company. ‘Not that I know of,’ the witness answered.

Mystery Deaths Rock Nsuta

Residents of Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region have been left devastated following the mysterious deaths of two young people in a room under circumstances that remain unclear.

The deceased have been identified as Emmanuel Kwarteng, popularly known as ‘Puka,’ a mobile phone repairer and owner of No Fears Mobile Hospital, and Juliet, a hairdressing apprentice at Lily Frimps Salon at Birim near Nsuta.

The two were reportedly found dead on Sunday morning after spending Saturday night at Emmanuel’s residence during a power outage caused by a heavy rainstorm.

Oheneba Adu Poku, a resident of the community, told DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview that Emmanuel was using a generator to power his phone repair business following a blackout triggered by the torrential rainfall on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

According to him, Juliet had allegedly visited Emmanuel to have her mobile phone repaired after electricity supply to the area was interrupted.

He explained that Emmanuel used the hall of his apartment as a workshop while the adjoining room served as his bedroom.

Oheneba Adu Poku indicated that due to the heavy rainfall, Emmanuel allegedly moved the generator into the room, where an air-conditioner was running, while the doors and windows remained closed.

The following morning, a passerby reportedly discovered Juliet lying motionless on the floor, while Emmanuel was also found dead a few metres away.

Although the exact cause of death is yet to be established, residents suspect the pair may have died from inhaling toxic fumes emitted by the generator.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service visited the scene and have since launched investigations to ascertain the actual cause of death and determine whether foul play was involved.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents appealing to the police to expedite investigations and establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

Two Jailed Over Brent Energy Filling Station Robbery

The Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Apietu, has sentenced two men to lengthy prison terms for their involvement in a violent armed robbery at the Brent Energy Filling Station at New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region.

The convicts, Kwadwo Baffoe, also known as Owusu or ‘Sman,’ 38, a driver, and Kwame Affisah, also known as ‘Abednego,’ 36, also a driver, were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage and two counts of robbery, contrary to the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The prosecution, led by ASP Lloyd Baidoo, told the court that at about 1:30 a.m. on August 17, 2024, the two men, together with accomplices still at large, stormed the Brent Energy Filling Station at New Edubiase armed with pump-action guns.

The robbers overpowered fuel attendants and other persons spending the night at the station, tied them up with ropes and forced their way into the manager’s office after damaging several doors and a money safe.

They made away with GHS2,500 in cash and personal belongings, including a Tecno Pouvoir 3 mobile phone, an Infinix mobile phone, an Itel keypad phone, a smartwatch and an iPod belonging to workers Bismark Bonney and Yaw Kuma. They also caused extensive damage to a money safe valued at GHS6,000, three Chinese-made doors worth GHS6,100, and three locally manufactured doors valued at GHS1,200.

Police investigations led to the arrest of Kwadwo Baffoe in the Eastern Region on October 18, 2024, where he had been arrested in connection with another robbery case. During interrogation, he admitted participating in the Brent Energy robbery.

Further investigations revealed that Kwame Affisah was already serving a seven-year prison sentence at the Kumasi Central Prison following his conviction in a separate stealing case. He was subsequently brought before the Bekwai Circuit Court on a warrant and also admitted his involvement in the robbery.

After hearing the evidence, His Honour Isaac Apietu found Kwadwo Baffoe guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and two counts of robbery, but acquitted him of the charges of unlawful entry and causing unlawful damage.

Kwame Affisah was found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful entry and two counts of robbery, but was acquitted on the charge of causing unlawful damage.

The court sentenced Kwadwo Baffoe to 20 years’ imprisonment on each of the two robbery counts, while Kwame Affisah, who was already serving a seven-year prison sentence, was handed 30 years’ imprisonment on each of the two robbery counts.

The sentences are to run concurrently, and both convicts have since been returned to the Kumasi Central Prison to continue serving their respective jail terms.

ASP Lloyd Baidoo prosecuted the case on behalf of the Republic.

I Am Ready For Divorce – Florence Obinim

Gospel musician, Florence Obinim, has revealed that she is prepared to divorce her husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim, if he decides to end their marriage.

She told Ghpage that she would not oppose a divorce if that is the direction her husband wants to take.

According to her, she has remained humble and patient throughout their marriage, but feels that her efforts have not been appreciated by the founder of the International God’s Way Church.

‘I have been humble and patient with Bishop, yet he still does not appreciate the kind of woman I am. May God’s will be done. If he is ready for a divorce, then I am ready too,’ she said.

Florence disclosed that about a month ago, she had a conversation with her husband about the years they have spent together and her behaviour throughout the marriage.

She said she reminded him of her calm and humble nature but stressed that she could not be pushed beyond her limits or be expected to do things that could put her life at risk.

According to Florence, she does not understand what more her husband expects from her at this stage of their marriage.

She also hinted at issues concerning Bishop Obinim that she has chosen not to discuss publicly.

‘If I choose to speak about certain things that concern me about Bishop’s life, it would not be pleasant. There are things I am entitled to that would give me peace of mind, but if I am denied them, I simply stay quiet. If I need to buy or rent them myself, I go ahead and do so,’ she stated.
