Ghana has made a strong case as a competitive destination for outsourcing and digital services at a High Level Global Business Services (GBS) Executive Roundtable held in London as government officials and industry leaders laid out the country’s readiness to serve UK and European markets.

Hosted at the Ghana High Commission in Belgrave Square, the event was convened by the Business Outsourcing Services Association of Ghana (BOSAG) with Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDLC) and the Ghana High Commission in the UK.

It drew senior government officials, global industry leaders, investors, and ecosystem stakeholders focused on advancing Ghana’s role in the global services economy.

The session was moderated by Samuel Kasumu, Founder and CEO of Archeva Outsourcing and Former Senior Advisor to the UK Prime Minister.

Citing his Powered by Africa initiative, Kasumu said global perceptions of Africa must shift, noting the continent is already powering global industries through talent, innovation, and enterprise.

The Roundtable built on the Ghana-UK Investment Summit held earlier in the week, reinforcing commitments to expand bilateral trade and investment in the fast-growing global services sector.

Deputy High Commissioner, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, said Ghana is at a pivotal moment, moving from reliance on primary commodities to a diversified, value-driven economy anchored in industrialisation and services exports.

Mr. Quansah pointed to Ghana’s shared time zone with the UK, strong English proficiency, and cultural compatibility as advantages for seamless nearshore delivery.

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, said Ghana aims to become Africa’s leading hub for outsourcing and digital services.

‘We are moving from potential to execution,’ he said, positioning digital services as key export drivers alongside traditional sectors.

Ghana’s strategy hinges on digitalising public services, productising exportable digital services, and leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area for access to a 1.5 billion-person market.

CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu, said the country has moved beyond promotion to implementation.

‘GDCL is the Government’s vehicle for infrastructure delivery, ecosystem development, and investor enablement, helping firms move from interest to operation,’ she said.

Madam Mavis Ampah Sintim Misa, Board Chair of the National Communications Authority, traced Ghana’s digital leap from under 10 percent mobile penetration and two percent internet access in the early 2000s with no submarine cable.

She said the country now has over 44 million mobile subscriptions and 30 million active data users, multiple submarine fibre cables, extensive terrestrial backbones, and a competitive telecom market now provide the digital backbone for large-scale outsourcing.

An industry leaders’ panel moderated by Joel Walker of The Knowledge Group featured executives from Concentrix Ghana, Teleperformance Ghana, eServices Africa, and Npontu Technologies.

Panelists affirmed Ghana is a proven, scalable outsourcing location already serving major international clients. They cited strong talent, rising technical capabilities, and a shift to higher-value, tech-driven services. AI was also flagged as a key enabler of hybrid delivery models.

CEO of ADEC Innovations, James Donovan, said Ghana was selected after a rigorous global evaluation. He called the country a compelling investment opportunity and a platform for long-term growth, citing talent, infrastructure, and ecosystem readiness.

BOSAG reaffirmed its commitment to accelerate sector growth, attract investment, and position Ghana as a preferred destination for global business services.

ART EDUCATOR, Rachelle Swan, has stated that Ghana’s rich, multifaceted approach to visual and cultural arts provides valuable insights into inclusivity and diversity.

She notes that by blending indigenous traditions with modern perspectives, Ghanaian art demonstrates that creativity takes many forms and challenges narrow, Western-centric definitions of art education.

Comparing art education in the US and Ghana, Ms. Swan said Ghanaian schools do a stronger job integrating art with culture and history. ‘Our artistic perspective in Ghana, I think you guys do a great job of incorporating history, incorporating this knowledge, incorporating different aspects of art.

‘In the States, we have a very limited definition of what art is and what our students think art can be. Here, dance is incorporated, currency is incorporated, and history is incorporated, different regions and tribes and language. I think they’re doing a great job already within their school systems with student engagement,’ she said.

Rachelle Swan, who is working on her project Africa in Art Education: Learning Through Ghana’s Artistic Perspective, noted that teaching art gives her more freedom to promote diversity and cross-cultural awareness than other subjects allow.

‘Just having the freedom to teach diversity, which we lack in a lot of other subjects in our school system, has greatly influenced me. Art gives us wiggle room to teach cross-cultural awareness and learn about different artists, backgrounds, and history that may be more restrained in other topics,’ she said.

For students, Rachelle Swan hopes the cross-cultural exchange teaches them to do more than just create art.

She made this known during a lecture at the American Embassy in Accra in commemoration of Freedom250.

Social media personality Nana Akua Appiah, popularly known as Highest Eri, has accused Tema West Member of Parliament (MP), James Enu, of abandoning constituents after winning the parliamentary elections, citing poor road conditions and lack of flood response.

Speaking on a podcast at KSS Studios titled The World of Members of Parliament, Highest Eri said she had been searching for the MP for weeks without success. ‘I am looking for my MP for Tema West, Honorable Lawyer James Enu. I’ve got a video which I’m going to post. I’ve been looking for him for about two weeks.

‘He’s nowhere to be found. I went to his office last week because he’s very close to me. I cannot find him,’ she said.

The media personality said the last time she saw Enu was during the election campaign. ‘You, in particular, you lost more than two times. So Tema West people thought, ‘Oh, let’s just change. Let’s bring you in. Maybe you will do something, have something better to offer Tema West.’ So we voted for you. You won. You came back to the same area: ‘Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you.’ That was last December, two years ago. I’ve not seen him since. When he needed the vote, he was in our faces,’ she said.

Highest Eri also criticised the state of roads in the constituency, saying poor infrastructure delayed access to the MP’s office. ‘From my junction to his office is like a two-minute drive, but because of the potholes, even from my house to his office, it takes 10 minutes because of the road,’ she stated.

She further accused the MP of being absent during recent floods that destroyed properties in Tema West. ‘I have not seen my Honorable. We are talking about MPs, and you are my MP. I am looking for you. We voted for you because it’s not everything we can take directly to the president,’ she added.

Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento has been ruled out of England’s World Cup campaign with a calf injury and has been replaced by Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Livramento, 23, sustained the injury during a training session on Sunday before England’s World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday (21:00 BST).

His involvement in the tournament had already been in doubt after he missed the final five weeks of the season with a thigh injury.

Chalobah, who has one cap, will not join up with the squad until after the Croatia match.

He is on his way to England’s camp in Kansas City as the rest of the squad head to Dallas.

Chalobah could feature in a behind-closed-doors game against MLS side Sporting Kansas City, which England are in talks to play between the match against Croatia and their next group fixture against Ghana next Tuesday.

Outfield players who sustain a serious injury or illness can be replaced in a World Cup squad up to 24 hours before the team’s first match of the tournament gets under way.

Livramento, who was handed his international debut under Gareth Southgate in November 2024, has featured five times during Tuchel’s reign, starting twice.

He came on at half-time during England’s 1-0 warm-up win over New Zealand but was left on the bench against Costa Rica.

A woman and her six-month-old baby have tragically lost their lives after drowning in an abandoned illegal mining (galamsey) pit at Bobeam in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on June 10, 2026, but came to light after residents recounted the tragedy to the media.

According to information gathered, the deceased woman, believed to be a native of northern Ghana, had relocated to Bobeam with her husband, Fuseini, to engage in farming activities.

Sources in the community disclosed that the woman had been left at home with her three children while her husband worked on their farm.

The deceased reportedly went to fetch water with her six-month-old child strapped to her back when she accidentally slipped and fell into an uncovered abandoned galamsey pit.

Her nine-year-old son, who witnessed the incident, immediately rushed to inform his father at the farm.

An eyewitness, Akua Boakyewaa, said the boy desperately ran to seek help, but by the time the father and some residents arrived at the scene, both the woman and her baby had drowned.

The tragic deaths have thrown the entire Bobeam community into a state of shock and mourning.

Residents blamed the incident on the numerous abandoned galamsey pits scattered across the area, describing them as death traps for women, children and farmers.

They have therefore appealed to the government, mining regulators and relevant authorities to take urgent steps to reclaim and cover abandoned mining pits to avert further loss of lives.

The incident once again highlights the growing dangers posed by illegal mining activities and the devastating consequences of uncovered pits left behind by operators.

Former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has secured a permanent United States residency following the decision of a US Immigration Court to grant him a ‘Green Card,’ his lawyers confirmed yesterday.

A statement issued by lawyers representing him in Ghana and signed by Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo said the US court heard evidence relating to actions taken by Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), ‘including the OSP’s earlier decision to declare Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice at a time when he was reportedly undergoing medical treatment in the United States and while his lawyers remained in communication with investigators in Ghana.’

The statement added that the US found the criminal charges in Ghana not credible. It however, pointed out that the court’s ruling was made within the context of a United States immigration proceedings, with focus on whether Mr. Ofori-Atta met the legal requirements for adjustment of status.

Multiple Accusations

Mr. Ofori-Atta is facing multiple allegations of corruption and related offences in Ghana for some decisions he took during his tenure as Minister of Finance under the Nana Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

The OSP has charged him and seven others over the revenue assurance contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), allegedly costing the nation over GHS1.4 billion ‘financial loss.’

The decision to grant him a permanent US residence strikes a big blow to efforts by the Office of the Special Prosecutor to extradite him to Ghana to stand trial.

Mr. Ofori-Atta travelled to the United States last year and became a centre of attention in Ghana and abroad following a decision by the OSP to declare him a wanted fugitive and later placing him on the Interpol Red Notice for allegedly refusing to return to Ghana to face the allegations made against him.

His lawyers in the US had been pursuing the possibility of securing a permanent residency for him after indicating that it became clear to them that their client may not be treated fairly if he returns to Ghana.

The former Finance Minister earlier spent some days in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention in Virginia, where he was held for overstaying his US visa.

He was later released from detention on April 27, 2026, ‘pursuant to judicial order,’ his lawyers disclosed, indicating that he was home with his family.

They added that Mr. Ofori-Atta remains ‘fully committed to use due process’ in defence of his rights as guaranteed under the constitution and laws of the United States.

OSP Determined

Despite the grant of permanent residency to Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP has declared its intention to pursue the extradition of the former minister to Ghana to stand trial for the crimes he is accused of.

The OSP, in a social media post, clarified that it is not involved in immigration hearings in the United States involving Mr. Ofori-Atta but rather in respect of extradition proceedings against the former minister through the Attorney General as the central authority.

‘The OSP states that the extradition packet is not before the immigration court; and the credibility or otherwise of the criminal charges against Mr. Ofori-Atta would be determined by the courts in Ghana, who have jurisdiction to determine his guilt or innocence,’ the OSP noted.

It added that Mr. Ofori-Atta still remains a citizen of Ghana and he is still amenable to be extradited to Ghana if so decided by the extradition court in the United States.

Trial In Absentia

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Davis Ansah Opoku, has indicated that a change in immigration status does not shield an individual from prosecution in Ghana, suggesting that Mr. Ofori-Atta can be tried in absentia in the face of the latest development.

‘Even a foreigner, somebody who is not even of a Ghanaian descent, when he commits a crime in our land, the person is punishable by Ghanaian laws. And so the fact that somebody has gone for American citizenship or has gone for a green card doesn’t mean that we cannot punish the person,’ he said on the sidelines of the 2026 Governance and Anti-Corruption Summit.

‘So, the bit about waiting for Ken Ofori-Atta to come before he is prosecuted, I find it a bit problematic because we can try him in absentia. Even in his absence, something can be done,’ the Mpraeso Member of Parliament added.

Actress Benedicta Gafah and Bishop Daniel Obinim’s ongoing public fight has taken a new twist after alleged WhatsApp conversations between the two surfaced online.

The screenshots currently circulating on social media are said to show an exchange between the actress and the founder of International Godsway Chapel. However, there is no independent confirmation that the messages are authentic, as the phone number in the screenshots was concealed.

The latest development comes after Benedicta publicly branded Obinim a ‘liar’ and a ‘disgusting’ person following claims by the controversial preacher that he had blocked her on social media.

Bishop Obinim had explained during a church sermon that he blocked the actress because of repeated controversies linking her romantically to him and causing tension involving his wife, Florence Obinim.

But Benedicta fired back, insisting she was the one who blocked the Bishop and warning that she could release old chats and audio recordings.

In one of the alleged leaked messages, a sender purported to be Benedicta appeared furious about being repeatedly mentioned in discussions involving the receiver purported to be Obinim.

‘Disrespectfully, tell your wife to keep my name out of her mouth. I’ve literally not spoken to you since before COVID,’ she allegedly wrote.

She further claimed that every conversation she had with Obinim in December was recorded.

‘I can be very respectful if I want to, and I can also be extremely disrespectful,’ the message continued.

Another part of the alleged chat showed sender accusing the receiver of previously criticising his wife’s appearance.

‘You were the one who said you had told her to stop whatever she keeps applying to her face and that she didn’t look good,’ she allegedly stated.

The screenshots also appeared to show an apologetic response from the receiver.

‘Afia, please calm down, okay. I have no intention of disrespecting you in any way,’ he replied.

‘I’m sorry if you are hurt or annoyed. Please forgive me. I don’t want any issues in Ghana. I have suffered enough, please.’

The leaked screenshots reportedly included some missed calls from the Obinim before the Benedicta eventually blocked the number.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted a teacher at the Bole Senior High School (SHS) in the Savannah Region over an alleged sexual misconduct.

A leaked sexual video went viral on social media involving the teacher and a student of Bole Senior High School.

A statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, GES, revealed that management has initiated investigations into the matter, and directed that the teacher be interdicted in accordance with GES rules and regulations.

Mr. Fenyi indicated that management strongly condemns all forms of amorous relationships between teachers and students.

He reiterated the Ghana Education Service’s zero-tolerance towards sexual misconduct, and cautioned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and conduct at all times.

Mr. Fenyi, however, noted that management remains committed to ensuring the safety, protection, and well-being of all students within the educational system.

‘Appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be taken against any individual found culpable,’ he stated.

He assured the public that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness.

Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Awentami Paul Afoko has indicated that the NPP has a unique shot at reclaiming power in 2028, driven by a new political landscape and the strength of its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking to regional executives, patrons, and elders of the party in the Volta, Oti, and Eastern regions, Mr. Afoko argued that 2028 will be different because ‘the one person who has been on the ballot paper for several elections will not be on the ballot paper.’

That absence, he said, gives the NPP space to properly market Dr. Bawumia, who he described as a ‘formidable force to reckon with’ and ‘battle-tested and ready to win.’

He drew parallels to 2016, when the NPP unseated a sitting government. ‘We had to put a plan in place to make sure we come to power and we came to power. This time around, he will not be on the ballot paper and this offers us a unique opportunity,’ he said. But unity is non-negotiable, he warned. ‘Without unity we will not get there.’

He cautioned members against letting personal grievances derail the party’s goal. ‘You can’t sit here and look at the lady sitting next to you and say I don’t like her so we can’t work together. We are working together for power, and if we let emotions get in the way, we lose.’

Mr. Afoko is pushing a 3R Agenda: Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture power. He said the party must adopt a clear message to win back Ghanaians’ confidence, and believes Dr. Bawumia is ‘the right candidate’ to guarantee victory in 2028.

‘For years, I chose to work quietly behind the scenes, supporting the NPP in private,’ Afoko said. ‘But recent developments have compelled me to step forward. We need to get our party back into winning ways, and that starts with unity of purpose.’

He framed the period ahead as a test of whether NPP politics will mature or stay trapped in cycles of blame. Still, he expressed optimism that ‘everyone who loves the party would come on board to realise the goal of making Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the next President of Ghana.’
