The Atwima Mponua District Assembly (AMDA) has dismissed as false and misleading claims that District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment allocated to the district has been removed or is not being used for official purposes.

The claims, contained in a flyer and a video interview granted by the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Seth Osei Akoto, and circulated on social media platforms linked to Oyerepa FM, have attracted public attention in recent days.

In a statement issued by the Assembly, it stressed that the assertions do not reflect the situation on the ground, insisting that all DRIP equipment remains within the district and is being deployed for approved Assembly activities.

The Assembly disclosed that the equipment was recently used during a district clean-up exercise at Mmofranfaadwen to support sanitation and environmental health operations. It added that in August this year, the same machinery was deployed to Tanodumase to rehabilitate roads ahead of a week-long celebration held in memory of the late mother of the MP’s predecessor, Isaac Kwame Asiamah.

AMDA further indicated that just two days before the circulation of the flyer and interview, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Isshaq Ibrahim, had officially announced the deployment of DRIP machinery for clearing refuse dumps in selected communities across the district.

According to the Assembly, video evidence showing a bulldozer in action clearly confirms the presence and utilisation of the equipment.

The Assembly also confirmed that the full complement of DRIP equipment is currently parked at the forecourt of the Atwima Mponua District Assembly and is available for use at all times when required.

Describing the comments attributed to the MP as unfortunate, the Assembly noted that the circulation of unverified claims has the potential to misinform the public and undermine ongoing development and service delivery efforts.

The Atwima Mponua District Assembly therefore called on residents to disregard the claims and rather rely on information from its official communication channels, assuring the public of its commitment to transparency, accountability and the responsible use of government resources.

A philanthropic group known as Friends of Love, based at Nsima in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has donated assorted items to the Beads of Life Foundation, formerly the Beads of Life Orphanage, at New Koforidua in the Juaben Municipality.

The donation comprised four bags of rice, fruits, assorted soft drinks, toiletries, detergent, soaps, four boxes of mackerel sardines, second-hand clothing, cooking oil, sandals, shoes, biscuits, and other items.

Presenting the items, the spokesperson of the group, Madam Afua Pokuaa, said the gesture was intended to bring joy to the children and demonstrate love to the underprivileged, especially during the Christmas season.

She expressed gratitude to the group’s patron, Anthony Baffour Awuah, for his support and revealed that members of the group made financial contributions towards the donation.

‘Christmas is a season of love, and as parents, we felt it was important to also come here to feed and clothe these children, as the Bible teaches that there is more blessing in giving than in receiving,’ she stated.

One of the leaders of the group, Ama Tweneboah, commended the management of the foundation for the care and dedication shown to the children and pledged the group’s continued support to the home.

Another leader, Georgina Osei, appealed to corporate bodies and philanthropists to come to the aid of the children, noting that the visit was aimed at showing love and compassion.

Receiving the items, the father of the house, Addo Collins, expressed appreciation to Friends of Love for the kind gesture and prayed for God’s blessings upon them. He also encouraged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the group’s example.

Special prayers were later offered for the group by one of the inmates, asking for God’s guidance, protection, and prosperity in their endeavours.

Newborn mothers in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis who received this year’s baby hampers from MTN Ghana have praised the telecommunication company for the annual tremendous support.

MTN Ghana has been donating hampers to new born mothers in some selected health facilities in the metropolis every year to show love during Christmas festivities.

This year, the company donated 40 hampers to babies born on Christmas Day and their mothers at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital and the Essikado Hospital, all within the metropolis.

The gesture formed part of MTN Ghana’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Each hamper was packaged with essential baby items such as diapers, toiletries, feeding bottles and toys to support mothers during the critical early days.

Speaking to journalists later, the Corporate Services Advisor for MTN Ghana’s South-West Business District, Kennedy Ofosuhene, explained that the initiative was aimed at welcoming the Christmas babies and easing the burden on their families.

‘This initiative began in 2011 and has been sustained over the years because of the impact it continues to make,’ he said.

‘ Beyond welcoming the babies, it is our way of deepening and strengthening our relationship with the communities we serve,’ he pointed out.

Mr. Ofosuhene noted that the beneficiaries were selected from mothers who were still admitted at the time of MTN’s visit to the hospitals.

He explained that the experiences from previous years, including encounters with mothers who arrived at health facilities without basic baby items, have reinforced the importance of the programme.

‘Sometimes, you meet mothers who have absolutely nothing. When we present these items, you can see the relief and happiness on their faces, and that alone motivates us to continue,’ he added.

A Senior Midwife at the Essikado Hospital, Veronica Inkoom, said the hampers would go a long way in supporting the mothers and reducing some of the financial pressures associated with childbirth.

She appealed to MTN Ghana to support the health facility construct an additional maternity block to help manage the increasing number of expectant mothers who visit the facility.

‘During peak delivery periods, space becomes a challenge, and we are sometimes forced to refer expectant mothers elsewhere’.

‘An additional maternity block would help us cater for more mothers and ease the pressure on the existing one,’ she indicated.

Three out of six suspected armed robbers involved in the recent robbery incident in Ashiaman have succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining three suspects, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, managed to flee the scene.

This follows the Tema Regional Police Command’s successful foiling of an attempted robbery at Community 24 within the Adjei-Kojo District in the Ashaiman Division of the Tema Region.

According to a police report, the robbery incident occurred on Sunday, December 21st, 2025, at about 1:30 a.m. at a private residence within the Community 24 vicinity.

The police said they acted promptly on intelligence and a police team moved to the scene to intervene.

‘Upon arrival, the police encountered six young men, all wearing face masks and hoodies, and armed with machetes, guns, and other offensive weapons. The suspects opened fire on the police, who returned fire. During the exchange of gunfire, three of the suspects were fatally wounded and later succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining three suspects, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, managed to flee the scene,’ part of the statement read.

The police said they have retrieved three face masks, three machetes, and one unregistered Royal 125 motorbike.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased suspects have been conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Grace Akosua Amoabeng, has emphasized that her party has the mandate to scrutinize the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) report presented to President John Dramani Mahama, outlining extensive proposals for amendments to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

Speaking on GHOne Morning Show, Akosua Amoabeng stated that despite some agitation by members of the ruling party suggesting that it is needless for the NPP to scrutinize the report, she holds the view that it is relevant for the party to identify some anomalies in the report.

‘Even in the NDC, some do not agree to the five-year term. Now the final thing is out. So it’s right for the party to set up a committee to also look at the proposal critically, to see if there is something that has been taken out or added.

So I don’t think it’s just to make noise – we as a party are even waiting for them (NDC) to tell us what their stand is as a party, so that we all work together as one.’

The Constitution Review Committee (CRC), chaired by Prof. Henry Kwasi Prempeh, presented its final report to President Mahama, outlining major recommendations including a proposal to shift the date for presidential elections from December to November.

According to the Committee, this change is intended to provide more time for a smoother transition between administrations. The shift would extend the transition period from one month to two months, allowing for what the CRC describes as a more structured handover process.

The Committee also proposed substantive changes to the Council of State. It recommends reforms that would realign the Council’s structure and functioning with the original intent behind its creation, aimed at enhancing accountability and improving its advisory role to the government.

Another key recommendation is the extension of the presidential term from four years to five years. The CRC argues that a longer term would strengthen policy continuity and provide government with a better opportunity to deliver on its development agenda.

The Committee further recommended that the minimum age requirement for presidential candidates be reduced from 40 to 30 years, describing the current age limit as unnecessarily restrictive.

FIFA has confirmed a 23-member list of Ghanaian referees cleared to officiate international competitions in the 2026 calendar year, reaffirming the country’s growing presence in global match officiating.

The approved contingent is made up of 10 Centre Referees, 10 Assistant Referees, one Futsal Referee, one Beach Soccer Referee and one Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Veteran official Daniel Laryea headlines the list, earning recognition in a dual capacity as both a Centre Referee and a VAR, underlining his continued standing within FIFA’s refereeing ranks.

Among the notable inclusions are Richard Kwaku, who earns his place as a newly approved assistant referee, and Portia Oppong, who has been selected to officiate in Beach Soccer competitions.

As required by FIFA regulations, Member Associations must submit annual nominations for new referees or request renewals for existing officials on the international list. In Ghana, this process is managed by the Referees Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which vets nominees to ensure they meet FIFA’s stringent eligibility requirements.

These include successfully completing FIFA-approved fitness tests and medical examinations.

Following internal evaluations, the GFA forwards the nominations to FIFA for final approval. The world governing body retains the authority to reject any nominee who fails to satisfy its standards.

Referees approved for 2026 are authorised to wear the FIFA badge from January to December of the year. Continued inclusion on the international list beyond 2026 will depend on individual performance, while the FIFA badge remains the property of FIFA throughout the period of accreditation.

Three suspected armed robbers were killed on Christmas Eve following a fierce shootout with police operatives in a bush along the Anwiankwanta-Jacobu Junction road in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased were said to be part of a five-member robbery gang that allegedly opened fire on police officers during an intelligence-led operation, forcing the police to respond. Two other members of the gang escaped and are currently on the run.

According to a police situational report (SITREP) the Ashanti Regional Police Command received credible intelligence on December 24, 2025, that the gang had assembled in a bush between Anwiankwanta and Jacobu Junction, allegedly planning to attack road users on the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi highway.

A police team, supported by four service vehicles, was swiftly dispatched to the area. Upon reaching the hideout, officers encountered five armed young men. The suspects reportedly fired at the police while attempting to flee through the bush, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

During the confrontation, three suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. They were later identified as Seidu Issah, 29; Musah Yakubu, 35; and Yahaya Munkaila, also known as Tijani, 25. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The police report indicated that the deceased, together with their accomplices, were wanted in connection with several robbery attacks and killings in Manso, Jacobu and Anwiankwanta and its surrounding communities.

Exhibits retrieved from the scene included two pump-action guns loaded with six rounds of ammunition each, an unbranded pistol, as well as a sack containing 25 live cartridges and six spent shells.

Police say investigations have commenced, while efforts are being intensified to track down the two escaped suspects and recover any additional firearms in their possession.

Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd. (ECG), have intensified their protests again government’s plan to privatise the operations of the Company.

Workers Union of TUC (PUWU-TUC) in its latest protest has hoisted red flags across all operational offices of the Company to express its strong opposition to government’s intention to appoint a transaction advisor for the transition of ECG into Private Sector Participation (PSP).

This action follows an earlier press release from PUWU-TUC, in which it revealed that it is currently leading an ongoing turnaround programme with the Ministry of Energy, Management and Workers of ECG.This programme, according to PUWU-TUC, is the

outcome of direct engagements with the Minister of Energy.

Speaking to the media, the General Secretary for PUWU-TUC, Timothy Nyame noted that the hoisting of red flags signifies the beginning of a series of staff actions planned to insist on PUWU’s position that ECG can be revived through internal reforms rather thanprivatisation.

He revealed that in fulfilment of the turn-around programme, ECG workers have demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment, discipline, and dedication.

‘These commitments have resulted in a record 90% improvement in revenue; drastic reduction of

system losses and stable power supply for the benefit of Ghanaians,’ he pointed out.

Mr. Nyame expressed PUWU-TUC’s deep concerns over the appointment of a Special Adviser, describing it as a premature and rushed decision.

‘We see the move for this appointment as a move influenced by external interests seeking to take control of a strategic national asset for the benefit of a few individuals, rather than the interest of Ghanaians’, he added.PUWU-TUC is urging government to immediately halt all actions toward privatisation, allow the turnaround programme agreed with the Ministry of Energy, Management and Workers of ECG to run its full course and the outcomes of this programme should be

evaluated and streamlined to agree with national policy in energy distribution in Ghana.

A 42-year-old man, Kwame Amo, has been stabbed in the rib during a violent confrontation at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, at about 11:00 a.m., following a long-standing dispute between the victim and the suspect. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been officially confirmed, is believed to be a galamsey operator in the area and reportedly hails from the Volta Region.

According to a report by Nana Nkansah, a local correspondent for Kumasi-based Angel 96.1 FM, the disagreement escalated into a fierce altercation, during which the suspect allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed Kwame Amo in the rib.

The victim bled profusely and was initially rushed to the Frimpong Boateng Medical Centre at Toase for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to the Emergency Ward of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for further management.

The suspect attempted to escape after the attack but was arrested by some residents. Police officers from the Nkawie Divisional Command arrived promptly and rescued the suspect from an angry mob that had gathered at the scene.

The suspect has since been placed in police custody to assist with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court.Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Sametro Group of Companies, operators of Space FM, has distributed essential food items including bags of rice and bottles of cooking oil, among others to widows in Tarkwa in the Western Region to mark the Christmas season.

Speaking to about 250 beneficiaries at an event held in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, Chief Executive Officer of the Sametro Group, Dr. Samuel Etroo said the gesture was in fulfilment of God’s commandment as enjoined by the Scriptures.

He said the annual event, which has continuously supported scores of widows in the municipality, is aimed at helping the less privileged, especially widows who need to be remembered during the festive season.

Dr. Etroo, who cited some verses from the Scriptures, also indicated that the gesture emphasized the need for people to reflect and emulate God’s love not only through words but also through deeds, by extending a helping hand to people in vulnerable situations, particularly during the Christmas season.

‘This idea was birthed from the biblical directive in 1 Timothy 5:3 to honour widows. We bring them together not only for material support but for spiritual growth and communal bonding’.

‘It’s about touching the heart and the soul. This season is about the gift of God’s love, and we wanted to share that truth tangibly.’ he stated

The beneficiaries prayed for God’s blessings for the management of the company and also thanked them for the gesture, which, according to them, will not only sustain them during the festive season but also serve as a testament to the company’s contribution in responding to the needs of people in the area.
