Drama At Mortuary

Drama unfolded at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue in Sekondi when mortuary attendants allegedly rejected a purported decomposed corpse last Friday.

The body was that of a male resident of Nkontompo near Sekondi, called Uncle Kofi, popularly known as ‘Alright’.

The decomposed body was discovered in his room. The discovery was prompted by a foul odor that had permeated the area.

Initially, residents thought it was the stench of a rotten animal until they discovered the decomposing body of Uncle Kofi in his room.

The deceased’s landlord, Samuel Kwofie, and some members of the Nkontompo Electoral Area Unit Committee, immediately notified the police.

While waiting for the police, some residents in the area decided to transport the remains of the deceased to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue, probably because of the stench.

However, the mortuary attendants refused to accept the body.

The rejection of the decomposed corpse by mortuary attendants sparked outrage among some youth of Nkontompo.

The body was later returned to the Nkontompo community, with the overpowering smell.

According to sources, the body sat in the open until the police returned with a team from the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Environmental Health Office, who finally conveyed the body back to the morgue for proper storage.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Christian Baidoo, explained that the remains were not prepared according to standard protocol before it was conveyed to the hospital’s morgue.

‘The community ought to have involved the environmental health officers from the onset to properly handle the decomposed body before bringing it to the mortuary,’ he explained further.

Samini Advises Artistes To Buy Land

Renowned Dancehall singer, Samini, has called on fellow acts to redirect their investment in the purchase of luxury cars to buying of lands, to secure their future.

Speaking on Hitz FM on Tuesday, November 12, Samini revealed that one of the best financial decisions he made early in his career was investing in land when his income started growing.

Sharing his experience, Samini said that as a young artiste in his early twenties, he initially spent his earnings on flashy cars until an older mentor, whom he described as an ‘elder Rasta,’ cautioned him about the importance of long-term investments.

‘Anytime I went to see the old man, I was in a different car, and he told me, ‘My youth, you secure. Cars depreciate, but land appreciates,” Samini recounted.

‘You can buy a car today and in ten years it’s worth less, but buy land today and in ten years it could increase a hundredfold.’

He reiterated his advise to upcoming musicians to balance their desire for flashy lifestyles with smart financial planning. While acknowledging that appearance and image are part of an artiste’s brand, he stressed the need for moderation and foresight.

‘Some of the flashy things are good for your branding, but do them in moderation,’ he advised.

‘If you have extra money and don’t know what to do with it, buy land. You’d be surprised how much it appreciates over time,’ he stressed.

Samini added that unlike cars and other short-term assets, land ownership guarantees future stability and growth.

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwesimintsim in the Western Region, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, is poised to continue with his projects which were geared towards improving the standard of education in the area.

One of such educational infrastructure is an ultramodern kindergarten (KG) block with ancillary facilities for Adentem-Mpatado community in the constituency.

The facility was commissioned recently and it is currently in active use.

The former MP noted that the move was part of his commitment to improving educational infrastructure and learning outcomes in the Kwesimintsim constituency,

He noted that the twin community, Adientem-Mpatado, which had never benefited from a public basic school, now boasts of the ultramodern KG block.

Police Arrest Two Murder Suspects

The Manso Nkwanta District Police Command in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region has arrested two individuals suspected to be linked to the death of 28-year-old Yaw Asamoah at Abrense, a farming community in the Atobiase Electoral Area.

The incident, which occurred during a funeral wake-keeping over the weekend, has plunged residents into grief and shock.

Information gathered indicate that the deceased was involved in a heated exchange with some commercial sex workers at a popular drinking spot known as K.K. Spot, after he realised that his GHS1,000 had gone missing.

Eyewitnesses said the argument turned violent after Asamoah accused one of the women of theft and demanded his money back. The confrontation drew a crowd, but the situation eventually calmed down. However, the young man went missing later that night.

Two days later, his body was found in an abandoned mining pit on the outskirts of the community.

The Assembly Member for the Atobiase Electoral Area, Samuel Yeboah, described the incident as deeply disturbing.

‘Yaw was a decent young man and did not deserve to die in such a manner. The community is in pain and we are calling on the police to ensure that those involved face the law,’ he said.

A brother of the deceased, speaking amid tears, also appealed for justice, saying the family was heartbroken and struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Police sources confirmed that two suspects have been arrested and are assisting in investigations. Statements have been taken from eyewitnesses as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding Asamoah’s death.

The Manso Nkwanta Police Command assured the public that a thorough probe is underway and that justice will not be compromised.

‘We are committed to finding the truth and ensuring that those responsible are dealt with according to the law,’ a police spokesperson stated.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy as investigations continue.

The shocking development has reignited public concern over increasing insecurity and illegal activities in parts of the Amansie West District, with residents urging the police to intensify patrols and maintain a stronger presence in the area.

Kotoko Extend Unbeaten Run With Stalemate Against Vision FC

Asante Kotoko extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League following a hard-fought goalless draw against Vision FC in an outstanding fixture at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema on Wednesday.

Fresh from their 1-0 triumph over rivals Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash, the Porcupine Warriors entered the midweek encounter aiming to build momentum. However, despite a spirited display, they were held by a resilient Vision FC side in an entertaining yet goalless affair.

’Nkoko Nketenkete’ Starts With 3m Birds

PRESIDENT JOHN Mahama has officially launched the ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ Household and Backyard Poultry Production Initiative, which seeks to boost local poultry production and reduce importation of chicken.

Speaking at the launch in Kumasi, President Mahama expressed concern over the huge amount of money used to import chicken annually, stressing that this new policy would help curb it.

He disclosed that in ‘2023, the country spent $350 million to import chicken’, saying the country’s over dependence on imported chicken to feed the citizenry, is rapidly draining the national coffers.

Giving statistics, he said currently, ‘only 12 percent of chicken that are consumed by Ghanaians is produced locally’, adding that the government is targeting to increase it to 75 percent by 2028.

Project Details

As part of the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, a total of 3 million vaccinated birds, would be distributed freely, with each constituency receiving 10,000 birds with feeds for rearing for profit.

In all, 60,000 households in the country have been selected to get the free birds for rearing, with each house getting 50 birds. The programme has already been piloted in 13 districts with 13,000 beneficiaries.

President Mahama therefore appealed to the citizenry to support the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, which is part of the poultry industry revitilisation programme, and also patronise chicken that are reared locally to help boost the local economy.

The President announced that plans are in the pipeline for the construction of a modern poultry processing factory in Bechem in the Bono Region, indicating that his government is indeed committed to helping to revive the local poultry industry.

Minister of Agriculture, Eric Opoku, said, ‘Backyard poultry, globally, has been accepted as a major tool for poverty alleviation, women empowerment and national food security.’

He thus appealed to Ghanaians to support the policy by purchasing local chicken, saying ‘We are feeding Ghana so you should also eat Ghana’, noting that everyone should be ambassador for the policy since it’s has the potential of boosting the local poultry industry.’
