Police Arrest Two Murder Suspects

The Manso Nkwanta District Police Command in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region has arrested two individuals suspected to be linked to the death of 28-year-old Yaw Asamoah at Abrense, a farming community in the Atobiase Electoral Area.

The incident, which occurred during a funeral wake-keeping over the weekend, has plunged residents into grief and shock.

Information gathered indicate that the deceased was involved in a heated exchange with some commercial sex workers at a popular drinking spot known as K.K. Spot, after he realised that his GHS1,000 had gone missing.

Eyewitnesses said the argument turned violent after Asamoah accused one of the women of theft and demanded his money back. The confrontation drew a crowd, but the situation eventually calmed down. However, the young man went missing later that night.

Two days later, his body was found in an abandoned mining pit on the outskirts of the community.

The Assembly Member for the Atobiase Electoral Area, Samuel Yeboah, described the incident as deeply disturbing.

‘Yaw was a decent young man and did not deserve to die in such a manner. The community is in pain and we are calling on the police to ensure that those involved face the law,’ he said.

A brother of the deceased, speaking amid tears, also appealed for justice, saying the family was heartbroken and struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Police sources confirmed that two suspects have been arrested and are assisting in investigations. Statements have been taken from eyewitnesses as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding Asamoah’s death.

The Manso Nkwanta Police Command assured the public that a thorough probe is underway and that justice will not be compromised.

‘We are committed to finding the truth and ensuring that those responsible are dealt with according to the law,’ a police spokesperson stated.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy as investigations continue.

The shocking development has reignited public concern over increasing insecurity and illegal activities in parts of the Amansie West District, with residents urging the police to intensify patrols and maintain a stronger presence in the area.

Kotoko Extend Unbeaten Run With Stalemate Against Vision FC

Asante Kotoko extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League following a hard-fought goalless draw against Vision FC in an outstanding fixture at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema on Wednesday.

Fresh from their 1-0 triumph over rivals Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash, the Porcupine Warriors entered the midweek encounter aiming to build momentum. However, despite a spirited display, they were held by a resilient Vision FC side in an entertaining yet goalless affair.

Both teams created promising chances but failed to find the breakthrough. The draw means Kotoko maintain their steady rise in form, having now gone six matches unbeaten in the league.

The result lifts Asante Kotoko to 7th place on the table with 15 points, and they still have two outstanding fixtures to play, a home clash against Young Apostles on November 19, followed by a trip to face Basake Holy Stars on November 26.

Vision FC remain 10th with 12 points from nine matches, continuing their fine start to life in the top flight as they seek greater consistency in the coming weeks.

’Nkoko Nketenkete’ Starts With 3m Birds

PRESIDENT JOHN Mahama has officially launched the ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ Household and Backyard Poultry Production Initiative, which seeks to boost local poultry production and reduce importation of chicken.

Speaking at the launch in Kumasi, President Mahama expressed concern over the huge amount of money used to import chicken annually, stressing that this new policy would help curb it.

He disclosed that in ‘2023, the country spent $350 million to import chicken’, saying the country’s over dependence on imported chicken to feed the citizenry, is rapidly draining the national coffers.

Giving statistics, he said currently, ‘only 12 percent of chicken that are consumed by Ghanaians is produced locally’, adding that the government is targeting to increase it to 75 percent by 2028.

Project Details

As part of the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, a total of 3 million vaccinated birds, would be distributed freely, with each constituency receiving 10,000 birds with feeds for rearing for profit.

In all, 60,000 households in the country have been selected to get the free birds for rearing, with each house getting 50 birds. The programme has already been piloted in 13 districts with 13,000 beneficiaries.

President Mahama therefore appealed to the citizenry to support the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, which is part of the poultry industry revitilisation programme, and also patronise chicken that are reared locally to help boost the local economy.

The President announced that plans are in the pipeline for the construction of a modern poultry processing factory in Bechem in the Bono Region, indicating that his government is indeed committed to helping to revive the local poultry industry.

Minister of Agriculture, Eric Opoku, said, ‘Backyard poultry, globally, has been accepted as a major tool for poverty alleviation, women empowerment and national food security.’

He thus appealed to Ghanaians to support the policy by purchasing local chicken, saying ‘We are feeding Ghana so you should also eat Ghana’, noting that everyone should be ambassador for the policy since it’s has the potential of boosting the local poultry industry.’

Samini Advises Artistes To Buy Land

Renowned Dancehall singer, Samini, has called on fellow acts to redirect their investment in the purchase of luxury cars to buying of lands, to secure their future.

Speaking on Hitz FM on Tuesday, November 12, Samini revealed that one of the best financial decisions he made early in his career was investing in land when his income started growing.

Sharing his experience, Samini said that as a young artiste in his early twenties, he initially spent his earnings on flashy cars until an older mentor, whom he described as an ‘elder Rasta,’ cautioned him about the importance of long-term investments.

‘Anytime I went to see the old man, I was in a different car, and he told me, ‘My youth, you secure. Cars depreciate, but land appreciates,” Samini recounted.

‘You can buy a car today and in ten years it’s worth less, but buy land today and in ten years it could increase a hundredfold.’

He reiterated his advise to upcoming musicians to balance their desire for flashy lifestyles with smart financial planning. While acknowledging that appearance and image are part of an artiste’s brand, he stressed the need for moderation and foresight.

‘Some of the flashy things are good for your branding, but do them in moderation,’ he advised.

‘If you have extra money and don’t know what to do with it, buy land. You’d be surprised how much it appreciates over time,’ he stressed.

Samini added that unlike cars and other short-term assets, land ownership guarantees future stability and growth.

Nana Attends Angola’s 50th Indece Anniversary

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo was in Luanda, Angola, to participate in the celebration of its 50th independence anniversary.

Angola gained independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975, ending centuries of colonial rule.

As part of the anniversary, the Angolan government hosted a major national ceremony which was attended by several dignitaries and leaders from various parts of the world, including West Africa.

In a post shared on social media, former President Akufo-Addo, who travelled as a special guest for the occasion, thanked the government of Angola for the hospitality while extending best wishes to the people of Angola.

‘I am in Luanda, Angola, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Angola, H.E. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, to participate in the ceremony marking the 50th Anniversary of Angolan Independence.

‘I extend my best wishes to the Government and the friendly people of Angola and thank them for the warm hospitality extended to me. Long Live Angola, Long live Ghana-Angola Relations,’ former President Akufo- Addo wrote.

Angolan independence took place in dramatic circumstances, with the nationalist forces of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) engaging in a civil war that lasted close to three decades.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssoufalso, congratulated the government and people of the Republic of Angola on the occasion of its independence anniversary, describing the golden jubilee as a moment of pride for all Africans.

The anniversary celebrations reflect the nation’s achievements and ongoing challenges as it moves forward.

Govt Withdraws Over GHS1.4bn From DACF Account – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has accused the Ministry of Finance and the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) of unlawfully withdrawing and blocking funds belonging to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), describing the act as a blatant violation of the Constitution and a betrayal of public trust.

Addressing a press conference in Parliament yesterday, Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, alleged that the two state institutions had ‘swept’ over GHS1.4 billion from the DACF account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG), funds meant for development projects across the country’s local assemblies.

According to him, the withdrawals and account blockages were carried out in a pattern that began earlier this year, involving several sums of money, including GHS1.4 billion and GHS11.3 million, taken from the Fund’s account between February and April. ‘After several complaints, they brought back the GHS1.4 billion, but as we speak, the GHS11.3 million is still outstanding,’ he said.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh further disclosed that on November 4, 2025, the Controller released the third-quarter DACF allocation into the account, but within a week, the account was blocked.

‘Then on the 12th, they swept the account,’ he stated, adding that this amounted to ‘paying with one hand and taking with the other.’

The MP described the act as ‘unconstitutional and deceptive,’ citing the Supreme Court ruling in the Kpodo case, which held that once constitutional funds are released, they cannot be redirected or withheld by the Ministry of Finance or the Controller.

‘The Constitution is clear. These are constitutional payments. Neither the Controller nor the Minister has the right to block or sweep them,’ he emphasised.

He also warned that the situation could damage Ghana’s credibility with international partners, as the DACF account at the Bank of Ghana reportedly receives foreign grants from Switzerland’s Economic Cooperation and Germany’s KfW for specific projects at the local level.

‘These are funds released for prior-agreed purposes. Diverting them could lead to the withdrawal of international cooperation,’ he cautioned.

The Minority Chief Whip accused the government of micromanaging constitutional funds for political or fiscal convenience, calling it an ‘insult to the intelligence of the Ghanaian people.’

He said the alleged act undermines decentralisation and cripples the operations of District Assemblies, Members of Parliament (MPs), and contractors awaiting payment for completed projects.

‘What this means is that Assemblies are being denied the oxygen they need to function. Development projects are stalled, and contractors are left unpaid,’ he lamented.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh disclosed that the Minority would raise the matter formally on the floor of Parliament under Order 93(1) as a matter of urgent public importance if the government fails to resolve it.

He further challenged the Ministry of Finance and the Controller to refute the allegations if they have contrary evidence, promising to release official correspondence to substantiate his claims if necessary.

He appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene, restore the funds, and ensure adherence to constitutional provisions. ‘We need sanity. We need to respect the Constitution. This illegality must stop,’ he said.
