Daddy Lumba Funeral Dispute Lands At Manhyia Palace

The family of the late music legend, Daddy Lumba, has appeared before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace over the dispute that has stalled the singer’s funeral arrangements.

The misunderstanding, which has divided the family, arose after Akosua Brempomaa, a sister of the deceased, invoked the Sacred Oath (Ntamkese) to suspend the funeral, insisting that the real cause of her brother’s death be investigated.

The matter was heard behind closed doors by Otumfuo, the Saamanhene, and other elders of the Asanteman Traditional Council.

Speaking after the meeting, Akosua Brempomaa revealed that the chiefs had directed both sides of the family to resolve the issue peacefully and return to the Palace by Friday with their final report.

‘The chiefs have asked us to handle the matter in a civil manner and bring the outcome on Friday. We are ready to cooperate,’ she said.

The family head, Kofi Owusu, refused to comment, describing the issue as a family matter under traditional consideration.

A source close to the Palace disclosed that the formal processes for the Otumfuo Ntamkese will be outlined once the family submits its resolution report.

Per Asante custom, the funeral of the celebrated highlife icon will remain on hold until a final decision is made by the Manhyia Palace on the Sacred Oath.

The case is expected to be revisited on Friday, where a conclusive determination will be made by the chiefs.

Immigration Officers Shot… One Dead, One Injured

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed that two of its officers were attacked, one fatally, by yet to be identified and apprehended persons at Nangani in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

According to a statement released by the GIS’ Public Affairs Director, DCI Maud Anima Quainoo, the two officers were shot last Sunday at about 2030hrs when they were returning from duty on a motorbike.

The assailants laid ambush and opened fire on the unsuspecting officers, according to the statement.

The two, Assistant Immigration Control Officer (AICO I) Philip Lartey and AICO I Cosmos Dakurah sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the Basonde Clinic in Tempane before being transferred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where AICO I Cosmos Dakurah succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of November 3, 2025.

The GIS is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service in ongoing investigations into the incident.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), have deployed a team from the National Headquarters to the Upper East Region to support investigations and reassure officers following the incident.

‘The CGI and Management offers its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, and friends of the fallen officer during this challenging time,’ the statement added.

The GIS has commended the bravery and dedication of its officers, and condemned in the strongest terms, any act of violence directed against its personnel, ‘who serve with dedication to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity, thereby contributing to national security.’

The Service has also reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of its officers, and pledges to collaborate closely with the appropriate authorities to ensure that those responsible for the heinous crime are brought to justice.

NPA Extortion Case: OSP Freezes Over GHS100m Assets

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has seized and frozen more GHS100 million and $100,000 worth of assets, as part of ongoing trial initiated against former Chief Executive Officer of National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and nine (9) others.

According to the OSP, additional assets are under active tracing, pointing out that these actions are based on strong documentary, banking, and transaction evidence linking the proceeds to the alleged offences.

A statement issued by the OSP yesterday indicated that this case represents a major step in protecting public funds, ensuring accountability in the petroleum sector, and affirming that no public official is above the law.

‘The seriousness of the charges and the scale of the alleged losses make this prosecution a critical test of Ghana’s commitment to fighting corruption,’ the statement added.

The OSP was reacting to a widely circulated video on social media which captured Dr. Abdul-Hamid referring to his trial as ‘useless.’

The Office has slapped Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and nine (9) others with 54 criminal charges, accusing them of extorting a total of GHS291.574 million and $332,407.47 from bulk oil transporters and oil distributors.

The ten – seven (7) individuals and three companies were initially charged with 25 counts of charges, including extortion by a public officer, conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering.

The individuals are Jacob Kwamina Amuah, Coordinator of the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) at NPA; Wendy Newman, a staff of NPA; Albert Ankrah, Isaac Mensah, all Directors of Kel Logistics Limited; Bright Bediako-Mensah, Director of Kel Logistics Limited and Kings Energy Limited as well as Kwaku Aboagye Acquaah, Director of Kings Energy Limited.

The three companies caught in the OSP’s alleged corruption and extortion web are Propnest Limited, Kel Logistics Limited and Kings Energy Limited.

The OSP says one suspect identified as Osei Tutu Adjei, a Director of Kel Logistics Limited, is currently at large.

Brief Facts

The OSP says the charges stem from investigations initiated by it in late 2024 into alleged unlawful conduct involving the diversion of public funds and collusion with oil marketing and bulk distribution companies.

The summary of facts indicate that investigations by the OSP show that between 2022 and December 2024, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Jacob Kwamina Amuah and Wendy Newman under the colour of their office as officers of NPA, set up an extortionate scheme by which they unlawfully obtained GHS291,574,087.19 and $332,407.47 from bulk oil transporters and oil marketing companies, which they knew they were not lawfully authorised to obtain.

It says the scheme was contrived by Abdul-Hamid, who sold the idea of the alleged criminal adventure to Amuah, who also recruited Newman as the primary conduit for receiving the proceeds of the crime.

The fact claims a total of GHS24 million was handed directly by Amuah to Abdul-Hamid between January 2024 and December 2024 – ‘being proceeds of the criminal extortion scheme.’

The brief fact further points out that within the same period, Abdul-Hamid also directly received GHS230,000 from one oil haulage company.

Of the total amount received by the three, a sum GHS227,232,323.58 and $17,207.47 were paid through Newman, who disbursed it at the instruction of Amuah, the fact further alleged.

The investigations further revealed that Ankrah, Mensah, Bediako-Mensah and Acquah together with Osei Tutu Adjei, with the complicity of the accused persons, established and ran Propnest, Kel and Kings Energy ‘by which they proceeded to unlawfully launder the proceeds of the criminal adventure.’

This, the OSP claims, was done ‘through various transfers for the acquisition of movable and immovable property for the purpose of concealing or disguising the illicit origin of the proceeds of the criminal enterprise and to evade the legal consequences of the unlawful activity.’

The brief fact added that Amuah and Newman transferred various sums of money directly to three companies and funded the purchase of lands, the construction of houses, the purchase of trucks for oil distribution business, and the construction of fuel filling and service stations ‘in pursuance of the criminal adventure.’

Jean Mensa Joins Thousands At NSPPD Ghana Confab

The Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa, joined thousands of worshippers from across the country at the Accra Sports Stadium for the 2025 New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD) Ghana conference under the direction of Pastor Jerry Eze, the founder.

Known as the largest, inter-denominational Christian prayer movement, the EC Chair was spotted at the service leading a session of testimonies at the church event, introducing worshippers who shared accounts of miraculous healings.

The video, which has since gone viral, captured her saying, ‘Papa, this young lady came here with pain in her shoulder. She testified that she had this pain for two years and couldn’t lift her hand. But after you asked that they should do what they hadn’t done before, she is now healed.’

There have been a mix of reactions after the video surfaced online, with a section of Ghanaians praising Ms. Mensa for her commitment to the work of God, while others criticised her.

Led by Pastor Jerry Eze, the conference, which was held last Sunday, featured fervent prayers, songs of praise, and testimonies of faith, with attendees describing the experience as ‘life-changing’.

The event, part of a global series, aims at rekindling faith and unity among believers while strengthening Ghana’s place within the NSPPD community.

Miraculous healings were reported, including a physically challenged man walking without crutches and a woman healed from shoulder pain. The conference also featured worship performances by Sinach, Sunmisola Agbebi, and Joe Mettle, with Pastor Eze declaring, ‘What God cannot do does not exist.’

Northern Business Fair Showcases Entrepreneurship Potential

The Northern Business Fair 2025 held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale showcased the entrepreneurial potential of northern Ghana.

The two-day event created the platform to showcase the region’s finest in creativity, innovation, and commerce – from agro-processing and crafts to technology and entrepreneurship.

For many, the fair was more than an exhibition; it was a turning point for the northern business ecosystem, offering visibility, mentorship, and investment opportunities long concentrated in the southern parts of the country.

Exhibitors who participated in the fair were full of praise for the organisers and partners, describing the event as a unique platform that connected them to mentors, investors, and key stakeholders.

Esther Naabu Krakue of Amat Solutions Company Limited said the experience opened doors she never imagined.

‘I got an opportunity to talk to a white man who offered me free mentorship after this programme. He promised to give me my coach,’ she said with excitement.

For Saani Abukari of Saan One-One Wood Works, the fair provided the breakthrough he had been seeking.

‘I got some links for a partnership to grow my business. My expectation has been met,’ he remarked.

Other exhibitors, including Alhassan Tahiru Niindoo of A.T. Soul White Enterprise, Kassim Abdul Aziz of Organic Green Village, and Abdul Halim Ibrahim of Gamma Smocks, commended the organisers for bridging a gap that has long limited northern entrepreneurs.

‘It’s very great. I would like to thank Channel One TV for organising this event. They should try and do it every six months for us to have connections to grow our businesses,’ Abdul Aziz suggested.

The fair’s exhibitions reflected the entrepreneurial pulse of northern Ghana, featuring handwoven smocks, leather crafts, processed foods, renewable energy solutions, and locally developed digital tools.

By highlighting these innovations, the event underscored the region’s capacity not only for traditional craft but also for modern industrial growth and job creation.

Organisers say the fair reaffirms their commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs, stimulating innovation, and boosting economic activity across northern Ghana and beyond.

For decades, major trade exhibitions have been held mainly in Accra, leaving many talented entrepreneurs in the north without access to investors or national markets.

The Northern Business Fair 2025 has begun to change that narrative – bringing the marketplace home to where creativity, resources, and enterprise naturally converge.

It has also positioned northern Ghana as a new frontier for industrialisation and investment, in line with Ghana’s national agenda for inclusive growth.

By linking entrepreneurs with financial institutions, development agencies, and potential mentors, the fair is laying the groundwork for a stronger local economy built on innovation, value addition, and youth enterprise.

Complainant Turns Accused For Causing Harm

DRAMA HAS unfolded at Kuntenase, in the Bosomtwe Constituency of the Ashanti Region, where a complainant in a case which is being investigated by the police, has rather been arrested for taking the law into his hands.

Kofi Adusei, 49, with bruises on his body, reportedly, lodged a complaint to the Kuntenase District Police that he had been attacked by one Evans Agyei, 23, while he (Adusei) was returning from farm.

The case happened on October 30, 2025 and police immediately issued a medical form to Adusei, and accompanied him to arrest Agyei to assist in investigation. Agyei, however, eluded arrest as he went into hiding.

Barely 24 hours later, suspect Agyei with deep wounds on his left leg, left arm, and other parts of his body, also made a counter complaint to the Kuntenase police that Adusei had also inflicted machete wounds on him.

‘On 30/10/25 at 1930 hours, Kofi Adusei, aged 49 years, living at Kuntanase with bruises on his body reported to Kuntanase Police that on 30/10/25 about 1800 hours, while returning from farm, he was attacked by Evans Agyei, aged 23 years, who bit his chest and back.

‘Police medical report form was issued to him to attend hospital for treatment and report. The investigator and the complainant went to look for the suspect, but he went into hiding.

‘On 31/10/25 at 0800 hours, Evans Agyei was brought to the station by his relatives with sharp wounds on his left leg, left arm, and other parts of his body.

‘It was reported that Kofi Adusei, who alleged he was attacked by Evans Agyei, went and inflicted machete wounds on him when he was asleep on a bench in a JHS classroom at Dedeoko on 31/10/25 at 0300 hours,’ a police report said.

The police said a medical report form was issued to Agyei to attend the hospital for treatment and report, adding, ‘Kofi Adusei has been arrested and detained. Investigation is ongoing, and suspect Kofi Adusei will be arraigned before court earliest.’

Rice Farmers, Processors Cry Over Unsold Local Produce

Rice farmers and processors in the northern sector are lamenting over unsold rice produce which they say is threatening their livelihoods.

The Tamanaa Rice Factory in Nasia in the North East region has more than 10,000 metric tonnes of rice sitting idle, prompting serious concern among farmers.

Chief Executive Officer of Tamanaa Company Limited, Alhaji Saibu Braimah, in an interview with journalists expressed frustration at the scale of the glut and its effects on farmers and factory workers.

According to him, the company has sold virtually no rice over the past ten months, a situation he described as unprecedented in the industry’s history.

‘Rice and other products are package here nobody is buying them. Previously we use to supply not less than 20,000 tonnes within a month but currently even within the year we haven’t been able to sell up to 5 tonnes of rice,’ he said

He revealed that the situation has compelled the Tamanaa Company to reduce its workforce by more than half, laying off over 50 employees from an initial staff of more than 100 as the factory struggles to sustain operations amid weak demand for locally produced rice.

‘I had 105 employees but I have laid off some leaving 45 workers and if nothing changes I will be forced to let the rest go home,’ he noted

Meanwhile, Rice Farmers Association has threatened to boycott this year’s Farmers’ Day celebrations due to their predicament.

‘The call that our association made to our members is that we are boycotting this year’s farmers day and I fully support it because what are we going to celebrate because farmers are not happy in this country,’ Mr. Braimah said.

The farmers attributed the situation to the continued smuggling and the persistent presence of foreign rice into the country as key drivers of unfair competition and falling sales for Ghanaian rice.

The farmers are therefore urging the government to impose a ban on rice imports and to adopt policies requiring government institutions to prioritise procurement of locally produced rice as part of longer-term solutions to the crisis.
