”It’s PDP’s end in S/East,” Ex-VON boss reacts to defection of Gov. Mba to APC

Former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu has described exit of Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a clear signal of the party’s end in the South-East.

Okechukwu said this on Sunday in Enugu while reacting to reports that Mba and other elected officials of PDP will defect to PDP on Tuesday.

The APC had announced plans to welcome Mbah, thousands of political officer holders and aides from the PDP into its fold last Friday.

The grand reception of members of PDP Enugu State into APC would take place on Tuesday in Okpara Square, Enugu.

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, was said to have broken the news of the governor’s impending defection on Friday.

Reacting to the impeding mass defection, Okechukwu said, ‘The move by Mbah is a defining political moment and a clear indication that the South-East zone has finally bid the PDP goodbye.

‘Mbah’s defection is a pragmatic, rational and inevitable decision, which symbolises the total collapse of PDP’s dominance in the South-East.

‘This is PDP moving from controlling all five state governments in the zone in 1999 to having zero governor in 2025,’ he said.

He recalled the timeless lamentation of the late Dr Chuba Okadigbo, who once warned that the PDP ‘pays good deeds with bad coins’, adding that Mbah’s exit vindicated that lamentation.

Okechukwu criticised the PDP’s ‘utter disregard’ for equity and justice, especially in 2023, when the party breached the Fourth Republic’s long-standing national zoning convention.

‘The last straw that broke the PDP’s camel’s back,’ Okechukwu noted, ‘was the deliberate marginalisation of the South-East during the controversy over the National Secretary position.’

He alleged that the PDP’s serial betrayal, neglect and abuse of the South-East were sufficient grounds for Mbah’s long anticipated defection.

‘Gov. Mbah’s exit is not an isolated event . It is the final chapter in the South-East’s disillusionment with a party that failed to reward faithfulness, fairness and friendship,’ he alleged.

2027: Obedient speaks on Jonathan, Obi alliance

The Obidient Movement has said there is no political agreement between former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to remove President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, clarified that no alliance or deal exists between the two politicians.

There had been rumours that Jonathan might contest the 2027 presidential election and could either return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Recently, Jonathan met with ADC leaders, including the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, and spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi has not yet decided which political party he will use to contest in 2027. Although he is still a member of the Labour Party, he also belongs to an opposition coalition that has adopted the ADC.

A recent closed-door meeting between Jonathan and Obi raised speculation about a possible alliance.

Tanko, however, dismissed such rumours, saying:

‘My principal and the former president have a good relationship and often talk about how to move Nigeria forward. Their meeting should not be seen as a political pact. Even when they met in Ghana, I was present, and there was no discussion about 2027.’

Moscow jittery as Trump considers arming Ukraine with powerful ‘Tomahawk’ missile

US President Donald Trump has said he is thinking about sending Tomahawk long-range missiles to Ukraine a move that could raise tensions with Russia.

When asked by reporters if he would approve the weapons transfer, Trump said, ‘We’ll see, I may.’

His comments came after his second phone call in a few days with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been urging the US to provide stronger weapons to defend against Russia’s attacks.

Ukraine wants missiles that can reach targets deep inside Russia.

Tomahawk missiles can travel up to 2,500 kilometers (about 1,500 miles), meaning they could reach Moscow from Ukrainian territory.

Sending them would mark a major change in US support for Ukraine and could allow strikes far beyond the front lines.

Speaking while traveling to Israel, Trump said he might talk directly to Russia about his decision:

‘I might tell them that if the war isn’t settled, we may or may not send them. Do they want Tomahawks coming their way? I don’t think so.’

Russia has warned that giving Ukraine long-range missiles would be seen as a serious provocation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recently said such weapons would not change the situation on the battlefield:

‘Whether it’s Tomahawks or other missiles, they won’t change the dynamic,’ he said.

In his recent calls, Zelensky pushed for more advanced systems to counter Russia’s air and missile strikes, which have destroyed parts of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and hit civilian areas, especially in Kyiv.

The US has avoided sending long-range strike weapons so far to prevent direct conflict with Russia. But last month, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, suggested a tougher stance, saying,

‘There are no sanctuaries in this war.’ Many saw that as a signal that the US might now support deeper strikes into Russian territory.

Trump: Gaza peace deal only possible after striking Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, on Monday, calling the day ‘one of profound joy and soaring hope.’

Trump opened his speech by celebrating the return of 20 Israeli hostages, noting they were ‘returning to the glorious embrace of their families’ while the 28 deceased would finally be laid to rest. He said the region is now ‘at peace’ and expressed hope that this will continue ‘for eternity.’

During his address, Trump credited U.S. military action against three Iranian nuclear sites earlier this year, saying it helped ‘clear a big cloud off the Middle East and off Israel’ and was key to making the hostage deal possible.

He thanked his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for their roles in the negotiations. Trump also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the prime minister’s repeated requests for weapons ‘led to peace.’

Trump’s speech was briefly interrupted when a Knesset member held up a sign reading ‘Recognise Palestine.’ Security quickly removed the protester, and Trump resumed, calling the interruption ‘very efficient.’

Describing the event as ‘the historic dawn of a new Middle East,’ Trump thanked Arab nations who helped with the negotiations and called the outcome ‘an incredible triumph.’ He added that the region is entering a ‘golden age’ for Israel and its neighbors.

Trump also mentioned he would later travel to Egypt for a peace summit with world leaders, joking that he might be late due to lengthy speeches in the Knesset.

A Nigeria oil and gas service company, Tamrose Limited has announced the successful repayment of a $10 million loan it obtained in 2019 from the Nigerian Content Intervention Fund (NCI Fund) managed by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB)

Tamrose Limited obtained the loan from the dedicated financing scheme managed by the NCDMB for growing capacity in the oil and gas industry.

NCDMB confirmed that the final instalment was completed on September 30, 2025, with no missed payments throughout the six-year repayment period.

A statement by NCDMB indicated that with the loan, Tamrose was able to increase the number of its four security patrol vessels to a fleet of 15 vessels comprising 10 security patrol vessels and five platform supply vessels within six years.

‘This growth, achieved within six years, positions Tamrose as a leading indigenous marine solutions provider to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

‘The Executive Chairman of Tamrose Limited, Mr. Ambrose Ovbiebo, disclosed that the repayment milestone reflects both the rigorous standards NCDMB applies in selecting beneficiaries and the impact of its interventions in building real capacity among indigenous players. For Tamrose, it marks a defining moment in its growth journey and reinforces its position as a proud beneficiary and flag bearer of the NCDMB legacy.’

In a letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Ovbiebo, expressed appreciation to the Board for its unwavering support of indigenous companies.

He stated that the repayment milestone also marks a defining moment in the company’s growth journey as a marine solutions provider and as a proud beneficiary of NCDMB’s intervention.

In recognition of this achievement, Tamrose proposed to host a celebration event at the NCDMB conference hall in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on November 13 2025.

The event will be attended by oil and gas stakeholders across the country and will serve as an opportunity to showcase how the NCI Fund has empowered indigenous companies, while also highlighting broader benefits, including job creation, human capital development, and value-chain expansion.

The celebration event will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the positive outcomes of NCDMB’s funding interventions and the importance of sustained collaboration in building capacity within the sector.

It will also serve as a platform to encourage more indigenous operators to take advantage of structured support systems like the NCI Fund to expand their businesses and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s local content objectives.
