Moscow jittery as Trump considers arming Ukraine with powerful ‘Tomahawk’ missile

US President Donald Trump has said he is thinking about sending Tomahawk long-range missiles to Ukraine a move that could raise tensions with Russia.

When asked by reporters if he would approve the weapons transfer, Trump said, ‘We’ll see, I may.’

His comments came after his second phone call in a few days with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been urging the US to provide stronger weapons to defend against Russia’s attacks.

Ukraine wants missiles that can reach targets deep inside Russia.

Tomahawk missiles can travel up to 2,500 kilometers (about 1,500 miles), meaning they could reach Moscow from Ukrainian territory.

Sending them would mark a major change in US support for Ukraine and could allow strikes far beyond the front lines.

Speaking while traveling to Israel, Trump said he might talk directly to Russia about his decision:

‘I might tell them that if the war isn’t settled, we may or may not send them. Do they want Tomahawks coming their way? I don’t think so.’

Russia has warned that giving Ukraine long-range missiles would be seen as a serious provocation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recently said such weapons would not change the situation on the battlefield:

‘Whether it’s Tomahawks or other missiles, they won’t change the dynamic,’ he said.

In his recent calls, Zelensky pushed for more advanced systems to counter Russia’s air and missile strikes, which have destroyed parts of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and hit civilian areas, especially in Kyiv.

The US has avoided sending long-range strike weapons so far to prevent direct conflict with Russia. But last month, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, suggested a tougher stance, saying,

‘There are no sanctuaries in this war.’ Many saw that as a signal that the US might now support deeper strikes into Russian territory.

Trump: Gaza peace deal only possible after striking Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, on Monday, calling the day ‘one of profound joy and soaring hope.’

Trump opened his speech by celebrating the return of 20 Israeli hostages, noting they were ‘returning to the glorious embrace of their families’ while the 28 deceased would finally be laid to rest. He said the region is now ‘at peace’ and expressed hope that this will continue ‘for eternity.’

During his address, Trump credited U.S. military action against three Iranian nuclear sites earlier this year, saying it helped ‘clear a big cloud off the Middle East and off Israel’ and was key to making the hostage deal possible.

He thanked his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for their roles in the negotiations. Trump also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the prime minister’s repeated requests for weapons ‘led to peace.’

Trump’s speech was briefly interrupted when a Knesset member held up a sign reading ‘Recognise Palestine.’ Security quickly removed the protester, and Trump resumed, calling the interruption ‘very efficient.’

Describing the event as ‘the historic dawn of a new Middle East,’ Trump thanked Arab nations who helped with the negotiations and called the outcome ‘an incredible triumph.’ He added that the region is entering a ‘golden age’ for Israel and its neighbors.

Trump also mentioned he would later travel to Egypt for a peace summit with world leaders, joking that he might be late due to lengthy speeches in the Knesset.

While addressing a post-event press conference in Abuja on Monday, October 13 in Abuja, the Founder of FGWR, Bonaventure Phillips Melah, said Nigeria’s Pride Awards was founded to identify, recognize, appreciate and celebrate citizens, other nationals and corporate citizens that distinguish themselves through selfless service, patriotism, exemplary and inspiring leadership and therefore contribute positively to the development, prosperity, peace, unity and security of Nigeria as well as overall wellbeing of humanity.

He said although Nigeria is a country in search of quality leadership, many of its citizens at home and in the Diaspora are doing well in diverse fields of human endeavour and should be celebrated as according to him, a society that does not reward good people does not deserve good people in the first place.

He described Dangote Group as truly the Chief Cornerstone of Business in Africa, saying the Group’s Founder, Alhaji Aliko Dangote is a rare gift of God to Nigeria and Africa, adding that Nigeria in particular and Africa in general have benefitted immensely from the various businesses established by the conglomerate across the country and continent.

On the part of Anthony Chiejina, he described him as a media colossus, who have deployed his expertise and wealth of experience to ensure that Dangote Group was a most sought-after brand, household name that has maintained a credible reputation without blemish, despite attempts by detractors and business competitors to malign the organization.

Melah said apart from the existing 18 subsidiaries of the organization that is currently having more than 50,000 workers on its payroll, Dangote Group recently commenced the establishment of a $2.5billion fertilizer plant in Ethiopia, which he said would add positively to the growth of Africa and help to enhance the continent’s drive for self-sufficiency, adding that in all these, Anthony Chiejina has been a strategic factor in achieving the feats.

He also lauded Alhaji Aliko Dangote for establishing Dangote Foundation through which thousands of people have been lifted from poverty with many community-based health, water, sanitation and educational facilities have been provided to ease life for rural dwellers.

‘Dangote Group was established in the 1970s, and is the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa as well as one of the top-three in Africa with over 50,000 Nigerians and other nationals in its employment. With over 18 subsidiary companies, Dangote Group is involved in diverse businesses including transportation, fisheries, textile, flour milling, salt processing, fertilizer production, rice, sugar refining, construction, haulage, cement production and others. The successful takeoff of the Dangote Refinery, recoginsed as the largest single-train refinery in the world with the capacity of 650,000 barrels per day which also produces diesel, aviation fuel and other products, is a landmark achievement unprecedented in history; and is being celebrated by every well-meaning Nigerian, as it has ended the perennial fuel scarcity that afflicted the nation and her people for decades.

‘Due mainly to Dangote’s patriotism and human-oriented business approach, the Group has been at the forefront of efforts to reduce price of petroleum products in Nigeria, especially petrol, which at the moment stands at N840 per litre from the N1,200 last year. The same is true of cooking gas and others.

‘With its decision to distribute petrol free of charge and acquisition of 4,000 brand new trucks for the purpose, Dangote is set to further reduce prices in August when the new initiative would take off. Dangote Group was therefore awarded The Chief Cornerstone of Business in Africa for these remarkable feats,’ he said and praised other awardees for their individual and collective achievement, adding that Nigeria’s Pride Awards would henceforth be an annual event to be celebrated as side event to the anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence.

Africa CDC hails Germany’s pound 1bn pledge to Global Fund Africa

The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has described Germany’s one billion euros commitment to the Global Fund as a powerful demonstration of solidarity and global leadership in strengthening health systems and ending infectious diseases.

Dr Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa CDC, disclosed this at the ongoing World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany on Sunday.

Kaseya said that the fund was expected to accelerate efforts to end HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, while supporting pandemic preparedness and advancing universal health coverage across Africa.

He said the investment came at a pivotal time as the continent deepens the implementation of the New Public Health Order, which seeks to strengthen national health systems and promote equitable access to healthcare.

‘This is a powerful act of solidarity and global leadership.

‘It reaffirms the importance of shared responsibility in global health and will help build a more resilient and equitable Africa capable of preventing and responding to health threats,’ he said.

He said that the Global Fund remained a vital partner in Africa’s health landscape, supporting disease control efforts, laboratory capacity, surveillance, and supply chain systems in many countries.

Just in: Israel PM Netanyahu skips Egypt peace summit

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declined to attend the international peace summit in Egypt, a move stirring quiet controversy across diplomatic circles.

While his office cited the proximity of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot as the reason, observers say his absence at a meeting expected to shape post-ceasefire negotiations with Hamas could signal Israel’s hesitation toward broader mediation efforts.

The Sharm el-Sheikh summit, attended by over 20 world leaders including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, comes as global leaders seek a lasting peace framework following the fragile truce in Gaza.

Rita Edochie warns men against maltreating wives

Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has warned married men against maltreating their wives, stating that such act could lead to severe consequences.

Rita on her Instagram page, claimed that women are spiritual, and they have the power to make or break a man.

The actress also emphasised the need for men to treat their women right, stating that they play a vital role in their success or failures.

‘A good woman is the engine of every home. Argue with your keypads, na me talk am and na out of experience. Behind every successful man, there’s a good spiritual woman. Believe it or not, women are spiritual, virtuous, and substantial. Women work with God’s heart. They have the power to make and unmake you, you could be doing well today with one woman you care about, but the very moment you stop showing her love, start hitting her, talking down on her, cheating on her, sleeping outside, rejecting her food and frolicking with ladies on the night street, your glory as a man starts dropping drastically,’ she stated.
