Benedict Cumberbatch Makes Rare Comment About Fatherhood

Benedict Cumberbatch is opening up about how fatherhood changed him — as both a man and an actor.

“That’s what changes how you act, when you become a father,” the Marvel star, 49, said in an interview with The Times of London published on Friday, November 7, adding that becoming a dad to his three sons made his “emotions paper thin.”

(Cumberbatch shares Christopher, Hal and Finn with his wife, Sophie Hunter.)

“It isn’t necessarily crossovers between your experience and the character’s, it’s that you become an unfettered channel to stuff that you weren’t before,” the actor added. “Barbie makes you cry and other things make you angry.”

Ben Stiller’s Kids Felt Like He Wasn’t ‘Ever’ There as a Dad Growing Up

Cumberbatch stars in the upcoming film adaptation of Max Porter’s 2015 novel, Grief Is the Thing with Feathers. The book and film are about the sudden and unexpected departure of Cumberbatch’s character’s wife.

“I remember a babysitter looking after me and my brother quite soon after my dad died and we were playing his favorite game, where we kicked each other until one of us begged for mercy, laughing,” Porter told the publication, explaining how his own father’s death influenced his work. “The babysitter said, ‘I don’t know how you guys can be so cheerful after what’s happened to you.’ Should we have stopped being boys and been sad all the time? To perform our sadness for her?”

Cumberbatch then said of an especially sad scene in the film, “When we filmed the scene where Dad is packing his wife’s clothes and he smells her cardigan, people left the set because they couldn’t keep their crying quiet.”

The actor previously opened up about how he’s been impacted by fatherhood in a January 2025 interview with Variety.

“The minute you have kids this sense of time sinks in far more profoundly,” he explained to the publication at the time. “My youngest is turning 6 tomorrow, and I’m like, ‘I will be in my 60s when he’s 21,’ you know? It’s crazy. It’s gone so fast. So there’s a huge shift in priorities, and it makes you value what you do with your life in a very different way.”
He continued: “It does weigh on me. When you become a parent, your thoughts turn more towards mortality.”

Cumberbatch is generally quite private when it comes to his family. Back in February 2022, he spoke about his brood while accepting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He said of Hunter, “Together, we’ve created an amazing family of three extraordinary little human beings, who again, I would say a lot about, but you know what I feel about them, and this is public. They’re amazing, and they taught me a lot of what I now do and know, and they’ve also undone a lot of what I do.”

Robert Pattinson Says He’s a ‘Normie’ After Becoming a Dad: ‘It’s So Strange’

He also revealed that his kids treat him like any other dad, despite his career and Hollywood superstardom.

“Should anyone wonder if I can’t recover from this kind of celebration and ego pump, ‘Shut up, daddy,’ ‘Stupid fart face,’ being hit in the face, fought over … is a daily occurrence for me at home, so thank you for keeping me grounded, boys,” he continued. “One day in disguises, maybe we’ll sneak out here and have a little photograph all together on daddy’s star. You’re my little stars, and I adore you.”

Why ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Unexpectedly Canceled Episode After Past Suspension

UPDATE: 11/8/25 at 5:26 p.m. ET — The Thursday, November 6, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! was reportedly postponed due to a “personal matter” involving the host, Jimmy Kimmel, Entertainment Weekly reported on Saturday, November 8.

No additional information regarding the “personal matter” was given.

Original story below:

The newest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! was unexpectedly canceled and pulled from the lineup at the last minute.

David Duchovny, Joe Keery and Madison Beer were originally meant to appear on the Thursday, November 6, episode of the late-night show. However, the episode was pulled late in the day with no explanation and a previous episode featuring Tessa Thompson, Daymond John and The Beths re-aired instead.

Jimmy Kimmel and ABC haven’t publicly addressed the abrupt cancellation. Beer, 26, meanwhile, took to social media to address her planned performance.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, @jimmykimmellive needed to reschedule my performance that was originally scheduled to air tonight to a later date,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories on Thursday.

Stars React to Jimmy Kimmel Being Taken Off the Air

The surprising change comes two months after Kimmel’s talk show was pulled off the air over his comments about Charlie Kirk. A spokesperson for ABC confirmed to Us Weekly in September that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be “pre-empted indefinitely.”

Kimmel spoke about Tyler Robinson being arrested for Kirk’s murder on the show.

“The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said at the time. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

Kimmel added that President Donald Trump was taking the news “hard” before showing a clip of the president talking to reporters about the White House ballroom construction after he was asked how he was coping with Kirk’s tragic passing.

“He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,” Kimmel quipped. “It’s demolition, construction.”

Kimmel then took a dig at Trump, adding, “This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish.”

In response to his show being put on hiatus, Kimmel received an outpouring of support from fellow celebrities, including Ben Stiller, who retweeted an article about the controversy and added, “This isn’t right.”

Sophia Bush also reposted the news of Kimmel being pulled off air, writing via X, “The First Amendment doesn’t exist in America anymore. Fascism is here and it’s chilling.”

After days of discussion, the Walt Disney Company announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would resume taping.

Netflix Renews ‘Nobody Wants This’ for Season 3

“It’s been overwhelming. I’ve heard from a lot of people over the last six days. I’ve heard from all the people in the last six days. Everyone I have ever known has reached out 10 or 11 times,” Kimmel said during his monologue. “You supported our show [and] cared enough to do something about it to make your voices heard so that mine could be heard and I will never forget it.”

Kimmel then clarified his comments about Kirk’s death.

“I’ve been hearing a lot about what I need to do and say tonight, and the truth is, I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference,” he said. “If you like me, you like me, if you don’t, I have no illusions of changing anyone’s mind, but I do want to make something clear because it’s important to me as a human: It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.”

Kimmel continued, “I posted a message on Instagram on the day [Charlie] was killed sending my love to his family asking for compassion, and I meant it and I still do. Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was a deeply disturbed individual. That was actually the opposite of the point I was trying to make, but I understand to some that felt either ill-timed or unclear or maybe both.”

Conservative political commentator Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10. He was 31.

Comedian Keegan-Michael Key Visits Carolina Panthers to Support Rico Dowdle

The Carolina Panthers still aren’t sure about the penalty called on running back Rico Dowdle last weekend — so they asked the expert.

The team invited comedian Keegan-Michael Key to a team meeting on Saturday, November 8, to give the final determination on whether or not Dowdle’s questionable touchdown celebration should’ve resulted in a penalty.

“Let’s get an expert,” Panthers head coach Dave Canales said to the team, before announcing the very special surprise appearance. “Can we get Keegan-Michael Key to explain this to us?”

Michael Key then appeared on a big screen in the front of the room, much to the surprise of the players.

NFL’s Rico Dowdle Starts GoFundMe to Pay Fine for ‘Key & Peele’ Celebration

“I just want to say I’m very honored that you would choose a Key and Peele sketch for your celebration,” Michael Key said. “The reason I’m here is I wanted to share with you guys, especially with you Rico, is that I’ve done my recent research and apparently, I guess the rules that are made up in a comedy sketch do not necessarily reflect the rules in the NFL.”

Dowdle was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after his touchdown during a 16-13 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday November 2. After scoring, he celebrated with two hip thrusts – a nod to the famous Key & Peele sketch from 2013. In the sketch, the player Hingle McCringleberry, portrayed by Michael Key, gets penalized for three hip thrusts, not just two.

Dowdle revealed that he was fined by the NFL for the celebration via social media after the game. Dowdle’s agent, David Canter, said they would appeal the fine, which ESPN reported came out to $14,491.

During the virtual visit, Michael Key did some math regarding the fine.

“14,000 dollars for two pumps, so that’s seven grand a pump,” Michael Key said. “That means if you do zero pumps, then that would then cost you zero thousand dollars and a fine.”

Michael Key originally responded to the penalty in an Instagram video on Monday, November 3, making a joke about the penalty and the sketch.

“Rico, man you got robbed,” Michael Key said in the video. “You only did two pumps. I’m sorry man. Now I’m going to have to write a new sketch.”

In response to the fine, Dowdle started a GoFundMe page, jokingly saying he was raising funds to pay his fine. In reality, the money went to charity.

Travis Kelce Fined $14K for ‘Obscene Gestures’ After Last Home Game: Report

“After much thought I’ve launched a GoFundMe for my fines,” Dowdle wrote on the page, which he launched Wednesday November 5. “Key said I got three pumps but I guess the NFL disagrees.”

He then clarified the joke: “Actually, 100% of what is raised through this fundraiser will be sent to Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. Children’s Home Society promotes the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family. They specialize in education and prevention programs, family preservation, and adoption and foster care.”

At the end of Michael Key’s visit to the team meeting, the comedian introduced his wife, Elle, who said they were going to donate to a charity of Dowdle’s choice.

“We just wanted to let you know that we saw your GoFundMe,” Elle said. “But even before that we were gonna make a donation to the charity of your choice for 15,000 dollars.”

Police publicist Daudi’s family brings clean water, renewed hope to Mangochi

MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-The spirit of community service continues to shine where Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi and her family have once again touched lives through their annual clean water initiative.

In 2024, the Daudi family carried out a borehole project in Mangochi as part of their ongoing efforts to support communities facing water shortages.

The family remains focused on easing the daily struggle for clean and safe drinking water in areas where water challenges are still a major burden.

This year, in 2025, the family extended their generosity to Namakango Village under Traditional Authority (TA) Mponda, where residents are now celebrating access to clean and safe water for the first time in many years.

The new borehole has brought immediate relief to households that previously walked long distances just to find water.

Speaking to Maravi Post, Daudi said the main purpose of the program is simple yet powerful, to provide safe water to communities that have none.

She explained that her family believes service goes beyond law enforcement.

According to the family, community development is a duty built on love, unity and faith.

This year’s initiative has cost the family K4.3 million, covering drilling, installation and the full setup of the borehole.

The funds were raised through the family’s WhatsApp group, Akumitole Clan, where each member contributes to humanitarian causes.

Daudi emphasized that unity within the family is what keeps the projects progressing each year.

When asked why the family continues to conduct this project annually, she noted that water scarcity still affects many households including women and children.

Daudi also shared that each borehole stands as a Sadaqa Jaria (a continuous charity) in honour of their late mother.

She referenced the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, which state that anyone who digs a well receives ongoing blessings from every living being that drinks from it.

Looking ahead, Daudi said the family’s mission is far from complete.

Through newly established Kusyeto Trust, the family also is supporting students with school fees.

The trust, created in memory of their late grandmother, Mrs. Zahara Kaunde, currently supports university, secondary and primary school learners across the country and aims to reach even more in the future.

Daudi encouraged community members to embrace unity and love as the foundation of development.

She stressed that collaboration between the police and the public is essential for building a peaceful and caring society.

“As police officers, we are here not just to enforce the law but also to uplift the communities we serve,” she said.

WWE Star Charlotte Flair Reacts to Mid-Match Wardrobe Malfunction

Charlotte Flair’s bra top was clearly no match for her impressive wrestling moves.

During her Friday, November 7, SmackDown face-off with Nia Jax, Flair, 39, rocked a bedazzled white bra with matching bikini bottoms, thigh-high silver boots and a feathery overcoat. Flair, however, was seen adjusting her top on multiple occasions, right before the cameras cut to black for a split second.

“Did Charlotte Flair have a ‘wardrobe malfunction?’” a social media user wrote via X on Friday, which the wrestling pro ultimate retweeted onto her account.

Flair jokingly added, “I’m going to start wrestling in the robes.”

While Flair could laugh off the wardrobe mishap, she came up just shy of victory in the ring. Jax, 41, ultimately defeated Flair with the help of newbie wrestler Lash Legend.

Flair has performed with WWE since 2012, winning 14 titles to date.

“Being a spokesperson for the SmackDown’s women’s division is a full-time job,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in 2023. “It’s no secret WWE Superstars live out of suitcases and in hotels. I’m currently on the road [over] 275 days a year with no off-season.”

Before and after each match, Flair will give her commentary on ringside antics.

“Often, before going live on Friday Night SmackDown, I have a pre-match interview promoting the match or segment for that night,” she explained to Us. “You can watch me every Friday night tapping women out.”

Flair sustained a severe knee injury in December 2023, forcing her to sit out the 2024 season to recover. She returned to the ring earlier this year.

“It really kicked my ass. But, it gave me perspective, time and clarity, and it made me realize that I still would choose [life as a wrestler] again and again and again,” Flair told the U.K.’s Stylist in February, noting she wanted a low-key look for her WWE return. “On my first night back, I really wanted to try more lightweight make-up because I prefer no make-up when I’m outside of the ring. I did a lightweight foundation but realized I was very dewy on camera.”

She continued, “As the weeks have gone by, I’ve literally tried something different every week, like adding a pop of color or more highlighter. What I’ve come to realize is that what I really like is a matte look with a pop of color on the eyes specifically. Also, I love sparkle, especially when paired with the gear and the robes.”

Flair further stressed that her skin is a top priority, telling the magazine that she’s a self-proclaimed “skincare junkie.”

“I use retinol, and some days, my make-up artist points out that I’m peeling slightly. If I’ve overdone it, I’ll sleep in Eucerin’s Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm, and I often do it the night before a show,” she said. “You know in Mrs Doubtfire, when [Robin Williams] puts the pie on his face? That’s what I look like when my face is smothered in Aquaphor. But, it really does the job and helps with the flaking, and I know my make-up artist appreciates it.”

As for her hair, Flair returned to the ring with a twist on her typically blonde tresses.

“I really wanted to come back with a different look, and so I opted for this ombré finish,” she told the outlet. “I have sew-in extensions, and it has been a nightmare to get them to match, but it’s a process. I’ll see where [the color] ends up.”

Jennifer Lawrence Says the World Isn’t ‘Designed’ for Working Parents

Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about life as a working mom and how motherhood made her realize how little society is set up to support parents.

“When I had my first child, I felt completely connected to my baby,” Lawrence, 35, told W Magazine in an interview published on Friday, November 7. “But I also realized the world wasn’t designed around that relationship. Suddenly, you’re like, Wait, how am I supposed to go back to work? Get in a car and drive away? Get on an airplane and fly away from my baby? Like, what are you talking about? Everything looks different after that.”

Lawrence stars in the new movie Die My Love alongside former Twilight actor Robert Pattison. The drama follows a woman who experiences a severe form of postpartum depression called postpartum psychosis, which can include severe and even life-threatening symptoms including paranoia, confusion, obsessive thoughts, hallucinations and attempts to harm either yourself or your baby.

Realizing just how little U.S. society is built to support new parents — the U.S. is the only industrialized world that does not mandate paid family leave, and to date does not offer universal childcare, universal free lunch, and pays mothers less than it does fathers — gave Lawrence a feeling of empathy towards her character, Grace.

Jennifer Lawrence Details Her Battle With ‘Intrusive’ Postpartum Depression

“She says it in the movie: ‘There’s nothing wrong with me and my baby; it’s the world that’s f***ed up,” Lawrence told the publication in her Friday interview. “And I don’t know, maybe with a little more time, in retrospect, I’ll be able to tell the difference. I’m still not sure what was acting and what was just me being a mother.”

Lawrence is aware of the serious — and sometimes difficult to sit through — nature of her latest film. In fact, she is worried that fans of The Hunger Games or Twilight might be drawn to the movie for all the wrong reasons.

“My biggest fear is that people are expecting fanfic because it’s me and Rob,” Lawrence explained. “Huge mistake to go into this movie with that expectation. Everybody, pump your brakes and maybe watch a Lynne Ramsay movie before going in.”

In addition to relying on her own lived experience as a mother — Lawrence shares two children with her husband, Cooke Maroney — Lawrence also found inspiration for her character Grace in what many would consider to be an unlikely source: the TLC series Baylen Out Loud.

The series, which premiered in January 2025, follows Bayleen Dupree as she navigates life with Tourette’s syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Jennifer Lawrence Details Filming ‘Die My Love’ While 5 Months Pregnant

“I’m usually watching that or Little Women,” the actress told the outlet, explaining that the show’s portrayal of the “visible cycle of buildup and release” that occur before and after a tic helped her in her role as a new mother struggling with postpartum psychosis.

“She’s terrified of being invisible,” Lawrence explained of her character, who throws herself through a glass window, destroys a bathroom, bashes her head against a mirror and strips down to her underwear while attending a child’s pool party. “She would rather her husband be mad at her than not see her.”
