LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The High Court has set November 10, 2025 as the date to deliver its ruling for an election case in which former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Parliamentarian for Lilongwe Mtandire- Mtsiriza Constituency George Zulu is challenging the electoral results against Alfred Gangata now Minister of State.

Zulu lodged a complaint to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) over the handling of void votes.

However, MEC nullified the results in the Constituency.

Unsatisfied with the MEC ruling, Hon Gangata took the matter to the court.

In his petition to MEC, Zulu argued that the Constituency recorded 445 void votes but at the District Tally Centre only 345 void votes were reported.

“I only requested the Commission for a recount considering the narrow difference in the unofficial results,” he said.

Meanwhile, Justice Simeon Mdeza will deliver his ruling on the matter on 10th November 2025, at 2 pm in Lilongwe.

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Second Vice President, Enock Chihana, says government plans to upgrade Mzimba District into a municipality, pledging major infrastructure developments aimed at transforming the district into a modern urban and economic hub in the Northern Region to complement Mzuzu City.

Addressing traditional leaders, businesspersons, and officials from M’mbelwa District Council during an interface meeting on Saturday, Chihana said government is committed to laying the groundwork necessary for Mzimba’s transformation into a municipality.

“To actualise this dream, the government will ensure that the construction of Mombera University becomes a reality. We will also upgrade Mzimba District Hospital and complete M’mbelwa Stadium,” said Chihana.

The Second Vice President said once Mzimba attains municipal status, it will enjoy enhanced access to development resources and improved service delivery.

In her remarks, Director of Education and Sports for M’mbelwa District Council, Bridget Nungu, appealed to government to fast-track stalled development projects, including the M’mbelwa District Council Office Complex, M’mbelwa Stadium, and Mombera University.

Earlier, Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V commended government for its continued support to the district but called for more action to address pressing challenges.

He appealed for the rehabilitation of dilapidated roads, provision of relief food to food-insecure households, and resolution of chieftainship disputes in the Mzikubola area, saying such conflicts hinder development.

In response, Chihana assured the gathering that government remains committed to addressing the district’s concerns and completing all pending projects.

When you hear about floods sweeping away homes, droughts leaving entire communities without food, or heatwaves sending people to the hospital, what comes to your mind and how does it make you feel? These stories are now appearing almost weekly across the world.

We may find ourselves saying, “Nature is like that sometimes.” Yes, natural disasters have always existed – but today, there is something different.

Scientists confirm that climate change is making these events more frequent, more intense and more destructive. And the uncomfortable truth is that human activities are the most significant cause.

Burning fossil fuels, deforestation, industrial pollution, plastic waste and unsustainable farming are pushing the world to its limits – from Africa to Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australia.

The effects of climate change do not choose who to strike. One year, East Africa faces deadly floods; the following year, Europe battles extreme heat; the year after, Asia faces cyclones, with Australia experiencing massive wildfires thereafter.

In 2023 alone, climate-related disasters affected over 110 million people worldwide (UN OCHA, 2023). If a community escapes drought, it may suffer storms. If not storms, it may face unbearable heat. For example, Europe recorded over 61,000 heat-related deaths in the summer of 2022 (Nature Medicine, 2023).

Meanwhile, the Horn of Africa faced its worst drought in 40 years, leaving 23 million people food insecure (UNICEF, 2023).

In Southern Africa, Cyclone Freddy – one of the longest-lasting cyclones ever recorded – killed over 1,200 people across Malawi, Mozambique and Madagascar and displaced over half a million families (UNDRR, 2023). This is no longer “normal weather.” This is a crisis.

Climate change is no longer just an environmental issue – it is now a development crisis. How? Climate disasters drain national budgets and slow down progress.

Instead of investing in schools, hospitals, roads and youth development, governments have to divert money towards emergency relief.

After Cyclone Freddy in 2023, Malawi alone required over USD 700 million for recovery and reconstruction (World Bank, 2023).

International partners, including the EU, US, UK and UN, also redirected millions in aid that could have supported other development programmes. Imagine how far these resources could have gone if there were no climate disasters. They could have built industries, created jobs, supported agriculture and improved healthcare – especially for young people. Climate change is silently reversing years of progress and pushing nations backwards. More recently, Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica. It has been described as the strongest-ever storm to hit the island nation. According to Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, the damage caused to homes and infrastructure is roughly equivalent to 30% his country’s GDP for 2024.

Because climate change affects everyone, solutions must involve everyone: governments, organisations, and ordinary citizens. Some people think, “I am just a teacher, a nurse, a farmer, or an accountant. Climate change is not my field.” But climate change will visit your field whether you like it or not. When one district is hit, the whole nation feels it. The more your government spends on disasters, the less remains for development in your area. That is why we all must take responsibility.

The good news is that the world is not silent. Organisations such as The Club of Rome are advocating global cooperation to address climate change. Through initiatives like the Planetary Emergency Plan, Earth4All, and the Climate Governance Commission, The Club of Rome promotes systems thinking and brings leaders together to drive long-term climate solutions. For example, one of its members Sandrine Dixson-Declève, who served as Co-President of the organisation from 2018 to 2024 has advocated for Europe’s energy transition and climate policies, contributing to awareness and pushing for systemic action. This kind of leadership inspires change and shows what is possible when voices join together for the planet.

This year, the world is gathering in Brazil for COP30, a crucial moment for global climate action. COP29, held in Azerbaijan last year, made progress on climate finance discussions, but many countries, especially those most affected by climate change, argued that commitments remained insufficient to match the scale of the crisis. COP30 must go further by securing clear emission-cut targets, expanding climate finance for vulnerable nations, and driving practical solutions that protect people and nature. But we cannot sit back and wait for leaders alone. Real change begins with us – in our homes, communities, and daily choices.

You may ask, “But what can I, as one person, really do?” The answer is – a lot. Real change starts with small, daily decisions. The UN posits that individual lifestyle changes can cut personal carbon emissions by up to 40%. Planting and protecting trees, reducing waste, saving energy at home, avoiding burning waste, using public transport, supporting climate-friendly policies, and educating children about the environment all make a real difference.

Whether you are experiencing drought, floods, heatwaves, cyclones, forest fires, or rising food prices, these events are more than headlines; they are signals urging us to act. As the late Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai said, “It’s the little things citizens do that will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees.” Therefore, what will your “little thing” be?

As you reflect on this, ask yourself: If not now, when? If not you, who? And if we choose to do nothing, what kind of world will the next generation inherit?

The sobering reality – climate change will not wait for us to get ready.

The New African Charter International (NACI) is deeply concerned and disturbed at the recent and serious escalation of violence in Nigeria and deeply regrets the loss of innocent lives and the great suffering experienced by Nigerians. NACI therefore extends its sincerest condolences to the victims and their families of all terror attacks on Nigeria.

Africa has since the brutal invasion and genocide campaign in Libya in 2011 suffered under the yoke of terrorism for over a decade now. NACI unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms, condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. All acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, and wherever, whenever and by whosoever committed the evil. NACI considers all the ongoing terrorism attacks in Nigeria as also attacks on all Africans, both at home and abroad.

Boko Haram and its affiliate terrorist outfits operating in Nigeria are being funded and backed by foreign powers with imperialist agenda on the African continent. International networks, such as the former United States Aid for International Development (USAID), according to the US Senate in Washington, has been a source of funding for the terrorist operatives in Nigeria. There are also foreign networks that enable these terrorists to propagate their ideologies, raise funds and acquire arms. They are funded by profits siphoned from the illicit drugs trade, arms and human trafficking, wildlife and forest crime, money laundering and cyber-crimes.

It has been documented that the Boko Haram terrorist group and its affiliates are continuing to reign havoc and terror where they operate, mainly in the northern region of Nigeria. They have been unleashing genocide on the civil population, causing devastation on infrastructures and public buildings, religious, educational, hospital and work sites in Nigeria.

NACI does not need a soothsayer to tell us that the current political instability in Nigeria stemmed from the country’s failed leadership, which has been infiltrated by foreign forces that are hostile to peace, stability and development in Africa. The result has been the Nigerian state not capable of handling its internal matters, and not able to represent Africa in the international arena. NACI proudly stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Nigeria, and calls on all Muslims, Christians and ethnic groups across that country to reaffirm their unity and patriotic zeal to defend their sovereignty, peace, and honor of Nigeria. We call on all Nigerians to shun all hate speeches and inciting messages that border on religious fanaticism, ethnic hatreds and divisions.

In this public statement today, 6^th November, 2025 the New African Charter International expresses its deepest concerns regarding the war-mongering, aggressive posturing, belligerent rhetoric and provocative remarks emanating from Washington. According to media coverage reports, US President Donald Trump has threatened to deploy troops to Nigeria to stop what they said, the killings of Christians in Africa’s most populated nation.

The US President asserted that Christians in Nigeria are being massacred every day, while the Federal Government in Abuja takes no action to avert or stop this selective genocide against Christians. Unfortunately, Mr Trump did not mentioned in his statement that the US, through the USAID created and is funding the activities of the Boko Haram and its affiliates terrorist outfits to unleashed these heinous atrocities and advance genocide on Nigeria. Mr Trump also failed to tell his audience that the activities of the Boko Haram and its affiliates concentrate on Northern Nigerian, which is dominated by Muslims.

NACI begs to differ from the narratives pushed forward by President Trump about the terrorism war against the Nigerian people. In plain truth, the issue is not about Nigeria; it is not about the alleged genocide attacks on Christians in Nigeria; it is about containing the Sahel region by behind the toxic extremist mind set of anti-Islamic propaganda. We take cognisance of this and categorically reject the provocative, inflammatory, inciting and hateful remarks made by the US President, which posed a dangerous threat to peace and security in Africa. These remarks were nothing also, but a reflection of Washington’s spurious imperialist agenda in Africa.

In our previous public statements, we revealed information accredited from reliable intelligence about plots in Washington to destabilise the Sahel states, and recent developments in the region point to that. We are seeing an escalation in the activities of the terrorist groups operating in the Sahel region, including, and in particular the terrorist attacks in Mali, resulting in the US and other powers asking their citizens to leave the Sahel state, citing security reasons. There were also reports of France building a military base in Borno state in Northern Nigeria.

It is therefore regrettable to note that there appears to be a concerted campaign to exert undue pressure against the Sahel states. In spite of the relentless efforts by the Sahel states to quench the activities of the proxy terrorists in Africa, they are being given cold shoulder. That is the reason NACI is questioning the motives of some foreign powers, particularly given the anti-Sahel posturing in the West. They seem to be short of showing a genuine desire to understand and help to kick out the terrorists out of the Sahel region; rather, they would only be counterproductive and exacerbating situations.

Statements and pronouncements being made by some powerful foreign leaders as well as the fake news and speculations propagated through the media speak volumes in this regard. It is in this relation that NACI finds it absolutely necessary to make its position unequivocally clear on the unholy alliance between Washington and the Nigerian government; an alliance that means disaster for the African continent.

This unholy alliance between Washington and the Nigerian government and the plan to destabilise the Sahel region had already begun with the recently reported coup attempt in Nigeria that led to the arrest of 16 officials they alleged were caught in the subversive action. This led also to the sacking of Nigeria’s service chiefs and their replacement with willing tools; as well as the forceful retirements of over 500 senior military officials from the Nigerian military. These are all well planned and clinically executed actions. There is no way the Nigerian government could deny that it is not part of Washington’s imperialist agenda to destabilise the Sahel region, to get away with the region’s rich natural resources.

If anything, President Trump should demonstrate maturity by addressing the root causes of the terrorist activities in the region, and not to place Africa in danger, with his so-called US military preparedness to go to Nigeria to save Christians in that country. Threats of such only increase the tension and worsens the problem of terrorism in Africa. 

To NACI, the Trump agenda is clear. Create a false narrative with the aid of a willing neighbouring state to carry on the destabilisation plan in the Sahel region. It is no more a secret to mention here that the government of President Bola Tinubu in Nigeria has accepted to bid the Trump offer to use Nigeria as a launching pad to attack the Sahel region from territories neighbouring the Republic of Niger and Nigeria’s Northern states. This is the Trump plan since his return to the White House in January this year.

NACI strongly believes the use of force and militaristic threats should be halted. Our concern is that the Nigeria government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be involved in the US war against the Sahel states if the US military is deployed in Nigeria. How can the Sahel states become magnets of attacks by the very political leaders that created and funded the terrorists operating in Africa? We demand the government of Nigeria not to allow any of its territories to be used as staging posts to launch spurious, covert or overt attacks against the Sahel region.

NACI stands in solidarity with the Sahel states and people, and wishes to recognize the remarkable courage of Africans in that region, who have nailed their support strongly behind their authentic leaders. We also wish to express concern about the current terrorist attacks on fuel tankers in Mali that led to scarcity of petroleum in the market. We commend the swift intervention of Russia to restore stability in the Malian fuel supply.  We further call on the Sahel states’ leaders to not allow any distraction to weaken their resolve to fight and win the ongoing war against terrorism in the region, to remain true to the Sahel’s humanist cultural traditions and history, to defend and promote human rights, freedom, sovereignty and dignity, and to accelerate the development agenda in the region.

Africans, both at home and abroad must condemn and reject this latest US aggression agenda and demand a stop to President Trump’s meddling mentality in the internal matters of the African continent. The US President must be held accountable for endangering international security by attempting to force the selfish agenda of the Deep State on African leaders. The Trump anti-African posturing on Nigeria is a tragedy for the African continent, and we call upon the US leadership to cease hostile rhetoric and pursue responsible dialogue with the Sahel states.

NACI is of the view that lasting peace in Africa cannot be achieved through threats and provocations, but only through justice, respect, equality, dignity and cooperation. We call upon all Nigerians to unite against any attempts to build a foreign military base in their country; and to unite in solidarity with their counterpart Africans in the Sahel region.

While we pledge to stand firmly against all forms of aggression and injustice, we call upon the United Nations to denounce President Trump’s warmongering and aggressive rhetoric against the people of Africa. We call upon the African Union (AU) to denounce the Nigerian government’s complicity in the US imperialist agenda in Africa.

External threats to destabilise the Sahel states, together with the silence of the international community, have prompted the Nigerian government to bid President Trump’s imperialist agenda in Africa.   As the Sahel states desire peace and stability in the African continent, we urge the AES (Alliance of Sahel States) to continue its efforts to strengthen its relations with other international instruments that support efforts for peace.

Following the concluded 2025 Mayoralty election in New York City and the declaration of the Democratic candidate as the Mayor-elect, I wish on behalf of the People’s Democratic League (PDL), our members and on my own behalf, to congratulate Mr Zohran Mamdani on his election victory. On 4^th November, 2025 election for the Mayoralty of New York City was held, in which the Democratic state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani won with 50.4% of the vote cast, defeating Curtis Sliwa of the Republican Party and Andrew Cuomo -the independent candidate. Mamdani would be inaugurated as the first Muslim of South Asian immigrant and the youngest to become the Mayor of New York City since 1892.

Mamdani’s election victory to lead the people of New York as the City Mayor demonstrates the confidence and trust with which New Yorkers attach to his promising role-model leadership. It is an expression of the will of the electorate, whose demands and aspirations centered on change and restoration of the lost dignity of the City of New York, a mission Mr. Mamdani so eloquently championed. The Mayor-elect campaigned against President Trump and promised to uplift the status of New Yorkers against outdated policies of his predecessors.

It is a well-established fact that the pursuit of political leadership involves intensive persuasion to the population towards winning their support to a well-defined vision and mission. We, in the PDL believe Zohran Mamdani did well to win the hearts of the people of New York. His patriotic zeal and dedication to uplift the status of New Yorkers have added impetus to his score marks.

On this great occasion, we express our immense pride regarding the geopolitical status of New York City as the seat of the United Nations Headquarters. We pray that the incoming Mayor will do everything to forge and develop a friendly relationship with the United Nations Secretariat, with a view to help rebrand the image of the world body.

The Integrity of Elections are based on cherished values that are acceptable to all, and ensure guarantee according to everyone of voting age the opportunity to exercise their constitutional rights and democratic freedoms. We wish to commend the New York City Election Body for ensuring that all New Yorkers are equal in politics by allowing them to exercise their political power devoid of fear, intimidation or favour. PDL therefore commends the peaceful manner in which the citizens of New York exercised their franchise, and we congratulate other candidates that participated in the whole electoral process. Their participation means an enrichment of democracy in the New York municipality.

For us in Sierra Leone, the deliberate and unconstitutional act to eliminate the PDL out of the peace and democratic process, robs the entire country of its multi-tier democratic electoral process. By meting out brutal injustice to the PDL, the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) in Sierra Leone is irreparably interfering with the constitutional rights and democratic freedoms of Sierra Leoneans to freely choose their political representatives and vote for them. These are not the marks of freedom, democracy or justice, but the emergence of a dysfunctional system that makes a mockery of fair justice to have someone in a leadership position within one political party sit in judgment on the conduct of that party’s real opponents.

The 2018 and 2023 elections called and held in Sierra Leone were particularly a farce. The People’s Democratic League is a threat to the party dynasty rule that has dominated Sierra Leone’s politics since independence from British rule in 1961. Unfortunately, this kind of fascist dictatorship does not give expression in a democratic dispensation, and in the case of Sierra Leone, the anti-people’s politics will only lead to more discontent by the Sierra Leonean electorate. In such an environment, democracy is a sham if not a farce.

We have deliberately delved into Sierra Leone’s dysfunctional politics, because the PDL shares the same aspirations with the Mayor-elect of New York City, for change of the old, avaricious, epileptic and dysfunctional system or status quo, and empowering the people to be able to stand tall in dignity. PDL’s policy is not to divide Sierra Leoneans along ethnic politics, regional bigotry or religious fanaticism, but to solve problems by debating economic, political and other issues that militate against development and prosperity. This is where the PDL is seen as a threat to the failed governance system in Sierra Leone.

We know that this is a moment replete with pride for the New York City’s Mayor-elect and his wonderful family. It is their victory, but it is also a victory for all New Yorkers. Needles to remind Mr. Zohran Mamdani that New York City is in his hands. And to say that Mamdani’s election victory is important for New York City, the United States and the global community is to say the obvious. Every New Yorker today is proud that real change has come to the US oldest City, and no doubt that Mr. Mamdani will be balanced and judicious, and will govern with equanimity from the seat of his authority.

No time to waste, Mr Mamdani. The City of New York is in its day of reckoning. Problems that were neglected for too long must now be given priority with a view to provide lasting solutions to the demands and aspirations of New Yorkers.

The time is now to transform the entire City of New York. This is our mission for Sierra Leone-a complete change of the rotten system or status quo and improve upon the lives of all Sierra Leoneans regardless of tribe, region or religion. The opportunity is now to rebuild the New York economy that is dynamic and exciting enough to answer the doubts of any New Yorkers, who wonder if their future can be built with a new face at the seat of the New York City’s Mayoralty.

Concluding, we want to assure the Mayor-elect of New York City that the PDL is a party for rejuvenation, for unity together with courage and with common purpose to define the course of the Sierra Leonean nation, to serve our people, our country and our Creator. We pray that Mr. Mamdani will find time during his busy schedules to look into PDL concerns about the governance system that is being practiced in Sierra Leone today. We wish Mr. Mamdani success as he prepares to steer the affairs of New York City, and wish him also good health, long life and happiness.

The powerful trailer for Jordan Peele’s latest project, High Horse: The Black Cowboy, is officially here — three years after his 2022 film, Nope.

“If there were no Black cowboys, then America wouldn’t exist,” writer Michael Harriot explains early in the trailer for the three-part series, produced by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.

“The Black cowboy was intentionally removed from the story, so we can create the myth of the American white cowboy,” another person says in the trailer, which was released via YouTube on Thursday, November 6.

The trailer immediately sets the tone for the docuseries — a deep-dive into both the history and erasure of Black cowboys in American culture. The trailer opens with a scene featuring two men — each wearing cowboy hats, scarves around their mouths and long black coats — as they square off against one another on a dusty street. The scene then reveals one of the men is Black, while the other is white.

Peele’s documentary will premiere on Peacock on November 20, and features interviews with Pam Grier, Tina Knowles, Lori Harvey, Bun B and more.

“I’m grateful to Monkeypaw for amplifying the powerful voices and long-standing culture of Black Cowboys and Cowgirls,” Peele said in a statement shared online. “Through High Horse: The Black Cowboy, on Peacock, their history is inseparable from the story of our country. And this project aims to honor and celebrate their lasting legacy.”

The docuseries is directed by Jason Perez and executive produced by Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Keisha Senter, Jamal Watson, Mari Keiko Gonzalez, Liz Yale Marsh, Kadine Anckle, Tom Casciato, Sacha Jenkins and Keith McQuirter.

The film is Peele’s newest since 2022’s Nope, a sci-fi horror thriller starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as a brother and sister who operate the only Black-owned horse ranch in Agua Dulce, California. The family trains and rents out horses for movies and TV shows being produced in Hollywood, until their father is struck and killed by a mysterious object falling from the sky.

In a June 2022 interview with Fandango, Peele explained he wrote the film in part as an effort to get audiences back into theaters to see movies.

“I wrote it in a time when we were a little bit worried about the future of cinema,” Peele said. “So the first thing I knew is I wanted to create a spectacle. I wanted to create something that the audience would have to come see.”

He continued: “So I set my sights on the great American UFO story. And the movie itself deals with spectacle, and the good and bad that come from this idea of attention. It’s a horror epic, but it has some points in it that are meant to elicit a very audible reaction in the theater.”

In fact, Peele was so focused on the audience while writing the movie that he even titled the film after the one word he most hoped attendees would yell out while watching. “So hopefully, when we go see it, we’re going to hear a lot of ‘nope!’” he added.

Former New York Mets star Darryl Strawberry, an eight-time MLB All-Star and three-time World Series champion, announced via Instagram on Friday, November 7, that he has been pardoned by President Donald Trump for his former tax evasion conviction.

Strawberry, 63, said in the social media post that he received the call from President Trump on Thursday, November 6. He thanked the president for “finalizing this part of my life, allowing me to be truly free.”

“Half asleep, I glanced over and saw a call from Washington, DC,” Strawberry explained in the post. “Curious, I answered, and to my amazement, the lady on the line said, ‘Darryl Strawberry, you have a call from the President of the United States, Donald Trump.’ I put it on speakerphone with my wife nearby, and President Trump spoke warmly about my baseball days in NYC, praising me as one the greatest players of the ’80s and celebrating the Mets. Then, he told me he was granting me a full pardon from my past.”

He continued: “My wife captured the moment on video, and I was overwhelmed with gratitude – thanking God for setting me free from my past.”

Strawberry’s successful baseball career spanned from 1983 to 1999, but was marked with legal troubles and drug abuse. He pleaded guilty in the tax evasion case in 1995, after he was accused of failing to report more than $350,000 in income from autographs, personal appearances and sales of memorabilia between 1986 and 1990.

According to a report from the New York Times, a White House official said Strawberry had served his time and paid back the taxes.

“Following his career, Mr. Strawberry found faith in Christianity and has been sober for over a decade — he has become active in ministry and started a recovery center which still operates today,” the official told the Times.

“This has nothing to do with politics,” Strawberry wrote in his Instagram post, which included three photos of him alongside President Trump. “It’s about a Man, President Trump, caring deeply for a friend. God used him as a vessel to set me free forever!”

The former Rookie of the Year was the No. 1 draft pick in the 1980 MLB Draft, selected by the Mets, and made his big-league debut in 1983. He won his first World Series with the fabled 1986 Mets team that included other greats such as Dwight Gooden and Keith Hernandez.

He also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, where he ultimately finished his career.

Strawberry won two more championships with the Yankees in 1996 and 1999.

In 2024, the Mets retired Strawberry’s No. 18 jersey. During the ceremony, he showed some remorse about leaving the Mets in 1990.

“I’m truly, deeply sorry that I ever left you guys,” he told the fans. “I never played baseball in front of fans greater than you guys.”

Strawberry finished his 17-year baseball career with 335 career home runs and 1,000 RBI. He had 1,401 total hits.

Happy’s Place has found a way to cast every main cast member from Reba, so are they aiming for the guest stars next?

“I think those are the next steps,” Melissa Peterman exclusively told Us Weekly about the hit NBC series. “I would love to get all of them in. It’s a bar so people come and go. That could be very fun.”

Peterman, 54, who plays Gabby, loved the idea of more familiar faces on the show.

“I love the idea of getting those big, iconic guest stars. We had Dolly [Parton], we had James Denton and Patrick Fabian,” she continued. “We’ve had so many great guest stars on the show. That would be really fun. Plus Kelly Clarkson, please. That would be such a fun list to go down.”

Reba (McEntire) attempted to start fresh while raising three kids — including her pregnant teen daughter (Garcia Swisher) and her boyfriend (Howey).

Nearly two decades later, McEntire, 70, and Peterman reunited with former Reba executive producer Kevin Abbott on Happy’s Place. This allowed them to cast some familiar faces in their new sitcom, which centers around Bobbie (McEntire) as she inherits her father’s restaurant and discovers a new business partner in the long-lost half-sister (Belissa Escobedo).

Season 1 introduced Us to Peterman’s character Gabby, who is a bartender on Happy’s Place after the actress previously played Barbra Jean on Reba. Howey, 48, meanwhile, rose to stardom playing Van on Reba before making a guest appearance on Happy’s Place as Gabby’s rich friend. Rich, 72, originally played Brock on Reba and then crossed paths with McEntire and Peterman while playing a tattoo artist on Happy’s Place.

Swisher, 46, meanwhile, is making an appearance in season 2. “JoAnna was a dream to work with. She plays an influencer and Gabby wants to know all about being an influencer so she’s going to help with the commercial for the tavern because I can’t cut it,” McEntire teased to Us. “It’s just hysterical. That was one of the episodes that was totally fun.”

While teasing the rest of the season, McEntire and Escobedo, 27, shared how they were excited for viewers to see how much Happy’s Place has evolved.

“It is a great place to be. We know our audience, we know each other better and we’ve gelled. We didn’t have that big of a break between the first season ending and second season beginning so we just fell right back into it,” McEntire teased. “We’re bonding a lot more. All six of us are very confident and very comfortable with each other — to a point that when we do have a guest cast, we feel very comfortable sharing the stage.”

Escobedo said the connection can be felt on the show.

“As we get more comfortable and more bonded, we see it in the characters as well,” she added. “Because we’re getting comfortable with our own characters and so each personality gets a little deeper. You get more into that person.”

She continued: “That’s what I’m so excited for everyone to see is how much the relationship between everyone has progressed into even more of an ensemble. It’s just so funny.”

McEntire teased to Us that the stories in season 2 are even bigger and better, adding, “We’ve progressed and we’ve grown together. We’re a tight knit family — although [Belissa and I] are the only ones that are blood related on the show. But it feels like we’re kids that have been adopted into one big family called Happy’s Place.”

Happy’s Place airs on NBC Fridays at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Peacock.
