Kelsea Ballerini’s latest era has arrived.

The country star, 32, released her new song, “I Sit in Parks,” on Friday, November 7, after announcing a surprise EP that’s dropping next week.

The track features Ballerini ruminating over what her life could have been like if she had a traditional family life instead of being a famous musician.

“Dad brought the picnic / Mom brought the sunscreen / Two kids are laughing and crying on red swings / We look about the same age / But we don’t have same Saturdays,” Ballerini sings, comparing herself to a mom of two within her age range.

Later, the singer adds, “I wonder if she wants my freedom / Like I want to be a mother.”

Ballerini announced that a six-track EP titled Mount Pleasant will drop Friday, November 14. Before the release of “I Sit in Parks,” some of the CMA Award winner’s famous friends weighed in to share their excitement about the new music.

“AHHHHHHH… it’s soooo good,” Reese Witherspoon wrote in the comments section of Ballerini’s Instagram post about the song. “YES🌳 v exciting,” added Keleigh Teller.

In an Instagram Story post on Thursday, Ballerini revealed that “I Sit in Parks” is the first track on Mount Pleasant. The other five are as follows: “People Pleaser,” “Emerald City,” “587,” “The Revisionist” and “Check on Your Friends.”

Ballerini has released plenty of new music this year, starting in March with the deluxe edition of her fifth studio album, Patterns. Last month, she dropped Patterns (Stripped Sessions), which included acoustic versions of seven Patterns songs, including new takes on “Baggage” and “Sorry Mom.”

“I Sit in Parks” is Ballerini’s first brand-new song since her split from Chase Stokes after two years of dating. A rep for the “Peter Pan” singer confirmed the breakup to Us Weekly in September.

Neither Ballerini nor Stokes, 33, has publicly discussed the end of their relationship, but Ballerini joked last month that she’s been leaning on antidepressants to get her through the days.

Last month, Ballerini admitted in an Elle interview that she was disappointed when she left this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards empty-handed. She had been nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year.

If this was what success looks like for those first seven songs, and now that’s shifted for whatever reason, where else can we go?”

Ballerini noted that she’s “not gonna stop making music,” so she’ll instead adapt her sound — and her attitude.

“Where else can I fit? So, I think it’s just about shifting where I find success, and I think it’s the same with award shows — like, I’ve never really been an award show girlie,” she explained. “I love going and I love performing, and I really let it affect me for a long time. And now I just go, ‘You know what? I’m happy to be in the conversation. I know that I have value here, and this is not where I find my success.’”

LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-Legal and economic experts are urging the Malawi government to pursue an out-of-court settlement in the controversial helicopter deal with Zambia’s AYA Technologies, warning that dragging the matter through international arbitration could cost taxpayers billions more in damages, interest, and legal fees.

The Malawi government has been advised to consider an out-of-court settlement in the ongoing $9.2 million helicopter dispute with Zambian firm AYA Technologies Ltd, amid fears that continued litigation before the International Court of Arbitration (ICC) in Paris could lead to escalating financial losses for the country.

The dispute stems from the government’s July 2024 decision to cancel a deal for two Bell 412 helicopters, which were later condemned as unfit to fly. The government had already paid $500,000 (about K867 million) as a deposit to AYA Technologies before pulling out of the contract.

The company has since sued for $4.6 million (about K8 billion), arguing that Malawi breached the agreement.

While Malawi’s former Attorney General (AG) Thabo Nyirenda, insists the contract was invalid and wants the advance payment refunded, some analysts warn that the government’s position could be legally and financially untenable.

“We’ve already admitted liability by paying,” says lawyer
Blantyre-based commercial lawyer Chifundo Soko said Malawi’s initial deposit is legally significant because it shows that the government had acknowledged and entered into a binding contract with AYA Technologies.

“Once the government paid that $500,000, it created a contractual relationship. Whether or not the helicopters were airworthy, that payment demonstrates consent and intent to transact. Unilaterally cancelling now exposes the state to litigation risk,” Soko said.

“In arbitration, the ICC will not only look at the technical side of the aircraft but also at the conduct of the parties. Malawi could easily be found in breach and ordered to pay both damages and interest,” he added.

Soko said an out-of-court mediation settlement could be a less expensive and reputationally safer option, especially given that international arbitration often involves high legal costs and currency penalties.

Economists warn of ballooning costs
Economic governance analyst Michael Cipo said the government’s refusal to engage in mediation could see costs spiral far beyond the K8 billion currently being demanded.

“International arbitration is extremely expensive. By the time the case concludes, Malawi could be paying upwards of K12 or even K15 billion, once you add interest, lawyer fees, and arbitration costs in Paris,” Chipo warned.

“It is in the country’s best financial interest to negotiate a settlement—perhaps by compensating AYA for its expenses and withdrawing cleanly—rather than waiting for a costly judgment.”

He added that a protracted legal fight could also affect Malawi’s credit reputation and relations with regional partners, especially given AYA’s Zambian origin.

Middlemen at the centre of the storm
Public procurement specialist Dr. Anthony Kamwana argued that the deal’s problems partly stemmed from the use of middlemen in defence procurement, a recurring issue in Malawi’s military acquisitions.

“If the government already made a deposit, that means the intermediary was engaged and fulfilled certain contractual conditions. Those intermediaries need to be properly compensated to avoid more penalties,” Kamwana said.

“Government should settle with AYA, clean up the process, and move on. Otherwise, this will become another long-running legal mess like the cement and fertilizer procurement cases that drained millions.”

Lessons from previous arbitration cases
Malawi has a poor record in managing international contract disputes.

In 2020, the government lost $8 million in a similar arbitration case involving a European supplier over a cancelled procurement deal.

Legal experts warn that history could repeat itself if Lilongwe insists on defending the AYA case through full arbitration.

Former Solicitor General Janet Banda, now an international law consultant, said Malawi’s defence—based on claims of the helicopters being “unfit to fly”—may not be strong enough to avoid liability.

“Arbitration tribunals often prioritize procedural fairness over technical assessments. If Malawi did not follow proper termination procedures or failed to give adequate notice, the tribunal may rule in AYA’s favour regardless of the aircraft condition,” Banda said.
“A negotiated settlement is the most practical and least damaging option right now.”

The case for settlement
Experts agree that Malawi can still limit its exposure by engaging in structured mediation, paying off the Zambian supplier a portion of the claimed amount, and formally ending the contract to avoid ongoing penalties
“If government pays even half of the K8 billion claim as a negotiated settlement, that’s far cheaper than the billions more it might lose after arbitration,” Chipo emphasized.

The Attorney General’s office maintains it will defend the case vigorously, but insiders within the Ministry of Finance admit privately that arbitration in Paris could “cripple the budget.”

As one Treasury official who asked not to be named put it: “The truth is, we paid something. That payment binds us legally. Unless we resolve this quickly, it will cost the taxpayer far more than anyone is admitting.”

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-High Court Judge Redson Kapindu has sustained the case involving Joseph Manguluti against Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declaring Simplex Chithyola Banda as a winner for Kasungu South Constituency during the September 16 General Elections.

Judge Kapindu therefore has ordered the continual of the case for further hearing.

Chithyola who won the ticket as Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and MEC are the first and second respondent respectively in the case.

Sikwese is the lawyer representing Manguluti while Wapona Kita leads Chithyola legal team.

This means the case will go into full trial after the court found that reasons for dismissal were not enough.

Chithyola is now opposition leader in Parliament.

Grey’s Anatomy‘s Jo and Link found themselves at odds over the concept of “organized religion” before the possible arrival of their twins — while someone else in the hospital suffered a surprising personal loss.

During the Thursday, November 6, episode of the hit ABC series, Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Link (Chris Carmack) found out they had different views on religion before the arrival of their twins. Jo wanted to make plans to baptize their children while Link was strongly against it. They took turns fighting about it — in between pregnant Jo delivering a patient’s baby — before agreeing to table the conversation.

The couple were on their way home when Jo realized her water broke. Elsewhere at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Simone (Alexis Floyd) was treating a patient who turned out to be her late mother’s best friend. They formed a connection while Simone learned more about her mom while admitting she still blamed herself for her death.

Simone tried to keep Regina stable but the patient ultimately died. She got some support from ex Lucas (Niko Terho) before going home. There was also Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.), who enlisted Jules (Adelaide Kane) on a home visit that turned into a patient’s toe falling off. They weren’t able to stabilize the situation so Bailey (Chandra Wilson) showed up to help.

This came after Deadline reported that Grey’s Anatomy is reducing the minimum guarantees for its veteran cast members to 14 out of the show’s 18 episodes per season.

While some fan favorites won’t be missing for more than four episodes this season, Scorsone’s absence was doubled after her character, Amelia, chose to take a sabbatical. Deadline subsequently reported that Scorsone’s break will last until 2026.

Showrunner Meg Marinis previously hinted that not every character would be safe this season after a hospital explosion.

“Well, I feel like a lot of people are probably sitting in operating rooms,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in May. “So unless you saw them and where they were when that explosion went off, I don’t think we can say anyone is necessarily safe.”

Marinis noted that she spoke with the cast about what to expect, adding, “I’ve had conversations with some of them, but they all know it’s a Grey’s Anatomy cliffhanger and they know every year they never know what to expect. They’re here for it. They like to keep our stories exciting and fresh.”

At the time, no decisions were yet made on who would return — and who wouldn’t.

It’s not as satisfying a story if people aren’t upset when someone leaves. It’s supposed to make people upset and sad, so I’m sure there’ll be some arguments. But I’ve been persuaded before to change my mind on things.”

She continued: “I definitely have thoughts. Whether or not those thoughts change, that can always happen. I haven’t put pen to paper yet, but it’ll be very soon that I do.”

The Golden Bachelor alum Gerry Turner has found a buyer for his Indiana home less than four months after putting it on the market.

According to a Realtor.com article published on Wednesday, November 5, the reality TV star’s lake house is under a contingent offer, which means Gerry, 74, “has accepted an offer; however, certain conditions must be met before that deal can close.”

Gerry’s four-bedroom, 2,624-square-foot property was originally listed at $739,900, the outlet reported. Several weeks later, the listed price was decreased to $719,900.

The house was the same one that was at the center of Gerry’s failed relationship journey with Theresa Nist, 72. The former couple met on season 1 of The Golden Bachelor in 2023.

Gerry and Theresa tied the knot in a TV special in January 2024 before calling it quits just three months later.

Gerry had originally planned to move out of the Indiana home as the then-couple planned to move to Charleston, South Carolina with Theresa. (Theresa was living in New Jersey at the time.)

Theresa told People in December 2024 that she also planned to offload her property so they could start a new life together in Charleston.

“That was the plan,” she told the outlet at the time. “I was selling my home. He was selling his home.”

During the interview, Theresa claimed that Gerry had told her he was “sick” of his home in Indiana and was on the hunt for something new before he was diagnosed with cancer and had second thoughts.

“[But] Gerry, after he got back home, he kind of changed his mind,” she said. “He said, ‘No, let’s do it six weeks here and six weeks there.’ And I didn’t want to do that. I really wanted a home together. I wanted the joy of being in a home together and designing a home together. I really thought that was going to be phenomenal. I was looking forward to that so much.”

According to Theresa, she and Gerry only inspected houses in Charlston online and never stepped foot inside any in real life.

“We never got there, and it never happened,” Theresa said. “So that would’ve been a thing to do differently, to actually go to South Carolina and go see things and see them in person instead of just looking at them online because that wasn’t enough.”

“I think it just petered out that we were looking at homes back and forth and we could never agree on one. And then the emails just stopped, [and] we weren’t looking anymore.”
