European Parliament President Roberta Metsola spoke of a “true loss for Cyprus and Europe”, referring to the death of former President of the Republic George Vassiliou.
In a post on X on Wednesday Metsola said she was informed with sorrow of the Vassiliou’s loss.
“A political leader who paved the way for Cyprus’ accession to the European Union and worked tirelessly for peace and modernisation. A true loss for Cyprus and Europe,” she noted.
Metsola also expressed her sincere condolences to his family and the people of Cyprus.
