It is our duty and collective responsibility to preserve the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and never allow such crimes to be repeated, said Acting President of the House, Zacharias Koulias, on Thursday.
The House Plenary observed a minute of silence for the victims on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is commemorated January 27. Israeli Ambassador, Oren Anolik, was present at the Plenary.
Koulias said that democratic achievements, peace and security are not given, but require constant effort, pointing out that the atrocities and horrors committed in the extermination camps testify in the most painful way to the disastrous consequences of racism, intolerance and the dehumanization of the ‘other’.
He also emphasized that the International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a day of deep reflection and tribute, but at the same time it is a constant call for vigilance and action, reminding us that hatred can grow with devastating consequences for humanity.
