The Cyprus Air Command, the armed air wing of the National Guard, has recorded substantial progress in the field of airworthiness, harmonising its procedures with modern international practices and standards, Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Theodorou, said on Thursday morning.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the aviation conference entitled “Strategic Integration of the Airworthiness Regulatory Framework in Aircraft Maintenance and Operations,” held at the “Andreas Papandreou” Airbase in Paphos and organised by the Air Command.
Senior National Guard officials, Air Command officers, academics, specialised experts, and other guests from Cyprus and abroad take part in the event. It focuses on modern challenges and developments regarding airworthiness, the maintenance of flight assets, and the implementation of European military standards in the field of aviation safety and operational readiness.
In his opening address Lieutenant General Theodorou highlighted the importance of maintaining flight assets and weapon systems as a fundamental factor in preserving the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces.
The Chief of the National Guard noted that military power does not depend exclusively on the acquisition of modern weapon systems and assets, but also on the ability to maintain them at a high level of reliability and availability through continuous and quality maintenance. He underlined that behind every safe flight lies the daily effort of engineers and technicians, who work with a high sense of responsibility, professionalism, and expertise.
He further noted that the Air Command has achieved substantial progress in the field of airworthiness, harmonising its procedures with modern international practices and standards. At the same time, he underscored the need to continue this effort by investing in knowledge, continuously improving processes, and maintaining a commitment to quality and safety.
The Chief of the National Guard expressed his appreciation to the personnel serving in the sectors of maintenance, technical support, and airworthiness, pointing out that their contribution is decisive for maintaining operational readiness and the successful fulfillment of the National Guard’s mission.
Furthermore, he expressed his confidence that the conference will serve as an important step for the exchange of knowledge and experience, contributing further to the upgrading of the Air Command’s capabilities.
