Cyprus’ MFA hosts reps from 11 small island states in the French-speaking world for international seminar

Forty representatives from 11 small island states in the French-speaking world took part in an international seminar held in Protaras from 20 to 23 October 2026, according to a post by Cyprus’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a post on X, the Ministry said it had welcomed 40 representatives from 11 small island states across the French-speaking world, from Africa, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans, as part of the international development seminar on inclusion, Francophone island societies and the potential of digital technologies.

‘The seminar provided participants with an opportunity to share experiences, exchange views on the common challenges facing island states and explore the potential offered by digital technologies, particularly in the fields of education and inclusion,’ it said.

The workshop was organised in cooperation with the Directorate for the Teaching and Learning of the French Language (DEAF) of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), with the support of CyprusAid, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ national mechanism for managing and providing development and humanitarian assistance.

It is noted that the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the OIF, of which Cyprus has been a full member since October 2024, as well as to implement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ development policy.
