Cyprus ranks second in the EU in availability of mammography units, according to Eurostat

The availability of mammography units in Cyprus reached 6.9 units per 100,000 inhabitants in 2024, the second-highest rate among EU countries for which data were available, according to figures published by Eurostat.

Only Greece recorded a higher availability, at 7.6 units per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Italy at 3.7. By contrast, Poland, Czechia, Sweden and Romania recorded the lowest availability, at 1.1 units per 100,000 inhabitants.

As regards breast cancer screening, the rate in Cyprus stood at 29.2% in 2024 among women aged 50 to 69 who had undergone a mammography within the previous two years.

Cyprus recorded the second-lowest rate among EU countries for which data were available. Only Hungary had a lower rate, at 27.2%, followed by Poland at 33.8%, Latvia at 38.2% and Austria at 41.3%.
