Cyprus records pound 1.2 billion services surplus in Q1 2026, according to Eurostat

Cyprus recorded a current account deficit of pound 1.3 billion in the first quarter of 2026, based on non-calendar adjusted and non-seasonally adjusted data, according to figures published by Eurostat on Friday. During the same period, Cyprus posted a pound 1.2 billion surplus in its services account.

According to Eurostat, Cyprus’ overall current account recorded a pound 1.0 billion deficit in the first quarter of 2025, followed by deficits of pound 0.4 billion in the second quarter, pound 0.1 billion in the third quarter and pound 0.8 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, before widening to pound 1.3 billion in the first quarter of 2026.

As regards Cyprus’ services account, it recorded a pound 1.5 billion surplus in the first quarter of 2025, pound 2.3 billion in the second quarter, pound 2.9 billion in the third quarter, pound 2.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025 and pound 1.2 billion in the first quarter of 2026.

Across the European Union, the seasonally adjusted current account recorded a pound 113.4 billion surplus in the first quarter of 2026, equivalent to 2.4% of GDP. This compares with a surplus of pound 99.2 billion, or 2.1% of GDP, in the fourth quarter of 2025 and pound 104.9 billion, or 2.3% of GDP, in the first quarter of 2025.
