The first concrete cooperation projects under the framework of the Pact for the Mediterranean will be presented at the Informal European Council on April 23 and 24, which will be held in Cyprus, according to a post by President Nikos Christodoulides, on X.
He said that, in the context of Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Republic of Cyprus will substantially strengthen its efforts to further enhance relations between the EU and the countries of the wider Middle East region.
‘We will do so by leveraging our geographical position, our political credibility and our knowledge of the region’s particularities’, President Christodoulides adds in his post, noting that these elements offered added value, both for Europe itself and for the region.
Within this framework, he noted, the first concrete cooperation projects under the Pact for the Mediterranean will be presented at the Informal European Council of April 23 and 24, to be held in Cyprus.
‘Cyprus will continue to play an active and responsible role in promoting such initiatives, particularly during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, making use of its institutional position and political credibility,’ the President says.
‘With consistency and commitment’, the country contributes to shaping a framework of meaningful dialogue and cooperation, aimed at stability, security and cooperation, for the benefit of both Europe and the wider region, his post concludes.
