Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos expressed on Friday, his support for Lana Nusseibeh’s candidacy for the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations, noting that ‘the time has come for female leadership in major multilateral organisations.’
In a post on X, the Minister stated that he had worked with Nuseibeh, whom he described as ‘an experienced, effective and distinguished diplomat’, with an approach that focuses on dialogue, compromise and achieving tangible results.
He also noted that she has a strong track record of supporting multilateralism and the United Nations.
The Minister also stated that, to date, no suitable candidates have been put forward for the post of UN Secretary-General in accordance with the rules of the United Nations system, adding that it is now becoming a matter of urgency to move forward with the selection process.
Finally, wishing Nuseibeh strength and every success in her endeavour, he expressed the hope that her candidacy would open up new avenues.
