Kurds residing in Cyprus staged a protest in Nicosia on Thursday calling for an end to the ‘genocidal attacks against Rojava,’ and marched to the House of Europe and the House of Representatives where they handed over a report regarding the current situation of the Kurds in Syria.
‘The free will of the Kurdish people is being targeted and their very existence is being attempted to be eliminated,’ a statement issued by the (Democratic Union Party) PYD – Cyprus stated.
A delegation of Kurds handed over to representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament at the House of Europe in Nicosia a report on the situation of the Kurds of Syria by the Kurdish National Council organization entitled “Stop the war against the Kurds” which says “Save Rojava – Kurdistan”.
The protesters called on the European Union, the United Nations and the entire international community to intervene to stop the attacks against the Kurds, and referred to “war crimes” by the Turkish state and its militias that must be brought to justice. “The re-establishment of ISIS must not be allowed,” they stressed.
From Cyprus “we call on everyone to support the just resistance of the Kurdish people. Silence is complicity,” they said.
“The political decision for these genocidal attacks was taken in Paris in the meetings with al-Julani and the perpetrators on the ground are the militias organized by Erdogan and the Turkish state. After the massacres against the Alevis, Druze and Christian communities in Syria, now the Kurdish people are being targeted with the same policies of extermination”, they noted, adding that “the militias of Erdogan and al-Julani released thousands of ISIS prisoners”.
Moreover they demanded the immediate opening of safe humanitarian corridors to the city of Kobani, unhindered and immediate access for humanitarian organizations to provide food, water, medical assistance and emergency shelter, and the rapid restoration of basic services, including electricity, water and telecommunications.
They later on marched to the House of Representatives also to express their demands.
