President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday, in the framework of his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly.
The meeting is scheduled for 10:55 local time and will take place at the UN headquarters.
Earlier, at 0900 local time, the President will attend a working breakfast organised by Antenna Group and the Atlantic Council on ‘Fostering Europe-Gulf partnerships for regional security and prosperity” during which he will make an intervention.
At 13:00 local time, the President will host a luncheon for the Permanent Representatives of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
President Christodoulides addressed the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, calling on the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to allow substantive negotiations on the Cyprus issue within the framework agreed by the UN, while stressing that partition of the island is unacceptable.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
