A yellow warning is expected to be issued by the Cyprus Meteorological Service as the island is ushering in the New Year. Coastal storms are expected in New Year’s Eve but improved conditions are expected the first day of the new year as Met Officer Andreas Hadjigeorgiou told the Cyprus News Agency.
Isolated storms are expected Tuesday evening and will continue until the afternoon of December 31. He clarified that on the evening of New Year’s Eve the southeastern coast will not be affected as much by rain and storms. According to Hadjigeorgiou, the meteorological service may issue a yellow warning for strong storms mainly on the coast to come into effect Tuesday night until Wednesday afternoon.
Hadjigeorgiou said that weather will be mainly clear until Sunday. Sleet or snow is expected in the mountains Tuesday and Wednesday. Hail is also possible in the areas where storms are expected, according to the CyMet.
Strong winds on the coast are expected Tuesday whereas temperatures will rise between 14 to 15 degrees, with the possibility of a temporary drop of 2- or 3-degrees Friday.
Hadjigeorgiou added that on the coasts the temperature will be 15 to 16 degrees, which are normal temperatures for the season.
In the evenings, the temperature will drop to 4 degrees inland, to 6 on the coast and in the higher mountains to zero degrees, except on the evenings of Wednesday and Thursday.
As regards the snowfall in the previous days, he explained that any snowfall was light, resulting in the snow melting at first light of day.
