SL golfers look to recover on Day 2 of Asian Games Golf Championship

Sri Lanka’s three golfers face an uphill task after a difficult opening round at the Asian Games Golf Championship at Kasugai Country Club in Japan yesterday.

Chinese Taipei’s W. Wang and Japan’s K. Higa shared the opening-day lead after carding impressive five-under-par 65s, setting the pace among the 65 golfers who teed off.

Nadaraja Thangaraja was Sri Lanka’s leading performer, returning a three-over-par 73. The experienced Mithun Perera finished one stroke behind Thangaraja on 74, four over par. The experienced campaigner will also be looking for a much stronger second round to regain lost ground and improve his position.

Young Kumar Danushan had the toughest opening day of the Sri Lankan trio, finishing on 80, ten over par. Danushan struggled to find consistency throughout his round and faces a bigger challenge in the remaining rounds.

In the team event, Japan led the 21-team field, with Sri Lanka placed 15th at the end of day 1. (SJ)
