Sri Lanka Rugby shortlisted 23 players for the national Under-20 Sevens squad ahead of the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship 2026, which will be worked off in India next month.
The tournament assumes added importance for Sri Lanka’s emerging rugby talent, following an impressive runners-up finish to Hong Kong in last year’s competition. That performance underlined the potential of the country’s young sevens players and has raised expectations ahead of this year’s championship.
Head Coach Asela Deshapriya will have a huge responsibility on his shoulders to guide the young outfit as Sri Lanka look to go one step further and challenge for the title against the leading Under-20 teams in Asia.
The tournament will also provide an important platform for the next generation of national players to gain international exposure and experience. Wesley College skipper Kaizer Lye, who was initially included in the squad, has withdrawn due to his university commitments.
The shortlisted players are: Thatheera Dahamdiv, Mohamed Fawaz, Yuwan Pathirana, Ahad Sally, Minula Yadehige, Malshan Perera, Senuth Dinsara, Naham Hemachandra, Prathana Rodrigo, Ruvin Bowdaveen, Udan Bulathsinghalage, Hiruka Lindula, H M S T Dilshan, Pramuditha Narayan, Manusha Silva, Rasindu Bandara, Akeesha Pushpakumara, Avishka Hiran, Dilruwan Perera, Dinuka Perera, Nimantha Sandeepa, Udan Wijekoon and Thavisha Ekanayake.
