Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has appointed former national captain, Kandy SC and Trinity College Coach Fazil Marija as its Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Men’s Sevens team, replacing Peter Woods and his team, following a review of the team’s performance at the opening leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens in China.
The decision comes after Sri Lanka finished seventh in the opening leg, a result that fell below the expectations of SLR as the team continues its preparations for the Asian Games.
Marija will be supported by Nigel Ratwatte as Assistant Coach and Tharaka Alagama as Strength and Conditioning Coach, with the new coaching team taking charge with immediate effect for the Asian Games in Japan as well as the Asia Rugby second leg in Colombo.
The new coaching staff will commence their first session on 7 September.
