Hayleys Group ‘B’ and George Steuart registered wins, while Nations Trust Bank (NTB) and People’s Leasing PLC shared points, as the 7th CBL-Munchee-sponsored MCA Challengers League continued last weekend.
On Saturday at the FTZ Ground, Katunayake, in a match reduced to 45 overs per side, Hayleys ‘B’ restricted John Keells to 133 runs and reached the win needed in the 29th over with four wickets in hand. Pasan Gunathunga topped the John Keells scorecard with 33 runs, while Yuthika Silva was the pick of the bowlers with 3-13. Skipper Kalana Perera smashed 38 off 20 balls (2 fours, 4 sixes) to help Hayleys clinch the win.
At the Nalanda College Ground in a match reduced to 38 overs per side, George Steuart made it two in two by defeating English Tea Shop by six wickets. Skipper Ramesh Fernando scored an unbeaten 42 off 93 balls for English Tea Shop, while Risira Weerasuriya also scored an unbeaten 42 off 63 balls for the winners. Ayana Siriwardena’s 3-19 for George Steuart was the best bowling performance of the match.
