The Office of the Attorney General (AG) has filed all the disclosures and documents it intends to rely on for the trial of incarcerated former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who is accused of causing financial loss of GHS30 million to a public entity through a loan he obtained from the Ghana Export-Import Bank (Ghana EXIM Bank) in 2018.
Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, informed the court yesterday that the prosecution had filed one set of the disclosures on October 23, while the second batch was filed on October 26.
He said the prosecution was ready for the case management conference which paves the way for them to call their first witness.
The presiding judge, Justice Halima El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, however, noted that the court had not received copies of the disclosures filed.
Samuel Atta-Akyea, counsel for Chairman Wontumi, also pointed to the court that the defence only ‘fetched’ its copies of the disclosures yesterday, and pleaded with the court to give him some time to peruse the documents ‘because the liberty of the individual is at stake, I should be able to read through.’
The trial judge subsequently adjourned the case to November 2 and 3, 2026 for the case management.
