Four pedestrians killed as car overturns on Mityana-Mubende highway

Four pedestrians lost their lives on Thursday night along the Mityana-Mubende highway in Kassanda District after a speeding vehicle suffered a tyre burst, veered off the road, and hit them before overturning.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:00 PM at Kigoloba Village as the vehicle, a black Toyota Noah bearing registration number UBQ 511T, was traveling from Mityana toward Mubende.

Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi confirmed the incident, identifying three of the deceased as Patrick Kalyesubula, Moses, and Paul Tumuhiirwe. The identity of the fourth victim, an adult male, had not yet been established by press time.

According to preliminary findings by traffic investigators, the driver was travelling at high speed when one of the vehicle’s tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control and plow directly into the pedestrians along the roadside. The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash and remains at large as police intensify efforts to trace his whereabouts.

Following the accident, Kassanda District Traffic Officer ASP Moses Kasadha led a team of officers to the scene to conduct preliminary investigations, document evidence, and interview eyewitnesses.

The bodies of the victims were conveyed to Kiganda Health Centre IV postmortem examination, while the wreckage of the vehicle was towed to Kiganda Police Station as police inquiries into the matter continue.
