Police in Iriiri Sub-county, Moroto District, are hunting for a 35-year-old man who allegedly killed his two-year-old daughter and seriously injured his five-year-old son following a domestic dispute with his wife.
The incident occurred at around midnight on Sunday, September 20, in Kalopidinga Village, Namendera Parish, Iriiri Sub-county, according to police.
The suspect, identified as Daniel Logiro, a peasant and resident of the same village, allegedly had a domestic misunderstanding with his wife, Christine Mudong, 23, after asking what food she had prepared for the children.
Inspector of Police Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto Region police spokesperson, said the suspect became violent after his wife told him there was no food.
‘It is alleged that he turned violent and started assaulting her and later assaulted the children,’ Mr Longole said.
He said the woman fled to her mother’s home for safety.
‘When she returned at about 6:00am today in the company of her mother, she found her two-year-old daughter Anna Grace Adyaka dead and her five-year-old son Israel Lokut seriously injured,’ Mr Longole said.
The matter was reported to the area LC1 and subsequently at Iriiri Police Station.
Mr Longole said police had opened a murder case, visited and documented the scene, and recorded statements from witnesses.
He said a Police Form 3 was issued for the injured child, who is receiving treatment at Iriiri Health Centre III.
The body of the deceased child was also conveyed to the hospital for a postmortem examination.
Mr Longole said the suspect had fled the area and police were pursuing him.
‘We condemn acts of domestic violence and call upon the public to resolve misunderstandings amicably and report domestic violence early to police or local leaders,’ he said.
The incident comes days after a similar case was reported in Moroto District, where a man was accused of killing his children in Lokunoi Village, Lobuneit Parish, Rupa Sub-county, while their mother was away at a gold mine.
Police identified the suspect in that case as William Achila, 42.
