Not every opinion needs to be made public – Nampeera

What is the real reason you accepted to do this interview?

I remember you reaching out some time back about doing an interview, but for some reason, it did not happen. So, when you reached out again, I thought, ‘Okay, this time let’s make it happen.’ I was happy to finally sit down and have the conversation.

Do you know who Jessica Alupo is? And do not run to ChatGPT?

Yes, I do. Jessica Alupo is the Vice President of Uganda.

Do you think Ugandan TikTokers have completely misunderstood their level of fame?

No, I do not think so. TikTok is one of the most used apps in Uganda, and so many people wake up and go to sleep on TikTok. When someone consistently creates engaging content and starts getting millions of views and a lot of interaction, that recognition is not just in their heads. It actually happens on ground because people spend so much time on the platform and genuinely know these creators.

I think where someone can get carried away is when they start assuming that the recognition they receive online automatically translates to everywhere else. When people constantly interact with your content, approach you when they see you in public and greet you, naturally, you can start feeling like everyone knows you.

But the world is bigger than TikTok. I think humility is very important, and from time to time, people should remind themselves that content creation is a job, just like any other job. You should not be offended when someone does not know you, and you also should not get too carried away when people do. It is simply part of the job.

Which person in your life would you absolutely not trust with your phone unlocked?

Honestly, I think I can trust anyone in my life with my phone unlocked. Why are you in my life if I cannot trust you?

Wama Christine, oli wa side ki? When there is a war on X, are you reading silently, liking tweets, or entering the battlefield?

It honestly depends on the conversation. I will give my opinion on things I feel I have some knowledge about. If I do not know enough about a particular conversation, I do not see the need to give my opinion just for the sake of being part of it. But if it is something I have experienced, or going through, or something I genuinely understand, then I am comfortable sharing my perspective.

What is your biggest red flag in a man? And do not say ‘dishonesty.’ Twakowa. We want the real one.

A rude and impatient man. I really appreciate someone who knows how to communicate and can sit down and have an honest conversation, even when it is uncomfortable. But someone who is unnecessarily rude to people around him is an immediate red flag for me. I am always wondering, ‘Why do you feel the need to be rude?’

If you had to spend one month in Big Brother, which influencer would you absolutely not want as your roommate?

I am not naming names. I would love to leave that house with friendships, not enemies.

What is one thing you would never post on social media, even if someone paid you?

Anything that would intentionally hurt someone else’s feelings or make another person feel inferior. I do not support content that belittles people in any way. Even if someone paid me to create something that made another person feel small, I would not do it. I think you can create entertaining and successful content without tearing someone else down.

What is one Kampala dating experience that deserves its own Netflix documentary?

Honestly, Kampala dating as a whole deserves a Netflix series. The plot twists, the ‘just friends’, the surprise girlfriends and boyfriends, the mutual friends who somehow know everything…We have enough material for several seasons.

You have one rare opportunity for some afternoon tea with President Museveni. What is the topic of discussion?

I would probably ask him about Uganda’s future, especially opportunities for young people. I have met so many young Ugandans who are talented, ambitious and very passionate about what they do.

I would be interested in discussing how we can use what we already have, especially technology and social media, to create more opportunities for young people. Young people love the internet, they are already using social media, and digital platforms are only going to continue growing.

What is one popular Ugandan opinion you completely disagree with?

That once you become successful or start doing well, you must suddenly become a different person. I think you can grow, evolve and achieve beautiful things without losing your humility or forgetting where you came from.

Who is more dangerous: a woman with screenshots or a man with money?

A woman with screenshots. Money can finish, but screenshots have a very long memory.

Have you ever gone back to an ex knowing very well you should not?

I think most people have made at least one decision in love that they knew probably was not their best decision. I am human too. Sometimes your heart needs to learn a lesson that your brain already understood.

What is one opinion you hold that could get you cancelled in Uganda?

That not every opinion needs to be shared publicly. I know that sounds ironic coming from someone who makes a living on social media, but I genuinely believe you can disagree with someone, choose peace and continue with your life. Everything does not have to become a public debate.

And finally: Christine, if we gave you 30 seconds and told you to start one war on X right now, what would you tweet?

Can we please agree that you do not have to hate someone just because they are doing better than you? Let people win in peace. Let people succeed in their different sectors without constantly trying to tear them down simply because you do not understand how or why they are doing well.

Sometimes people are so quick to question or criticise someone’s success instead of simply allowing them to have their moment. And if you are angry about this ‘tweet’… I am sorry in advance.
