One person was shot dead on Wednesday night at around 2:00 am following an armed attack on Bugiye Sub-county Police Station in Kasese District, police said in a statement.
Police Spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, said in a statement that the deceased, who had not been identified by press time, was part of an estimated six people armed with pangas who attacked the police station and tried to disarm an officer who was on duty.
”The officer resisted and shot one of the attackers in the leg; however, he fled the scene but was discovered dead some meters away, Mr Rusoke said in a statement on the Uganda Police Force official X account.
Four people identified as Simon Irumba, Kiiza Abson, George Kadama and Lenaxi Baluku have since been arrested in connection with the incident.
By press time, efforts were ongoing to establish circumstances surrounding the attack and trace more suspects, as police remain alert and prepared for swift responses to similar attacks.
