Shock gripped residents of Kiteredde Village in Kayunga Town Council, Kayunga District, when a 42-year-old man allegedly took his own life after slitting his throat.
Area local leader, Ms Gertrude Nalumansi, identified the deceased as Richard Waguma, who was working as a taxi tout in Kayunga Taxi Park.
The shocking incident occurred on Monday at around 9 am. According to Ms Nalumansi, the deceased had spent some days looking depressed over unknown issues. He first went to his father’s home, which is located in the same village, and later left without saying a word.
“He looked puzzled, and we asked him what problem he had, but he didn’t respond,” the deceased’s father told this publication.
Later, Waguma walked to a neighbor’s home, identified as Mr Badru Basoga’s, where he found his elderly wife and her grandchildren having breakfast.
“He never said a word to them, but went straight to the kitchen, picked a hoe, and started hitting it on his head. Moments later, he picked a knife and slit his throat,” a resident who witnessed the incident said.
“He started bleeding profusely as he staggered in the compound and later collapsed at the doorway, from where he died,” the witness added.
Mr Basoga’s wife and grandchildren fled as they made an alarm, which drew area residents to the scene. However, they found Waguma already dead.
Police later visited the scene and allowed the family to proceed with burial arrangements.
