SC Villa moved back level on points with leaders KCCA following a 3-0 comprehensive win over URA at the Kadiba Stadium in the late Startimes Uganda Premier League game played under the lights at the Fufa Kadiba Stadium on Thursday evening.
The home comfort at the ground ended a two-game winless run for the Jogoos who lost to Maroons and drew with Vipers.
Here they benefited from self destructing opponents whose goalkeeper Chrispas Kusiima will not want to watch replays of his 23rd minute error that led to Villa’s opening goal.
Kusiima dropped a seemingly harmless Hassan Mubiru freekick into the path of Villa stand-in captain
Misi Ssemugera to force home the opener.
And while Fred Amaku struck the crossbar on the half hour mark, URA were largely second best thereafter.
That allowed Villa to double their lead two minutes into the second half when more slack defending saw Aslam Semakula to run onto a Frank Ssebuufu header to cut the ball back to Najib Yiga to forced home the second goal.
The game was then ended as a contest on 70 minutes when Frank Mulimi deputising for captain David Owori at right back intercepted a pass on the right before seeing his shot deflected by Arthur Kuggundu and past substitute goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekeba.
Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago then denied substitute Nelson Senkatuka to preserve his team’s cleansheet despite fielding a makeshift defense that was without Owori, the suspended Geoffrey Lubangkene and the injured Simon Semayange.
The result lifts Villa to 20 points while URA’s below par start to the season continued with what was a third loss in 10 games and stay 10th with just 11 points.
