3 injured, 4 motorcycles damaged as Farmers, Herders Clash in Niger

At least 3 people were injured in a clash between farmers and herders in Kataeregi community, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.

Sources told Daily Trust that the clash was over a farm land dispute between some farming communities and a herders settlement in the area.

The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.

He identified the injured victims as Tukur Liti, Ali Liti, and Alhaji Ibrahim.

According to him, some youths from Emitsowa, Emiyagi, Emiworo, Emisheshi and Kakanpangi communities attacked a herders settlement in Kakanpangi over alleged mischief and farmland boundary dispute.

He said the youths were led by one Moh’d Yamiyagi.

Abiodun said 4 motorcycles were also destroyed during the clash.

Abiodun said operatives of the Kataeregi Divisional Police Headquarters were mobilised to the scene and injured persons were taken to a hospital for treatment.

He said the intervention of the police helped restore normalcy to the area.

The police spokesperson added that the incident was still under investigation at the Kataeregi Division, assuring that further developments would be communicated.
