Gunmen have reportedly abducted Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, the village head of Aujarawar Alkali in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The traditional ruler was said to have been abducted when the assailants reportedly stormed the community on Thursday night.
Spokesperson to the Zannan Kano and the District Head of Jogana, Mahi Isma’il, have confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.
Isma’il described the abduction as a tragic development and a major blow to the peace and security of the area. According to the statement, the incident had heightened fear among residents, while families and community leaders expressed concern over the safety and whereabouts of the abducted village head.
Also reacting to the development, the District Head of Jogana, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ma’aji, appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the monarch and strengthen security in vulnerable rural communities.
Ma’aji said, ‘We appeal to security operatives to strengthen the protection of lives and property and do everything possible to ensure the safe return of our village head.’
The district head urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, while supporting security agencies through vigilance and cooperation.
He also called on members of the public to pray for the safe release of the village head.
He expressed hope that the abducted traditional ruler would soon reunite with his family and the people of Aujarawar Alkali.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said he would get back to our reporter after getting an update from the area.
