Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has urged politicians and citizens to play politics with respect and without bitterness as the 2027 general elections approach.
Sule made the call on Tuesday in Lafia during his address at the Nasarawa Carnival organized to mark the 30th anniversary of the creation of the state.
‘Elections are coming very soon. I know we cannot all be on the same page, but let us disagree with respect. Let us play democracy the way it’s supposed to be,’ the governor said.
‘Power comes only from God Almighty. No matter how we love anyone that we want for the power, it’s only God Almighty that gives that power.’
He urged the people not to listen to anyone interested in causing disagreement among them for political reasons.
‘Do not listen to anyone who is interested in causing disagreement between us when it comes to politics. We can disagree to agree, and we can agree to disagree. It is not a matter of life and death,’ he stated.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his economic reforms, which he said are making it possible for states to generate their own electricity, generate more revenue and provide their own security.
The governor warned that political crisis and lack of peace will scare investors away from the state, which he said is currently attracting investors in solid minerals, including the largest lithium processing plant in Africa.
