A 48-year-old man, Chukwudi Emenike, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, for allegedly being in possession of a bag containing weed suspected to be Indian hemp.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on September 12, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m. at Omu-Ekiti, within the Ilupeju-Ekiti Magistrate District.
Adeniyi alleged that Emenike was found in possession of a bag containing weed suspected to be Indian hemp.
He said the offence was punishable under Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act, LFN 2004.
Counsel to the defendant, Adunmi Olanipekun, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring that he would not jump bail.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, D.M. Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until October 14, 2026, for hearing.
