A Kano man, Mamuda Muhammad Kofar Waika, has been granted bail by an Upper Sharia Court in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State after pleading not guilty to allegedly defrauding a woman of N11 million by claiming to be jinn sent to assist her spiritually.
The case was heard by Judge Nasir Ahmad Muhammad.
At the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Zaharaddin Mustapha, applied for the charge to be read to the defendant. The court granted the application and directed its registrar, Aliyu Ali Fagge, to read the charge.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegation, following which his counsel applied for bail.
The court granted the application on the condition that the defendant provide land ownership documents valued at the N11 million he was alleged to have collected.
The case was initially brought by Tasiu Abdullahi Danbatta, the complainant’s brother, on behalf of his sister, Hajiya Fatima Ahmad, who resides in Saudi Arabia.
The defendant was alleged to have contacted the woman and claimed that he was a jinn sent to assist her spiritually.
He allegedly collected money from her through his bank account, claiming that the funds would be used to purchase perfume for the purported spiritual assignment.
