Police Bust Motorcycle Theft Syndicate In Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered six motorcycles believed to have been stolen.

The command’s spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the breakthrough followed a case of criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property involving the theft of a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.

He said the case was initially reported at the Sabon Gari Police Division before being transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation.

Kiyawa said operatives subsequently arrested Maharazu Mohammed, 22, and Hassan Abdullahi, 22, both of PRP Quarters, Kano.

‘In the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime and provided useful information which led to the arrest of additional six suspects, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to eight,’ he said.

He said sustained follow-up and search operations led to the recovery of six motorcycles suspected to have been stolen.

The recovered motorcycles comprised two Motor B motorcycles, three Haojue motorcycles and one Companion motorcycle.

According to Kiyawa, the operation was conducted under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, as part of efforts to strengthen proactive and intelligence-led policing, community partnership and the protection of lives and property.

He added that the command had handed over three previously recovered motor vehicles to their rightful owners after thorough verification and documentation.

Kiyawa said investigation was still ongoing to recover more stolen motorcycles and apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
