Thugs Attack ADC Campaign Train In Kogi, Vehicles Destroyed

Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs from a rival party have reportedly attacked the joint campaign team of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The attack reportedly targeted Musa Ahmadu, the ADC candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District, and Quincy Ahmed, the candidate for the Lokoja/Koton-Karfe Federal Constituency.

Witnesses said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Gegu-Beki, near Koton-Karfe, the headquarters of Kogi Local Government Area, during a joint voter-mobilization outing by both candidates.

The assailants, who turned up in large numbers, set upon the campaign convoy, destroying several vehicles and campaign materials.

While no fatalities were reported, several party members sustained varying degrees of injuries during the violent disruption.

The incident has triggered heightened political tension along the Koton-Karfe corridor, particularly as the ADC senatorial candidate-a former Secretary to the Kogi State Government-is an indigene of the area.

Reacting to the incident, the Kogi State Chairman of the ADC, Tom Zakari, strongly condemned the attack, describing the perpetrators as masked political sympathizers acting on the orders of a prominent rival politician in the locality.

‘We condemn the attack on the ADC Kogi West senatorial candidate and Lokoja Federal Constituency candidate, during which their campaign vehicles and materials were destroyed on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, at Gegu-Beki in Koton-Karfe LGA,’ Zakari stated.

Recalling a similar attack on ADC supporters in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area, Zakari announced that the party would pursue legal avenues to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

He appealed to the Kogi State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to intervene promptly and curb political violence in the state.

He also urged ADC supporters across Kogi West, especially in Koton-Karfe, to remain calm and refrain from retaliatory actions.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, had not responded to calls or text messages requesting official comment on the incident.
